My opinion on his future at the club has vacillated greatly in 2011.

I'm interested to hear the thoughts of WC's fans regarding Brad and his future at the club.

It's coming close to decision time. Four years is long enough to know whether a guy has it. (Whatever it is you're looking for) and it's my understanding that Ebert's contract expires this season and we have yet to offer an extension. Note other 2007 draftees, Masten and Selwood, signed contract extensions last season.

With Port Power's list in it's current state and their known love for all things Ebert, now would be the ideal time to deal Ebert if any lingering doubts persist. On the flip side, I could easily see him wanting to leave if some scenarios play out. (Andrew Strijk injecting EPO comes to mind).

Internally, my believe is Woosha loves him and the club rate his character that highly, the chances of him actually being traded are slim to none.

So, at this point, where do you stand on Brad Ebert?

possibly a better option than masten - ebert is more flexible which enables him to play different roles

ie ebert can play hb throught to hf masten has proved he cannot

Thats funny. I would have thought you people would have learned to stop calling for everyones head.

I seems to remember last year everyone calling for us to get rid of cox, kerr, embley, priddis,a selwood, worsfold

Half a year later, such a statement would seem ridiculous. Eberts fine yo. Definitely servicable.

I thought Ebert was better last year, if I remember correctly he generally had a lot more possies which can be expected seeing as he plays HFF now, it was just his disposal efficiency.

Why not try him this week with a full game in the middle, might show something. Give Priddis a rest, put Stevens in his original spot, and Ebert and Shuey can change positions, ever though Shuey goes to the forward line now it's only for a quarter. Go the full game and see how it goes, nothing to lose. Doesn't work switch it back

No thanks

Pearce is a front running type player and doesnt like getting his hands dirty..

My thoughts aswell, however he blatantly has his positive points, we are in good form and considering the age of some of our players such as Cox and Embley we need to try and get in the premiership window in the next 2 years max.

Pearce could be out fast outside player, like Dale Thomas, if I remember correctly he also has good ball use which is absolutely needed. If we could get Ebert and a 2nd rounder for Pearce, do it. Unless we need the picks for one of the young kids were looking at.

Port are interested and have said recently they wish to talk to any SA that is a chance to return . I think Port is a good chance for a trade , I just dont think we will trade as Ebert is a good build for AFL , well liked and has shown improvement this season plus his Dad works for West Coast in a SA recruiting role :)

Ive never ever really "liked him" I don't really rate mids who are slow inagile and can't kick. I've wanted him traded for a while. Not much is changed the only difference is that his value is lower than last year.

Scooter, stevens, ebert are all pretty slow without amazing footskills a future premiership midfield would struggle to play them all which is a waste because i think even ebert will be AFL quality.
Scooter could play as our tagger so is safe
Stevens i think could still develop into a great inside mid with heart like a boyd, hayes, priddis.

and Ebert... There's just no room in the midfield his best shot is the HFF which he hasn't really done well at especially not for a 4th year player.

Ive finally just about given hope up on swift, trade him and ebert whilst we still can.
Masten i still have hope four but would trade him if a suitable deal came up or we had a shot at one of the GWS prelist players

the coaching staff see something in him, that's for sure.

he started the year fine, but he has been a non-factor in the last month or so.

i dont think we'll voluntarily trade him unless someone offers a 1st rounder (which won't happen). if he wants to leave, i'd be happy with a second rounder.

hopefully he steps up his game, the team is lifting and he's being left behind at the moment. he's lucky that we favour him over Stevens/Swift who have been performing well in the WAFL.

Ahh...When?

After watching the game from Saturday again, something struck me about Ebo which I think is a pretty common theme. He's always hard at it, a pretty good tackler, and a good overhead mark, but every game without fail, he will do something so unbelievably spuddish, that that error is all you remember.

Many times he probably has serviceable games, but will make two royal ****-ups, and ruin the rest of his work.

To answer the question, I'd like to see him gone. I think Masto is a much better footballer than him, and I just don't think he offers enough to be a walk up start almost every week. Let's see what we can get for him.

Have never been a fan.

But I don't think we'll get much for him. He's worth holding onto for another couple of years int he absence of a decent trade offer. He could develop into a handy player around 15th-18th best in the team.

I think he does get preferential treatment though, and I'm a bit concerned that he's keeping better players in the WAFL.

When you were'nt looking .

Ebert can stand up in tackles , good mark and has looked quite dangerous as a marking forward early in the season . With the return of Lecras , Ebert has had less opportunities . Pretty sure the Club will stick with him but trade if both parties agree .

These have always been his strengths but i havnt seen him come on in any way this year. Hell also be slowish and his kicking is far from fantastic. We can only play him half forward but hes not doing that at all well enough currently. But your right, we wont trade him unless he requests it...Which will happen if we dont play him

In answer to your thread title, yes I still like him. I reckon he was harshly treated last year. His disposal was ordinary at times, but watching him play he asked to do too much for a player of his experience. He'd absolutely bust his gut to make position, and then by the time he got the ball he was to buggered and made the wrong decision and/or made a disposal error.

His positives are that he works hard, he can take a grab, his kicking technique is OK (so that can be sorted out), his reading of the play is good, can break a tackle, and he's very prepared to get involved in the play.

He'll be good, and I'd like to keep him.

I personally think it's horrible, and the amount of kicks he messes up under no pressure, even at WAFL level, testify to that.

You're probably right that it can be sorted out but it has shown no improvement since he was drafted and may have even become worse.

For the record, I don't really stand on either side of the fence here. I think at the very least he needs a long spell in the WAFL and some long afternoons with Kempy working on his kicking technique before we'll know.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of playing a guy to increase his trade value and I don't think the coaches are either, so if he's playing in our side, he needs to be there on merit. Right now he's probably not.

I never stopped liking him and have been surprised by all the hate for him. He does some very good things, some good things and a few crap things every game. All people seem to focus on is the crap things though. His is strong overhead, a decent tackler, always gives his all and generally has OK disposal efficiency, but he commits a few clangers and everyone thinks he is worth a second rounder at best. In a weak as piss draft mind you.

I do enjoy many people on here thinking they know more or are smarter than the coaches though and know who should and should not be in the side. I am glad none of those people are in charge otherwise we would not be in the great position we are in at the halfway mark of the season. :thumbsu:

Liking him as a HFF, and think he's a good inside mid, but needs to fix his kicking technique and balance when kicking on the run. Drops the ball from quite high and this adds to his issues whn kicking on the run where he seems to keep his legs too close together. Definitely worth more than a second round pick.
