No good; no good, we’re no good at all;
it wasn’t the Cats or Kardinnia Park.
We lack structure, skill, any sign of spark;
it’s not Neil Craig. It’s not Trigg. This gall
is sour, flat, thin rain; it’s an empty cart
that will take us nowhere; it has to fall.

I’ve changed my mind. I thought he was secure.
Neil Craig must step down. The Board is leaking;
Craig will not be there next year, that’s for sure.
Why wait, now? That’s their recent thinking.
They dumped Gary Ayres for Craig’s early trial;
Now they’ll cut him before he loses his gummy smile.

Here’s the question for the club. Will we trade up
with a brand new coach? We had sludge, mistakes,
and then a madman who delivered two mad cups
but left the club in freefall. Ayres applied the brakes.
Craig has been no better than Ayres but no worse;
He changed the list and suffered an injury curse.

Or will we trade down? Take Mark Bickley for the season
as an acting coach – test his steel, and test his reason?
And then invite Simon Goodwin to throw his hat in the ring
to come home and, with Bickley, discover if they can sing?

GO YOU CROW BOYS
The biggest poetic feel for this to me is the stanza's get wider and wider as you go on...

The sheer volume of questions lacking concrete answers and the building frustration growing and growing perfectly captured ;)

Amazing work once again, and as always, John.

Captured the disappointment of this year and the hope for the next perfectly.

I would whole-heartedly endorse you as the first ever poet laureate of the Adelaide Football Club.

Is it just me, or is giving someone love just because they wrote an amateur poem a bit unnecessary?

Maybe I'm not steeped in the history of this board, but that just seems like a cringeworthy attention grab to me. Sorry JohnK, just being honest.

well, your post seems like a cringeworthy attention grab to me. maybe you're projecting your own feelings onto someone else? wouldn't be the first time its happened around here. ;)

John's contributions are welcome because he adds something to the debate.

what does your post add? nothing.

Well, your opinion is your opinion but you may find it's in the minority. JohnK's contribution to the Neil Craig debate was structured and thought out and summed it up perfectly. Most of the debate on here has long since descended into veiled personal insults and various levels of questioning the allegiance of others to the club.

Also, I'd hardly describe it as amateur. Perhaps once you have steeped yourself in the history of the board a little more you'll be in a better position to evaluate.

I would like to give this a go.....if I may (and this may seem very amatuerish compared to JohnK)... ;)

Unsettling times bring forth fear
In haste we make decisions to steer;
The goal for fans is to win a game,
although for the club it may not be the same.

The cry from the crowd is to call for a head!
How dare we play with such inebt!
The past means little, we want a win now
Take Craig away, and replace him somehow

But lets not try for someone with proven success
Lets aim for an old "Crow", oh my what a mess!
Surely our club deserves at the least
Someone who can help us unleash the beast.

I would like to say, and this is from Bov
We need also learn to deal with tough love
There are seasons when all clubs play like schit
But my God this is life, now go deal with it

The cycle must turn and I know it is tough
And I understand how enough is enough
But take a step back and take a deep breath
Believe that the club will always do its best

The club does not want to lose any game
So if Craig was so bad, what do they gain?
There is more to this than what the fans see
I have to put my faith in the Crows hierachy.

I say wait at least till the end of the year.
Lets see if the boys can get into gear.
Craig has invested so much for this club
It would be wrong to call in a sub

Um...that is it. I have just ran out of rhyming words.....and I have found I am not very good at all this. I want to apologise for excluding such great words such as wine, beer, and girls. :D

Well done, Boyo.

You get :footy::footy: for having a go.
You get another :footy: for not using the word chardonnay and you'd get another :footy: if you could eliminate some of the sing-song from the metre.

Now it's your turn, PileDriver Waltz. Show us how it's done.

piledriver waltz uses capital letters at the start of sentences, so if he is crow-mo, he's doing a bloody good job of completely changing his posting style...

WTF...poetry??

hey let me give this a go.

The boy stood on the burning deck
he barracked for the crows
he asked 'when will we win a game?'
the answer is **** knows!

So? woddya reckon?? cool or what!?

8-6-8-6 syllable count: .:footy::footy::footy:
ContentL :footy:

We are still waiting for PileDriver's sonnet which he has promised me in a private message.

His sonnet will consist of 14 lines, each line containing ten syllables and written in iambic pentameter, in which a pattern of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable is repeated five times. The rhyme scheme in PileDriver's sonnet will be a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, g-g; the last two lines will be a rhyming couplet.

"This isn't easy," he wrote to me. "It takes some time to get it right."

I think you've had enough time, PDW. It's time to deliver.

BTW, Piledriver. I don't owe you $22.35 at all. You said that it was your turn to pay. And it was.
