Matts 2011 Mock Draft

Enjoy!!!

#1 – GWS Giants – Stephen Coniglio – Height: 182cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 15/12/93
Position: Rounded, goal-kicking mid.
Recruited from: Swan Districts (WA)
Why: Even though I think Patton is probably ahead of Coniglio in the race for the #1 pick, giving the pressure that comes with the pick number to a midfielder, and one likely to have an instant impact, over a key position forward that may take a couple of seasons to flourish is a smart move. As you would expect of a top 2 pick Coniglio doesn’t have any real weaknesses and as he has shown with Swan Districts, particularly last season as a 16 year old, is capable of playing forward with success.
Range: 1-2

#2 – GWS Giants – Jonathan Patton – Height: 197cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB: 20/04/93
Position: Power forward.
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges (VIC)
Why: Patton is a man mountain, for such a big man his movement and awareness is very good. His main strength comes from his hands, but it his ability to find teammates, getting others involved as well as his cleanness below his knees that is amazing for a man of his size. Expect to see him dominating the competition in 5 years time.
Range: 1-2

#3 – GWS Giants– Chad Wingard – Height: 181cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 29/09/93
Position: Rounded midfielder.
Recruited from: Sturt FC (SA)
Why: Dom Tyson seems to be fashionable for #3 of late but he doesn’t have the shear potential that Wingard has. If he reaches his potential, Wingard will be an elite midfielder capable of winning his own ball as well as using it effectively, all this while weaving his way through traffic with an uncanny evasiveness. Will perhaps take a little time and may start his career operating of half-back but in time, should be a great footballer.
Range: 3-6

#4 – GWS – Dom Tyson – Height: 186cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 08/06/93
Position: Rounded midfielder.
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers (VIC)
Why: For all the talk of a shallow draft, the top few prospects are still likely to become elite footballers, and that should also be the case with Dom Tyson. He will probably start his career as an outside mid, but will increase his inside work to become a well rounded footballer. Good footskills, great workrate, perhaps he could get forward a bit more to influence the scoreboard.
Range: 3-6

#5 – GWS Giants – Billy Longer – Height: 202cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB: 12/05/93
Position: Ruckman.
Recruited from: Northern Knights (VIC)
Why: The Giants may consider using this pick on Buntine or Hoskin-Elliott and hope Longer slides to 7, but will play it safe and pick Longer because they NEED another ruck. At the moment the Giants have Giles as their no.1 and will likely recruit Dena Brogan for 2012 but after that their only ruckman on the list is Andrew Phillips who at this stage is reasonably speculative. Having said that, they will not be paying overs, as Longer is the best ruckman available in the draft. He has very good versatility for a big man and should develop into a 10 year player for the Giants.
Range: 4-7

#6 – Port Adelaide Power – Will Hoskin-Elliott – Height: 182cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 02/09/93
Position: Loping wingman.
Recruited from: Western Jets (VIC)
Why: Even if Longer were available Port would likely prefer Hoskin-Elliott anyway. Capable of being a ‘70m player’, carrying the ball 15 and kicking it 55, Hoskin-Elliott is a real line breaker and further enhanced his reputation at the draft combine, showing his elite endurance. Couple this with great speed and his athletic abilities are something AFL clubs are always searching for.
Range: 4-7

#7 – GWS Giants – Matthew Buntine – Height: 188cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 19/10/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays (VIC)
Why: The Giants can be very happy with the 17 year olds that they already have at the club and even though they already have a few defenders they will be happy to add Buntine to their list. With the bonus of being ready to play football immediately, Buntine also makes great decisions, reads the play extremely well, has very good footskills and shows great leadership characteristics, all the things to look for in a medium defender.
Range: 4-8

#8 – Brisbane Lions – Elliot Kavanagh – Height: 187cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 19/05/93
Position: Balanced mid.
Recruited from: Western Jets (VIC)
Why: Had an injury interrupted season where he was unable to play for Metro at the champs to boost his ranking. Kavanagh could be one of the real top liners at this draft and potentially an extremely good AFL player. Perfect type for the Giants, with a player with a little risk versus potentially great reward. Has good footskills, is good above his head for his size and makes smart decisions. If he slides, expect this PEGS boy to be snapped up by Essendon at 19.

#9 – GWS – Toby Greene – Height: 180cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 25/09/93
Position: Inside mid.
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers (VIC)
Why: Very good clearance player who also has good footskills. Workrate is second to none and although at times doesn’t look the most fashionable player, keeps running all day. Has a bit of mongrel in him and likes to get in the face of opponents. Tough to split Greene and Taylor Adams.
Range: 8-20

Range: 7-19

#10 – GWS Giants – Liam Sumner – Height: 182cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 16/08/93
Position: Winger.
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons (VIC)
Why: Has a heap of potential. At the moment is a bit inconsistent, born from relying on his teammates to feed him the ball; this will come from experience as well as putting on some size so he can win his own ball. Very good kicking skills and likes to run with the ball. Also is extremely quick.
Range: 7-14

#11 – GWS Giants – Devon Smith – Height: 175cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 20/04/93
Position: Small forward.
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons (VIC)
Why: Kevin Sheehan likes to say he is like ‘a bee in a bottle’, which is a good description. Only a midget but is very quick and tackles ferociously. I imagine due to his size he will play largely as a small forward in the AFL and perhaps push into the midfield later on. Certainly know how to kick goals, with a highlight performance of 27 disposals and 6 goals against NT in the champs. One of my personal favourites.
Range: 7-25

#16 – Fremantle Dockers – Shane Kersten – Height: 190cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 15/03/93
Position: Key forward.
Recruited from: South Fremantle (WA)
Why: The Dockers could use a Pav replacement and have plenty of good young mids coming through. Although key forward may not be their most pressing need, Kersten is an extremely good selection. Reminds me a bit of Jack Darling, he applies very good pressure for a big man and although is a little undersized uses his body very well in terms of positioning. Like Darling, Kersten is ready to play almost straight away.
Range: 16-30

#13 – GWS Giants – Daniel Markworth – Height: 189cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 03/04/92
Position: Medium forward.
Recruited from: Calder Cannons (VIC)
Why: Has come from the clouds to be a genuine first round choice. Is extremely quick and just has a poise about him that you only see from real class acts. Perhaps doesn’t have the runs on the board that some other draftees have but his room for improvement is large. Would be an ideal choice for the Giants.
Range: 13-25

#14 – GWS Giants – Brandon Ellis – Height: 181cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 03/08/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Calder Cannons (VIC)
Why: Having already selected a heap of classy mids, Ellis is a great choice for the Giants, importantly he can come into a side immediately and perform due to his AFL ready body. Like most of the better prospects he has good footskills and makes good decisions.
Range: 11-22

#15 – Richmond – Taylor Adams – Height: 181cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 20/09/93
Position: Goalkicking inside mid.
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons (VIC)
Why: Adams is someone who I rate higher than most and he would be very deserving of a top 10 pick. Has extremely clean hands and his vision, particularly with the handball is superb. Perhaps may start his career forward but will develop into a clearance machine, capable of pushing forward and kicking goals. He also has good footskills, and although I didn’t hear much about him at the combine, assuming he didn’t test too badly for the 20m sprint his name should be called out pretty early.
Range: 7-19

#16 – Fremantle – Sam Frost – Height: 193cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 28/08/93
Position: Tall utility.
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons (VIC)
Why: Can play at both ends he has a huge amount of potential. Extremely quick for a big man, I imagine he will probably settle down back, using his athleticism to spoil forwards. Would take a bit of time, but could be worth the wait.
Range: 13-32

#17 – Western Bulldogs – Adam Tomlinson – Height: 192cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 10/08/93
Position: Tall defender.
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers (VIC)
Why: The Dogs could use a defender and Tomlinson is a good prospect. Very athletically gifted for a big man, showed that at the draft combine where he was top 10 in both endurance events. Rebounds well and makes good decisions coming out of defence.
Range: 13-37

#18 – North Melbourne – Brad McKenzie – Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 29/05/93
Position: Flanker.
Recruited from: Sturt FC (SA)
Why: North have accrued some extremely good inside mid talent, they don’t have many holes but could use an outside receiver that uses the ball well. Can play half-back, wing or half-forward, his kicking is his main strength and can cover 60m relatively easily. Also takes a good grab.
Range: 10-20

#19 – Essendon – Mitch Grigg – Height: 181cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 02/01/93
Position: Inside mid.
Recruited from: Norwood (SA)
Why: Has questions over his pace, that is why he has fallen this far. Grigg ran a 3.19sec for the 20m sprint which is not ideal but is also not fatal. His kicking is very good for both distance and accuracy and helps to calm any fears over speed. I don’t think it is a major problem though if he is utilised correctly. He is also a very dedicated kid and under a sprint coach, I’m sure it could be improved over time. If he had good pace would have been guaranteed top 10. Tackles very well and could play straight away.
Range: 12-28

#20 – Fremantle Dockers – Shane Nelson – Height: 179cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 11/05/93
Position: Balanced mid.
Recruited from: West Perth (WA)
Why: Best available small. Only small but is very good in the contests, also has the ability to run outside and use it well which is important, as shown by his top performance in the kicking test at the combine. Not sure if he will be able to play inside at AFL level, particularly early, due to his size so it is good he has other strings to his bow to be able to perform at AFL level.
Range: 16-23

#21 – Sydney Swans - Tom Mitchell F/S – Height: 180cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 31/05/93
Position: Inside mid.
Recruited from: Claremont (WA)
Why: I’m fairly confident that I have this one right. Sydney can be pretty happy with Mitchell, likely to have been top 10 if open to all clubs; he is very good at the clearances and tackling. Has reasonable pace and can also use the ball well which is important to see. Likely to be able to have an impact next season.
Range: 21

#22 – Carlton Blues – Sam Docherty – Height: 183cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 17/10/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Gippsland Power (VIC)
Why: Season of very good performances interrupted by injury. Came into the Vic Country team mid way through the champs and dominated, named BOG in his first game. Positions himself very well for a defender and knows when to run off his opponent. Uses his run and carry to great effect whilst remaining tidy defensively. If he can get his body right, he could be a star.
Range: 13-24

#23 – West Coast Eagles – Jordan Lockyer – Height: 190cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 15/06/93
Position: Tall utility.
Recruited from: West Perth (WA)
Why: Good player with good scope for improvement. Can play forward or back and is possibly best suited to a defensive role. A little undersized but uses his body to position himself well and reads the play well to compensate for this. Equal second in the kicking test at the combine, so clearly has good footskills on both sides of his body, a somewhat unique skill for a tall.
Range: 16-26

#24 – Gold Coast Suns – Fraser McInnes – Height: 194cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 19/07/93
Position: Key position player.
Recruited from: Perth (WA)
Why: Although McInnes can also play forward, I think he will eventually settle down back and will ad to the Suns’ key defensive stocks. Mobile for a man of his size, he has had some injury problems but if he can get this right should have a solid career.
Range: 16-27

#25 – St. Kilda Saints – Alex Forster – Height: 189cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 14/07/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Norwood (SA)
Why: Good player who could perform next season if given the chance. Has already played well at senior level in the SANFL. Reads the play extremely well and makes good decisions as evidenced by his 84.4% disposal efficiency at the U18 champs. Could push into the midfield when he develops in the AFL.
Range: 13-30

#26 – Richmond – Hayden Crozier – Height: 184cm, Weight: 68kg, DOB: 24/12/93
Position: Medium forward.
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges (VIC)
Why: Best available. He is well known for ‘that mark’ but he has a lot of tricks. Will likely take some time due to his current size but potential is large. Very quick and agile, he obviously has a great vertical leap and needs to work on his endurance but should eventually push into the midfield and could be a real game breaker.
Range: 7-20

#27 – Adelaide Crows – Josh Waldhunter – Height: 184cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 15/03/93
Position: Inside mid.
Recruited from: Central Districts (SA)
Why: Another good SA boy, has ferocious attack on the ball, very good tackler. Speed is also pretty good. Gets pretty good distance to his kicking. Doesn’t rack up huge numbers, but tries hard and has a desire to get better.
Range: 17-37

#28 – West Coast Eagles – Nick Haynes – Height: 191cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 18/05/92
Position: Tall midfielder.
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays (VIC)
Why: Overage player who has come a long way this season. Is a bit of a bolter who is now in first round calculations. Good scope for improvement, as you would expect from a midfielder of his size, takes a good mark, and covers good ground with long strides. Also has the ability to play forward.
Range: 13-end of second round

#29 – Fremantle Dockers – Michael Talia – Height: 193cm, Weight: 87kg, DOB: 11/02/93
Position: Tall defender.
Recruited from: Calder Cannons (VIC)
Why: One of the best key defenders in the draft. Reads the play very well and is able to zone off his opponent in order to cut off opposition attacks. Like his brother, Michael needs to work on his kicking, but should be able to have a solid career down the track.
Range: 15-39

#30 – Brisbane Lions – Todd Elton – Height: 197cm, Weight: 87kg, DOB: 29/04/93
Position: Key forward, who can pinch hit in the ruck
Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers (VIC)
Why: Bit of a slider due to some inconsistent performances, he could still be a first rounder. Takes a strong mark but can go through large periods where he doesn’t get anywhere near it. Would take some time and should be able to start performing after the retirement of Jonathan Brown to fill a key forward post and also support Berger in the ruck.
Range: 13-34

#31 – Essendon Bombers – Sam Kerridge – Height: 188cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 26/04/93
Position: Balanced mid.
Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers (VIC)
Why: Best mid available. Good all-round mid who can win his own ball and use it well. Pushes forward and can kick goals through strong marking. Played some games in the VFL with the Bendigo Bombers and performed very well, including the elimination final where he was named in the best players in a high pressure environment. Another of my favourites. With selections at 19 and 31 he is a strong chance to end up a bomber.
Range: 19-31

#32 – Geelong Cats – Jackson Paine – Height: 194cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 21/06/93
Position: Key forward.
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons (VIC)
Why: Paine has very good hands and is a good size for a key forward. Once he bulks out will be able to break packs with his strong attack on the marking contest. Should develop into a good forward prospect for the Cats.
Range: 13-2nd round

#33 – Hawthorn Hawks – Marley Williams – Height: 181cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 22/07/93
Position: Half-forward.
Recruited from: Claremont (WA)
Why: Really struggling to think of a type of player the Hawks need. Can play immediately and has a great peg, able to cover 55m with good accuracy. Also does the team things well and will be able to improve the Suns forward press, something they are in desperate need of.
Range: 2nd -3rd round.

#34 – Geelong Cats – Andrew Boseley – Height: 194cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 04/09/92
Position: Key defender.
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons (VIC)
Why: Another overage player who has improved dramatically. The redhead is one of the few defenders to get the better of Patton this year, and uses his good closing speed to spoil opposition forwards. Is sound defensively but doesn’t give a heap the other way, he is a good size and should benefit and learn quickly from the presence of the Cats key backs.
Range: 2nd round

#35 – St. Kilda Saints – Brody Mihocek – Height: 191cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 04/02/93
Position: Tall utility.
Recruited from: Burnie (TAS)
Why: Mihocek is a Tasmanian whose father played 14 games for the Bombers. Reads the play very well and positions himself very effectively down back. Can also play forward and if he was a few centimetres taller he would be in first round calculations.
Range: 2nd round

#36 – Melbourne Demons – Tom Sheridan – Height: 185cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 28/10/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: Calder Cannons (VIC)
Why: Tested well at the combine, and those results could see him rise further in the draft rankings. Has very good endurance and if he can put a bit of weight on in the off-season could push for selection next season. Is a bit of an unassuming type and will Bolster the Demons’ midfield depth.
Range: 2nd round

#37 – St. Kilda Saints – Myles Bolger – Height: 201cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 25/03/93
Position: Ruckman
Recruited from: South Fremantle (WA)
Why: The second best ruck in the draft, the Saints really only have McEvoy now and could use another ruck prospect. Uses his body extremely well to win taps and throws his weight around. Once he bulks out a bit will be able to outmuscle smaller ruckmen something McEvoy will never do, he does however need to work on his output around the ground.
Range: 15- end of second round.

#38 – Hawthorn Hawks – Clay Smith – Height: 180cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 11/05/93
Position: mid/forward.
Recruited from: Gippsland Power (VIC)
Why: Has a lot of strong attributes. His attack on the ball is very good, can kick goals for a midfielder and is a good tackler. The knock on him is his ball drop, it is a bit suspect and could well be an achilles heel at AFL level. If he can work through this though he will be a good AFL player.
Range: 2nd round.

#39 – Western Bulldogs – Julian Dobosz – Height: 193cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 17/11/92
Position: Key forward.
Recruited from: North Hobart (TAS)
Why: Has great upside. Is coming from a fair way back, but has significantly improved this season. Takes a strong grab, is good athletically but needs to work on his defensive pressure. They talk about a shallow draft but the first two rounds should still provide some good picks and Dobosz is one of those.
Range: 22-39

#40 – North Melbourne – Josh Tynan – Height: 185cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 06/11/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Gippsland Power (VIC)
Why: Is very good above his head and plays tall than he actually is. Can actually play on the third tall and has a good vertical leap to spoil the taller players. Reads the play well and can zone off his man to rebound or help out a teammate.
Range: 2nd -3rd round

#41 – Adelaide Crows – Cam Ellis-Yolmen – Height: 191cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 28/01/93
Position: Tall midfielder.
Recruited from: Woodville West-Torrens (SA)
Why: Best available SA boy. Ellis-Yolmen is a midfielder with great size that comes ready to play from round 1 next year. Already a good size he is good inside and uses his height with strong hands. Difficult to tell where he will end up in the draft but he is one that has reasonable upside.
Range: 2nd- 3rd round

#42 – St. Kilda Saints – Elliot Yeo – Height: 188cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 01/10/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: East Fremantle (WA)
Why: Topped the agility testing and the stand jump testing at the combine so is quite gifted athletically. Has good speed and has performed strongly at Colts level in WA. Will probably start his career on the wing. The saints showed a tendency to bring in more athletic types in tradeweek and this will continue in the drafts.
Range: 38 – rookie.

#43 – Sydney Swans – Henry Schade – Height: 194cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 08/10/93
Position: Key defender.
Recruited from: North Hobart (TAS)
Why: Has really impressed after breaking into the North Hobart senior team this season. Has the advantage of playing against men in the lead up. Provides very good rebound for a big man. Has good distance to his kicking and has been used as a bit of an outlet in junior football.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#44 – Carlton Blues – Seb Ross – Height: 187cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 07/05/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels (VIC)
Why: Strong workrate, also a good size for a midfielder, Ross is the cousin of Jobe Watson. Neat left foot and can play forward so versatility is also good.
Range: 2nd -3rd round

#45 – Port Adelaide Power – Steve Rusca – Height: 182cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 24/07/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: Central Districts (SA)
Why: Is a strong, hard working midfielder that gives 100% all game. Can also play at half back and that is where he may start his career but will eventually move into the midfield. Also a good tackler and whilst he doesn’t rack up huge numbers he normally uses it well.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#46– Adelaide Crows – Jordan Kelly – Height: 191cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 27/06/93
Position: Tall defender.
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays (VIC)
Why: Is quite talented and is a good addition to the young Crows backline. Kelly is good one on one and would be much higher if he were a couple of centimetres taller. Gets good distance to his kick and provides rebound for a tall.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#47 – Brisbane Lions – Ben Brown – Height: 198cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 20/11/92
Position: Ruckman/Foward.
Recruited from: Glenorchy (TAS)
Why: Lions should draft another ruck/Foward somewhere in one of the drafts and Brown at this stage represents a solid pick. Brown is another Tasmanian and an overage player. Has a great leap and moves around the ground well for a big man.
Range: 3rd round – rookie.

#48 – Geelong Cats – Jack Newnes – Height: 185cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 28/10/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: Northern Knights (VIC)
Why: I rate Newnes higher than most and wouldn’t be surprised to see him actually taken before this pick in the actual draft. Gives 110% every game, is very versatile and his hands in close are very good. I think the slight knock on him was his pace wasn’t very good so it would be interesting to see his 20m sprint times from the combine.
Range: 2nd -3rd round

#49– Western Bulldogs – Cam Eardley – Height: 182cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 24/06/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: East Fremantle (WA)
Why: Good competitor that will probably never be a star player but will probably become a solid player at AFL level. Can play as a defensive midfielder or at half-back he likes to tackle and is a very team oriented player.
Range: 2nd – 4th round

#50 – Collingwood Magpies– Michael Bussey – Height: 196cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 05/07/93
Position: Key forward.
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges (VIC)
Why: Tall key forward who can take a strong mark. Very highly rated last year but has slid a bit this season largely due to a disappointing champs. Can pinch hit in the ruck and can also play down back so versatility is one of his strengths.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#51 – Port Adelaide – Matthew Jacquier – Height: 187cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 29/03/93
Position: Medium forward.
Recruited from: Woodville West-Torrens (SA)
Why: Good SA boy that was very highly rated last year before having a slightly disappointing season. Is a bit of a livewire up forward and has a bit of x-factor. Is a good fit for the Power.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#52– Melbourne Demons – Jimmy Webster – Height: 187cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 28/06/93
Position: Winger.
Recruited from: Glenorchy (TAS)
Why: The Demons should look toward some quicker mids to go with their developing midfield and Webster is such a selection. Is very quick and could take some time but is a good risk/reward scenario as his athletic capabilities and kicking are AFL standard.
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#53 – Hawthorn Hawks – Brad Hill – Height: 178cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 09/07/93
Position: Winger.
Recruited from: West Perth (WA)
Why: Is a bit hard to place due to his excellent performances at the draft combine. Will take a while, and won’t be able to have the immediate impact Stephen did, but does have some potential and clearly elite athletic capabilities.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#54 – Melbourne Demons – Jackson Merrett – Height: 187cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 27/02/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons (VIC)
Why: Nice third round selection for the Demons. Merrett is a balanced midfielder who provides good run. Has good footskills and makes good decisions.
Range: 2nd – 3rd round

#55– Richmond Tigers – Pass

#56- GWS Giants – Fletcher Roberts – Height: 197cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 03/06/93
Position: Key forward.
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons (VIC)
Why: Stocks rose markedly after a great performance in the TAC cup grand final. Will develop into a really big unit. Will probably take a while but long term could add to the Giants’ list of really strong young talent.
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#57 – Western Bulldogs – Tom Downie
An athletic ruckman, who moves around the ground well, He is a project.
I have not seen much of him but I am told he is very impressive.
Range 2nd round - 4th round

#58– Fremantle Dockers – Max Duffy – Height: 189cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 11/04/93
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: East Fremantle (WA)
Why: Duffy was rated highly at the start of the year but had a disappointing season at East Fremantle. Has talent but needs to work on his consistency to make it at AFL level. Consider by GWS as a potential 17 year old selection back in 2010.
Range: 3rd – 4th round.

#59– Essendon Bombers – David Mirra – Height: 185cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 20/03/91
Position: Medium defender.
Recruited from: Box Hill Hawks(VIC)
Why: One of my favourite mature age players, that has also been linked to the Bombers. Has very good closing speed and is very good defensively. Although defensive duties are his first priority he rebounds pretty well and makes good decisions. Named back-pocket in the VFL team of the year.
Range: 3rd round – rookie.

#60– St. Kilda Saints – Steven Verrier – Height: 188cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 24/06/93
Position: Winger.
Recruited from: South Fremantle (WA)
Why: Is very quick and although doesn’t get huge possession numbers uses it well and breaks the lines. Good scope for improvement and will add the Saints’ players capable of breaking the lines
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#61– Sydney Swans – Nick O’Brien – Height: 189cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 26/06/93
Position: Medium forward.
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels (VIC)
Why: O’Brien has good leadership skills and has an incredible workrate. Has good hands and although doesn’t have great speed he has very good endurance. I think eventually with his workrate he could push into the midfield, but it is a fair way off.
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#62 - Carlton Blues – Dylan Buckley F/S – Height: 178cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 16/03/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: Northern Knights (VIC)
Why: Touted as a likely first rounder at the start of the year, he has had a season very much interrupted by injury. Isn’t a great size but has poise and his footskills are good. If he can stay on the park will likely be a good use of a second rounder for the Blues.
Range: Blues last pick.

#63– West Coast Eagles – Mark Hutchings – Height: 180cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 25/05/91
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: West Perth (WA)
Why: Former Saints rookie cum mature ager who has boosted his chance enormously in the last month. Had a very solid season for West Perth in the WAFL before picking up 40 possessions and kicking 5 goals in the under 23s game as a curtain raiser to the WAFL GF. Considered a relatively no frills mid, he then ran a 2.84sec 20m sprint at the Perth draft combine to likely seal his place in the AFL next season.
Range: 3rd round – rookie

#64– Adelaide Crows – rookie upgrade- Matthew Wright

#65 – Collingwood Magpies – Tom Sundberg – Height: 181cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 22/12/88
Position: Inside mid.
Recruited from: Collingwood VFL (VIC)
Why: Sundberg is a mature ager and after an outstanding season with Collingwood in the VFL will make his way into the AFL. Has good pace, looks like he waddles a bit but is quick, kind of like Dane Swan. Normally uses it well and is very versatile and has the ability to play down back or up forward if need be. Very strong in the contests.
Range: 50 – rookie.

#66 – Geelong Cats – Cam Shenton – Height: 186cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 27/09/90
Position: Medium forward.
Recruited from: Norwood (SA)
Why: Is still a bit inconsistent but has an x-factor and also has good athletic abilities to enable him to play on the wing. Still a fair amount of development in him for a mature age player. Capable of filling Menzel’s role in 2012, and in 2013 I can’t imagine many defences that will comfortably cope with three good medium forwards.
Range: 3rd round – rookie

#67– Collingwood Magpies – Jarrod Witts NSW scholarship – Height: 208cm, Weight: 112kg, DOB: 13/09/92
Position: Ruckman
Recruited from: Sydney Uni (NSW)
Why: Although I think Witts is a little overrated by Collingwood fans he still represents good value at this stage in the draft. Is a massive unit and almost worth drafting at that size alone. Does have skills though and the Pies would like him to takeover as #1 ruck in 2-3 years.
Range: Magpies last pick in the draft

#68- St. Kilda – Nathan Blee – Height: 192cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 07/09/90
Position: Key defender.
Recruited from: East Perth (WA)
Why: Had a great season for East Perth and was one of only 4 mature age players invited to the National combine. Will get picked by somebody in one of the drafts and will be able to perform immediately at AFL level. Has good pace and relies on ‘smarts’ to spoil forwards. Reads the play and positions himself very well.
Range: 3rd round – rookie

#69- Brisbane Lions – Ruckman/Forward - Mitch Brewer 204cm 115kg
Mitch Brewer is a 19 year old who is in his fifth season of AFL. A very good kick for a bigman, Tackles well and puts pressure on opponents. Has a good pair of hands and can play very well up forward.
Range: 3rd round - Rookie

#69- Western Bulldogs – rookie upgrade –Luke Dahlhaus

#71- Fremantle – John McKenzie – Height: 178cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 03/06/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: South Launceston (TAS)
Why: I think the guys from Tas and Queensland are always hard to place. McKenzie won the medal for best player in div 2 at the champs. Would be interested to see his state combine results as they could have a big influence on where he is drafted, at 178cm being good athletically is important. Has very good hand skills and his workrate is exceptional.
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#72 – Melbourne Demons - Alex Woodward – Height: 179cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 11/06/93
Position: Inside mid.
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons (VIC)
Why: Improved his ranking after the combine where he finished in the top 10 in the 20m sprint. Works hard defensively and is a strong team player. Good above his head for his size which is important for a player sub 180cm.
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#73- Richmond Tigers – pass

#74 – Fremantle Dockers – Waylen Manson – Height: 195cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 24/04/93
Position: Key forward
Recruited from: Claremont (WA)
Why: Bit of a mythical figure on draft day. Those few that have seen him play think he has enormous potential. Has a huge leap and his athleticism is very unique. The downside is that he will have the big risk of potential home sickness and will need to be given constant attention to ensure this isn’t an issue. Somebody will probably take the risk and the WA clubs have a better chance of keeping him in the AFL.
Range: 3rd – 4th round

#75- Western Bulldogs – rookie upgrade - Matthew Panos

#76- North Melbourne – rookie upgrade – Cam Pederson

#77- Essendon Bombers – Sam Dwyer – Height: 179cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 29/08/86
Position: Half-forward
Recruited from: Port Melbourne (VIC)
Why: Dwyer should get picked by someone, whether it will be in the national draft or to Essendon I don’t know but he deserves a shot. The best player in the VFL has excellent footskills and would be a good fit at Essendon adding pace and class through the wing and half-forward. Limited by his size but in terms of decisions, work rate and skills would be better than at least 50% of guys currently in the system.
Range: 4th round - rookie.

#78- St. Kilda Saints – pass

#79- Richmond Tigers – pass

#80- Carlton Blues – pass

#81- West Coast Eagles – rookie upgrade – Ashton Hams

#82 – Hawthorn Hawks – Lee Spurr – Height: 182cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 27/07/87
Position: Utility.
Recruited from: Central Districts (SA)
Why: Like Dwyer, Spurr will have an impact if given the chance. Can play anywhere from half-back to half-forward has good speed, good skills, good workrate, pretty much the whole skill set to make it as a footballer. The Hawks were one of three clubs to show significant interest in trade week.
Range: 3rd round – rookie.

#83- Collingwood Magpies – pass

#84– Geelong Cats – Jed Bews F/S – Height: 186cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 14/12/93
Position: Defender
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons (VIC)
Why: Medium defender with very strong athletic capabilities. Had a good combine and although hasn’t done a huge amount this season, he does have good scope for improvement. Good defensively and has played with the Cats in the VFL this year.
Range: Cats last pick in the draft.

#85- GWS Giants – pass

#86– Gold Coast Suns - Alex Sexton QLD zone selection – Height: 189cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 03/12/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: Redland (NEAFL)
Why: Midfielder who can also play forward was selected by the Suns as a zone selection. Kevin Sheehan rates him very highly and could possibly have been a first round selection if open to the other clubs. Versatility is good and makes great decisions, he has significant room for improvement but will need to hit the weight before the 2012 season.
Range: Suns 2nd pick.

#87– Port Adelaide – Shaun Wyatt – Height: 180cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 01/11/93
Position: Outside mid.
Recruited from: Gippsland Power (VIC)
Why: I haven’t seen him much in many other mocks but I think he has talent. Is a ball magnet and finished the TAC cup season with the most uncontested possessions in the comp. Needs to work on his disposal but is not terrible currently.
Range: 4th round – rookie.

#88- Brisbane Lions – rookie upgrade - Niall McKeever

#89- Adelaide Crows – rookie upgrade – Aiden Riley

#90- Melbourne Demons – pass

#91- Richmond Tigers – pass

#92- Fremantle Dockers – pass

#93- Western Bulldogs – pass

#94- North Melbourne – rookie upgrade – Luke Delaney

#95- Essendon Bombers– rookie upgrade – Stewart Crameri

#96- St. Kilda Saints – pass

#97- Sydney Swans – pass

#98- Carlton Blues – pass

#99- West Coast – pass

#100- Hawthorn Hawks – rookie upgrade – Luke Breust

#101- Collingwood Magpies – pass

#102- Geelong Cats – pass

#103- GWS Giants – pass

#104- Gold Coast Suns – Jackson Allen QLD zone selection – Height: 179cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 04/03/93
Position: Mid.
Recruited from: Morningside (NEAFL)
Why: The Suns have already secured Allen as a zone selection. Has great kicking skills and could be ready to play next season. Can play mid or half-back and the Suns rate him highly.
Range: The Suns’ 3rd pick.

There might be a couple of mistakes, I am fixing some shortly. If anyone wants to help me out with who their club is likely to upgrade to the senior list that will help a lot.

Geelong would be stoked if they got Bosely and Paine I reckon.

Just to add, we will probably upgrade Dahlhaus and Panos.

You are not wrong - from the footage I have seen of Paine I would do backflips if he fell to our first pick - can't see it happening though. Boseley is another nice prospect that would fill a future need.

You bet we would, absolutely doing cartwheels, would suit our needs and I think both those boys can really play.

Doubt it will happen on draft day though, Boseley might get to 32 but Paine won't.

Grounds for dismissal at Uni....

Poor form if so.

Agree.

"Conjured" is one way of putting it. Ripped off is another. They may have swapped around the order, but the best thing about these mock drafts is reading the descriptions and reasoning behind the order and it's not even theirs!

Pisspoor.

http://www.fantasyfootyclub.com/showthread.php?11541-pvcyclone-s-Mock-Draft
Interesting that you are an Essendon supporter over there..... except that it is my mock....
How about next time you don't steal someone else's work you f@#$wit.

Lol ohh nooo he stole my mock.

WHOOOO CARREEEESSSS seriously lol....overreacting just slightly I would think. It's not like the age are going to see it and private message matzonne to get him to become there next chief drafting writer.

If someone is passing anothers work off as their own, there is something definitely wrong with that.

If you're serious about it, daisy is a spud, then report it and it will be duly closed down.

It looked good though so why don't you just fire up a new thread of your own?
