I reserve my judgement at this point in time. Shall label it 'interesting', rather than 'cool'.

Maybe the fact that the number of Melbourne based Brisbane Lions members has failed to meet their expectations, and maybe the fact that Fitzroy Football Club still exists as a separate entity, and maybe the growing support for the Fitzroy Reds, and maybe the continuing search for a Fitzroy involvement in the VFL, and maybe, just maybe, the substantial number of posts on this board has made them think that they might have to compromise if they are ever to grow their Victorian membership.
But don't ever think they have had a change of heart. Any compromise will be given grudgingly. And then, only if they think it will increase the amount of Melbourne dollars heading north.
The question for those of us who have not embraced the Brisbane Lions is are we interested? Will a change of name to Brisbane Fitzroy Lions win us over? What other changes would we expect? Do we really want to get involved with the AFL again?

it'd certainly be a lot better than that ridiculous idea of Fitzroy coming back in the name of the Tasmanian side in the VFL...WHAT THE?!!...that one's still got me scratching my head!
hilarious actually!

If the proffered name change took effect, and if a couple more games per year were played down in Melbourne, then Brisbane-Fitzroy or whatever it might be called, could very well become 'the team that I sort of follow in the AFL, while my true allegiance is to the Fitzroy Reds'.

I've been biting me tongue on this issue until now, but if they named the club 'Fitzroy' and relocated to Brunswick Street, some of you shoulder be-chipped types would still be looking for ulterior motives to bitch about. Fair dinkum.
Brisbane Lions have done a top job (IMO) in keeping some semblance of Royness running 'round in the big League. I'm at a loss to figure out what more some people expect of 'em. Remember, they have their Brisbane consitituents to look after as well.

sure they do Brisbane Fitzroy Lions sounds good to me
face it the supporter base in Melb is tainted...do the right thing to keep the history in peoples faces..its not gonna kill anyone to call it that..and it certainly would make a proportion of the Fitzroy supporters happier..i know id be happier...

It's not shoulder be-chipped type (?), you Mr Ripper have your opinion, that they the Brisbane Football Club have done a lot for the suporters of the FFC.
Some semblance is just all it is, some semblance, and they still say and you can quote one Andrew Ireland that they still owe us money, that has a lot to do with bad feeling also.
What have they actually done for us (read: me) in regards to games etc in Melbourne but play less and less all the time, and every time this money thing comes up, Bill Atherton has tried and tried to smooth things but to really no avail.
My feelings are very deep, went to my first game in 1953 at Brunny Street, learnt and played Tennis there, my Great Grand father (Dan Robertson) played in the first 4 games in 1884, played in 22 games, him and my Aunty were members of Fitzroy until he died in 1933 (she continued on), and we have had memberships virtually ever since.
This why I don't follow The Bears, they took over a football club, that is like having no friends at all and going out and buying some.

Entirely your prerogative as to how you deal with the Brisbane merger, Levo, no debate there. But your continual "Bear" references irk me somewhat. I'm sure many of the Fitzroy family who now happily subscribe to the Brisbane Lions would feel the same way. So do many Brisbanites who followed the Bears btw.
