Cunners needs to do more media training. I know some are naturals (Dal Santo, Petrie, Grima) and Cunners will never be as good as those guys but surely he can improve a little bit. We know he's going to be a very good player and media interviews will inevitably increase so he should do some more practice interviews with Heath et al over the pre-season and next year for the club website for practice.

He really is a terrible public speaker. Just a shy country boy.
Which is why we love him. But it's important for North Melbourne that someone who is going to be one of our best players is competent with a camera in front of him or a large audience.

The media will be so all over Ben10's endearingly embarrassed Brownlow acceptance speech.

Bet he's not shy when his around the boys. The Duck always looked uncomfortable in front of the cameras or speeches back in the day. Cant tell these days with Wayne's perma smile.

Few tinnies out in the tinny & he'd go alright.
Type of bloke that's great to have around the club. They can't all be Grima's & Hansen's.

THE shock was plain to see on Ben Cunnington’s face as he made his acceptance speech at North Melbourne’s vote count last week.

The Cobden export claimed the Syd Barker Medal by one vote from Todd Goldstein and Levi Greenwood, capping a fantastic season which saw his Kangaroos reach the penultimate round of finals.

The 23 year-old, who said he didn’t have anything written down by way of a speech, was gracious and thankful in accepting his award.

“I’m very humbled, pretty nervous,” he said.

“Firstly, I’d like to thank all the players. To get to the preliminary, to get where we ended up was a great effort.

“Hopefully next year we can go one better.”

Cunnington finished the year with 47 votes, one ahead of Goldstein and Greenwood and two ahead of veterans Brent Harvey and Drew Petrie.

At the end of the home and away season, Cunnington was second on the leaderboard, three votes behind Harvey, who missed the last two rounds of the season and first week of finals through suspension.

His 30 disposals and seven clearances in the elimination final against Essendon earned him four votes, putting him one clear of Harvey.

He attracted one vote in the semi final against Geelong as Harvey (two votes) and Goldstein (four) drew level with him at the top of the leaderboard.

Two votes for his performance against Sydney in the preliminary final saw Cunnington draw clear to win his first Syd Barker medal.

The tough midfielder finished the season with an average of 22 disposals per game, five tackles and kicked 13 goals for the season.

In his acceptance speech, Cunnington also thanked his coaches, the club’s support staff, his family and his partner.

Thought some of you ben10 supporters might like this.
He and gazza get a lot of local write ups.

what a player, imagine how good he will be if he can consistently perform at his best week in week out like the elite players do. Thats his next challenge. Will be top 10 in the comp if he can, his best is that good.
