Ironic.

Further, unlike Australian soccer or cricket, which are subject to FIFA and ICC rules respectively, the AFL has no higher sanctioning organisation mandating WADA code compliance in order to participate.

The primary deterrent to leaving WADA is the PR damage to Australia the AFL would cause through moving away from a doping regime that is widely accepted. There would be funding consequences.

Australia's reputation as a world leader in the fight against doping would be savagely undermined.

The Australian Olympic Committee was the first national Olympic committee to formally adopt the WADA code.

Australia was the first country to pay its contribution to the WADA budget for 2004.

Australia was the first non European signatory to the Council of Europe Anti-Doping convention.

An IOC World Conference on Doping in Sport in Lausanne in February 1999 was concerned the 2000 Sydney Olympics could become known as "the Dirty Games."

Bartels, as ASC chair, asked then prime minister John Howard to fund what became known as the "Sydney Summit" in November 1999, attended by 26 nations.

This was the meeting where WADA was born. Senator Amanda Vanstone, as minister for customs and excise, chaired the meeting, with Bartels saying, "She was so acceptable to the European nations, they wanted her to be chair. But she declined."

WADA was set up, instead, in Canada, with Dick Pound as chair.

A document on the WADA website lauds the later work of Kemp to make Australian sport code complaint. It also confirms the importance of "The Sydney Summit": "It provided the impetus for the development of a coherent anti-doping program and this leveraged the IOC to act to create the body (WADA) that it had promised at Lausanne."

All roads in anti-doping in sport eventually lead to Lausanne, Switzerland, the headquarters of CAS, particularly when the case is the first to involve 34 team members in a professional sport.

This is something Essendon and the AFL must reluctantly accept.

It's another Roy Masters story Akka. Although I'm not sure even the Essendon folk could argue any of its content.

Roy and Bec Wilson haven't been doing too bad a job, to be fair to them Jen.

It's actually not bad to have non-Melborne based journos take an interest here, as too many of the Melbourne journo's don't want to lose their AFL Media Accreditation, by speaking out aganst them.

It's not "another Roy Masters story", it's the same one!

That's possibly a new record. TWO threads by the same poster on the same article.

Keep truckin akka, funny stuff

Woy, the boss' wife, and the rest of the NRL buttsniffer supporters are just angry because their lads at Cronulla didn't have the fortitude to stay true and call ASADA / WADA on their bullshit bluff. They bent over and took it and the AFL version just keeps showing them time and time again they didn't have to.

If it were Cronulla in the same position they'd be following script and cheering them on.

I'm sure they're thinking, why o why didn't we spend 3+ years fighting to the end. Or maybe, they're are thinking, remember that short period of time that no one cares about cos essendon players are still having sleepless nights.

I don't get why Essendons PR team is paying people to discredit HTB. Does it really bite that much?
