Trying to contain the sadness I feel about Menzel because I love him. But Menzel/Henderson for what ended up being pick 8 essentially, plus 5 blokes who couldn't get a gig for varying reasons, is too much to sensibly think about right now I just want to be sad.

Wowee. Can't ever remember seeing 4 guys moving from one club to another - let alone in the same trade! Welcome to the Blues guys. Kick some arse.

More players* moved in this trade than moved from Fitzroy to Brisbane in the merger...

* including picks

These players surely deserve their own welcome threads.

I have high hopes for Plowman. As for rest, I have varying degrees of concern about their ability to make it at the top level.

They came fairly cheaply so hopefully we've struck some gold. Sumner especially could be something if he can get some form and fitness together.

Lachie Plowman alone makes this trade for 28 a huge win. If his body holds us he'll hold down a key defensive spot for 10 years. Only have to look at my old phantom draft to see how highly I rate him.

Lamb will get games for us. At this stage I think he'd get games in front of Tutt and then it'll all depend on what he does with his opportunities.

Phillips is ruck depth. We needed it, especially if Warnock goes. Good to have on the list.

Haven't seen anything too inspirational from Sumner so far but if by miracle the change of club sees him live up to his draft position then we're laughing. I'd run him off half back in the VFL to get some easy ball and get some continuity in his game then see what happens. Not expecting too much but as I said, getting Plowman makes it all worth it.

Congratulations on what looks like a huge win on paper for you guys. We obviously are just focused on clearing out the mid level contracts and players that simply can't break into the team.

Pick 8 is a strange one but maybe there's more to it?

Good luck to the boys and hope they come on for you guys

Personally having watched some of their NEAFL games over the past 3 years my personal thoughts on each one:
- Lamb has value but only if you don't play him exclusively as a forward. He's capable of playing as an inside mid with some nice evasive skills.
- Phillips is a possible late bloomer but could just as easily be a bust. Ruckmen take years to develop and we won't know for a few years if he can make it.
- Sumner has been very poor the NEAFL's dominant side over the past 2 years and I wouldn't have touched him based on NEAFL form alone. Also not a fan of his selfish play. But obviously rated high as a junior that would have had some bearing on your decision to get him.
- A few Swans NEAFL players will be glad to see the back of Plowman. He has dominated us in most of our matchups with his excellent reading of play and ability to be third man in. He's also quite creative for a tall defender with the ball in hand. However, I'm not sure if he'll make it as a key defender, and is probably more of a third tall or in betweener.

Pretty exciting really, they all should be ready to hit their straps next season, just hoping they can really play, but I guess we're going to find that out. we're going youth mad and that's good, some of these guys rated very highly as juniors.
Well that's the positive thing for me. A few of these guys haven't set the world on fire, but they ARE still young and were highly rated. There is still every chance they could turn out guns, or at least one of them.
