Really should be bending over backwards to get some lower picks #9 for #12+#14 should be our number 1 target

I suppose if i want it enough --- and it happens, Great reason to get pissed friday night
People need to forget this. They have pick 29 now. So they will use 12 & 14. If they were out of list spots they'd package 14 & 29 and not 12 & 14.

GWS didn't fill all their list spots last year as they wanted to be able to give their kids a decent chance. Don't think they are under spot pressure.

I'd love Simpson with one of the 30's picks. Without knowing too much about him, does anyone have any feel for whether he'd likely settle in well? Our luck with the indigenous boys hasn't been all that flash in recent years, which is the only thing putting me off Garlett with pick 9... pick 32 would be easier to stomach "wasting" if that turned out to be the case! And if we go with solid prospects like Vlastuin, Hrovat etc with our other selections, I'd be happy!

Aint no chance of Simpson lasting that long IMO, I think he'll go 15-25, wouldn't be shocked if he went top 15, before Garlett even. He's a ridiculous talent.

I really want Sam Mayes. I mean... I DESPERATELY want him. I reckon he'll be an absolute beauty and could be the best player from this draft. He's miles ahead of all players in terms of kicking and he's a great size. He has goal-kicking and ball-winning ability and just oozes class. Shouts a mix of Scott Pendlebury and Marc Murphy for me.

Two possibilities for which I can see him landing to us is if Port prefer Menzel, which is quite possible. Also if Dogs take Plowman and Stringer at 5 + 6, and O'Rourke/Macrae go at 7. Either way, Footy Gods, I beg you to let this happen.

LOL would be a dream scenario to get him. I don't know how highly we rate him, think if Port don't get him, then Brisbane would. But he is a chance to slip.

The only thing I question is his competitiveness and it is a feature we look strongly for. But you are well in your rights to be in awe of him, he is a beautiful player, so balanced and astute. Just flows.

I think there are a clear two we are looking at right now. Garner and Vlastuin. From what I have been told.

The things we need to take into account now are all the post-trading related issues.

- Tippet to go into the draft (Top 10 unless he can get to Sydney and is not deregistered)
- Jacobs to go into the draft. (Before our 2nd round 32)
- Toy to go into the draft. (Before our 2nd round 32)
- Adelaide to maybe lose pick 20. (Before our 2nd round 32)

Take this into account at our first pick:
Pick 9.
Most think the order will be Whitfield (GWS), Grundy (GWS), Toumpas (GWS), Wines (Melb). O'Rourke (Dogs), Plowman (Dogs), Mayes (Port), Macrae (Bris). Now it all changes... Do GWS or Brisbane make a play for Tippet? If so, who falls??? GWS make the play.. Maybe Dogs take Grundy and O'Rourke slides. Brisbane take him Macrae slides....

Pick 32/34
Daniher, Viney, Tippet, Toy and Jacobs will all go before these picks you would think and Adelaide may also lose pick 20. Daniher and Viney are unavailable to us, so technically our 32, 34 and 43 picks will be spent on who we rate the best AVAILABLE pick 26, pick 28 and pick 37 in this year's draft...

Our position has uniquely gotten a little bit better and made those unattainable sliders come a little closer to punt rd :)

Why would Toy go PSD ?
Just be limiting his chances of getting drafted,If he enters the november draft he has more chances of getting picked and if he doesnt then there is still the psd & Rookie draft he is entitled to get picked up

dont understand bolded part but as a whole good points made

Azzle is saying that after taking out the picks the clubs have committed to Father Son selections and the fact that Tippet, Jacobs etc will be selected before our round 2, 3 and 4 picks, essentially our picks become 26,28 and 37 for the best kids.
I agree Toy prob won't factor in the draft before our selections.

I don't think GWS will take Tippett. They've got quality key position forwards. Brisbanes a chance but gee Tippett hasn't covered himself in glory lately. I wouldn't want him at the RFC irrespective of talent.

Thinking about Tigerbob's tip. Garner or Flosstone. Would be pretty happy with either. Think Vlastuin will become a gun inside mid. His character and leadership will be invaluable. Love his kicking. Looks like he kicks like Bryce Gibbs. Overhead marking a feature which is always good. Ideal succession plan for Tuck who is ultra important for us. Garner I've got a few question marks on but he looks to have a frame he can put some size on. Would be a lot keener if he hadn't just had a shoulder reco. Love his overhead marking, even more impressive considering his shoulder was stuffed. His ability to play through pain is also a massive tick. Agility at ground level is exciting and coupled with his will to compete means he could pinch hit in the midfield. medium forward is obviously a need for us and would bring something we just don't have. Looks very dynamic in a Nat fyfe cross steve Johnson way.

Tippet will go PSD too. Jacobs is the only one who might go ND and effectively upgrade our 2ND rounders. Plus the Crows will potentially be stripped of picks if they're found to have had a secret side deal with Tippet.

Seconded! Pure class.

I'd be happy with Vlastuin. His (lack of) pace is overstated IMO, and more than covered by his ball winning ability, kicking, and leadership. Read one of the write up's on him and it started he's the sort of guy you'd expect will eventually captain whichever AFL club he goes to.

9. Nick Vlastuin 187cm 83kg 18yr old - IMO the safest pick for us in the draft. Addresses a big need for us in that he is a big bodied inside midfielder who is a clearance machine so in a couple of years will be ready to go as a replacement for Tuck. Some might say that he is being taken too early but to me he just ties in with the Conca/Ellis type first round picks in recent years. Safe secure and a solid player.

32. Dean Towers 189cm 83kg 22yr old - would give us another mature bodied midfielder that is ready to go from round 1. Would also add another outside threat to our midfield. Showed at the combine that he has decent speed and can run all day as well. Ties in with our desire to build some genuine depth through the midfield this year.

34. Jason Pongracic 182cm 86kg 18yr old - Again another inside ball winner who will be ready to go in a couple of years when Tuck has moved on. Reading the write ups on this kid he really strikes me as a player Dimma would love for the simple fact that he just attacks the ball and more often than not comes away with it. Again ties in with our desire to add to the midfield.

43. Shane Nelson 179cm 73kg 19yr old - overlooked last year but has gone away and put the numbers on the board that suggests he is worth a shot. Accumulates the footy by running to the right spots and when he does get it often uses it well. Can be let down at times by decision making when put under pressure, but then again who isn't. Would finish off our draft well and give us a very deep midfield unit.

If Macrae slides which I think is now a possibility, would you take him over Vlastuin.
Personally I'd still take Vlastuin as I see him filling a bigger need for us than Macrae does. Thats not to say that Macrae isn't a worthy choice just that when I put down who I want its based more on needs over best available.

I would prefer any 1 of Garlett,Macrae,Plowman,Mayes,Wines before Vlastuin tbh,We need more pace in the midfield
Dean Towers would be a good get with #32/#34
Mayes is the only one I could easily say I'd take ahead of Vlastuin, but each to their own. Grab some pace at 32/34. Seems highly unlikely he'll be there, but this is why I'd be keen on Simpson with our second selection. Looks more damaging than Garlett to me.

Re: Vlastuin not being best available, at stages some have considered him worthy of top 5 selection, and Chris25 still has him gone before our pick 9, so clearly to say he wouldn't be best available at 9 is a matter of opinion.
