More left footers please. There is something about them. It won Richmond the '95 final (Matty Knights - unbelievable - he's my best ever tho). It won Hawthorn the '08 Granny (Stu Dew - overweight but deadly). Maybe the new Knighta (Chris), O'Hanlon and this kid Murdoch, can win us a few with their deadly.

M_R do you think we should go after Tom Grimes and how does he compare with his brothers?
Yep they just keep getting better and better :D

i saw tom grimes grow up as a junior and he was miles away from the talent of jack and to a lesser extent Dyl

very much a late late pick or rookie selection

M_R I know i'm getting ahead of myself but where would you have Matt Scharenberg going next year ,if we could get our hands on him I would be a very happy tiger supporter !!!

I haven't seen anything of Matt outside of this years Champs, so my opinion of him may not be the best, but I really like him. From what I've seen he's a great ball-winner, very good disposal, loves to do the team-oriented thing (blocks, shepherds) and has elite endurance. He didn't go on the bench once throughout the Champs, which is quite astounding considering his age. Just from a few notes, he provides really good rebound and has natural ball-winning ability.

I don't know where he'll go, as I've said it's very early stages, but he's a very good player. I'd predict in the 5-15 range, so we'll see. I look forward to watching him next year, I'll be doing much more draft-watching.

Hmm, I don't think he'll cut it. Too small to be a KPD and not clean enough to be a good medium defender. That said, we have a plethora of medium defenders, we even have two on our rookie list, so its not a need. Nowhere near the same class as his brothers, nor the same reliability. Comes from a good family though, so would have likely performed well in the psych testing.

Thanks M_R enjoy reading your posts on the draft , very knowedgeable , Thanks for rundown on Scharenberg will be keeping an eye on him for next year , Cheers

There are 4 players who I would be content with using pick 9 on.

Grundy
Menzel
Vlastuin
Macrae

Simply because all have the capability of being elite in the AFL. I don't want us picking up a reliable player who will be a B+ type. Grundy will be an absolute gun, he is a cross between Naitanui and Cox. Menzel in my opinion is the best talent of this years pool, (Other than O'Meara + Daniher) and I think he could be the best player from this pool. Vlastuin will thrive in our midfield and could be as good as Selwood or Swallow. With Macrae, the sky is his limit, just needs to develop an inside game.

So many choices, it's doing my head in.

Grundy will be gone by 9, long gone. Would be very happy with any of the other 3, and I'm probably leaning towards Menzel to be honest.

Why no O'Rourke?

I believe that Aaron is playing in the VFL. Nathan is 20 and is playing in the NFL (Northern Football League)

Neither are good enough to be AFL players though.
Also, believe it or not both are very injury prone.

Martin_Riewoldt -How do you compare this years draft to last years and next years? It was considered a bounty earlier in the year but GCS opted out, though that may have been for list management reasons, and the Dee's seemed to think that Hogan was going to be better than anything in the years draft available to them. Just trying to get a perspective on what was in my opinion huge overs paid for the mini-draft selections.

I posted this on the Carlton board, but figured you lot would find it handy also,

Emma Quayle was on SEN yesterday morning discussing the draft, she had some pretty interesting thoughts:

  • GWS will select: (1) Whitfield, (2) Toumpas, (3) Menzel
  • Grundy will slide as far as Richmond's selection (Pick #9).
  • Wines a certainty to be picked up by Melbourne at Pick #4.
  • Menzel is her pick to be the best player in the draft, has the ability to break games open and turn them on their head, and that will appeal to GWS, especially given their number of picks, they can afford to take a risk given his injuries.
