2011 Round 3 Total 2,735,000

The full figures are now available for subscription channel viewing for the week 1/4/12 to 7/4/12 and they would delight Foxtel and the AFL.

Fox Footy picked up a 3.1% share of viewing in subscription TV households. This compares very well to Fox 8 (2.5%) and the heavily NRL dominated Fox Sports 2 (2.4%).

The figures are even better when you consider that a couple of the matches were shown on Fox Sports 1 and these figures exclude Tasmania (as noted in the report) and regional WA and SA which are not part of the national subscription TV panel - all up a 1.25m football heartland population.

Decent rating (65k) in Brisbane for a GC game considering their start to the season, that it was on a multichannel and was also on Foxtel. Shows that there is a reasonable base there for growth when they start to climb up the ladder.

Dogs v Saints rating was poor but I can't blame any neutral for switching over to the GC v Ess game given my team's woeful performance.

Do these include the 7mate figures for Hawthorn v Adelaide? And other various 7mate matches over the weekend like Suns v Ess?

Hawthorn v Adelaide appears to have not been shown in Sydney and Brisbane, or the ratings for said game were below the 1,000 threshold. It does include all other digital matches. Its entirely possible that the Mediaweek ratings include both matches on 7 mate for 34k. Ive been unable to confirm this.

It was shown in Brisbane

from memory in sydney the gws v west coast match was on both 7mate and fox footy but the hawks v adelaide was only on fox sports 1 as the matches overlapped.

They are massive figures esp for Foxtel who have been vindicated in paying the large fee to the AFL!

The nRL would be worried at this trend esp if it keeps up all season.

I dont mean the slight trend down but the 4,430,000 + average atm.

For starters the ANZAC game will boost the figures and when the colder weather sets in mid winter the rating figures will be even better.

Some interesting quality matches to come this week which should bump the total back above 4 million.

Fri night St Kilda v Freo.
Carlton v Essendon
West Coast v Hawthorn
Q Clash Lions v Suns
Sydney v North

we are still at the mercy of the competing games.

Round 1 had 2 less AFL games head to head, and it cracked 5.

Obviously, the broadcast agreement is much better this time, but we still have saturdays h2h, saturday nights h2h, sat twilight overlapping, the same sunday overlap.

Every timeslot is a very high number of AFL fans watching, however they are split either across 1, 2 or 3 games on both fox and FTA. Move a Sat game to monday night FTA for example, and watch the total jump by a min 500K every week.

Foxtel figures are very good, but still Id love to see analysis of their increase in uptake in vic states. Friends of mine still wont get foxtel because, whilst all games live is great to us footy freaks, they see it that they still get every AFL timeslot for free - just dont get to pick their game.

It's not like every game on a Saturday or Sunday is the domain of fox, which probably would do much better for fox to drive subscriptions up, which is a distinct different aim to general ratings on the AFL channel.

I get to see my team live every week in (near) HD. So, if I was getting Foxtel, it would be for the A-League or EPL (and the occasional Broncos game that's not on Ch 9). As much as I love watching sports $720 per year (plus another $120 for a HD upgrade) is a rip-off.

Sorry mate, but 7mate's simulcasting of Foxtel matches is as far off of HD as anything. From what I've seen on 7mate, it's actually somehow worse than the regular Channel 7 coverage. I've also seen many complaints on here about how s**t 7mate's quality has been. Apparently for the Swans Port game it was woeful. Are you a season ticket holder of the Lions by the way?

It's still much, much better than ordinary crappy SD and Yes, I go to every home game, plus away games v Suns, so that's 10 Lions games I watch on TV.
