As of 30/11/2012 our senior list of 40 players have an average age of 23 years 76 days.
As of 31/3/2013 (our round 1 game) it will be 23 years, 197 days.

It has gone down from 2012 with the moving on of several senior players. Anyone have data on their own team? I have excluded rookies as most clubs I assume have an incomplete rookie list.

    Umm, isn't 23 yr 197 days older than 23 years 76 days.

Doesn't that mean your 2013 team is older than your 2012?

I must admit I was surprised to hear that the Kangaroos list would age an additional 121 days (on average) over the next 121 days. Has this ever happened before ?

I find these threads interesting, and think haters who oversimplify the issue by joking that "youngest team wins lol" are quaint.

I CBF right now work out the eagles age manually, still interested in the result.

It is our 2013 team, as of today and march next year. Our 2012 team was pre free agency/trade/draft/etc.

Yeah, it isn't really a young pissing contest. I would prefer our average age to be 25-26 as it would indicate a far more experienced side.

Not relevant 'til after the pre-season draft. The Tigers could pick Stephenson, which would increase their age markedly.

Besides, it's more relevant to examine the age of the best 22 and then break that down into mids, KPPs etc.

The ages he states are from today 30th and what they will be as of round 1 2013. Doesn't include the beginning of 2012 ages for comparison :)

Or it can still be somewhat of a pissing contest, but only when comparing teams of similar abilities/performances.

Anyway, it's interesting to know the ages of squads, and come March the age if best 22s.

Yeah, teams that have a PSD pick wont be able to give their final number. I find it hard to work out who is our best 22.

If only the Doggies had some exciting young prospects to brag about. ;)

Anyone got the info for the Swans?
I swear in 2010/11 it was around 23 years.

    Sorry, can't help myself:D

Here's the average age of each clubs 22 (average over all 22 games) from 2012:

    1 St Kilda 26.31
    2 Sydney 25.94
    3 Geelong 25.91
    4 Fremantle 25.17
    5 Hawthorn 25.06
    6 Adelaide 24.98
    7 West Coast 24.73
    8 Carlton 24.69
    9 Bulldogs 24.62
    10 Essendon 24.59
    11 Brisbane 24.46
    12 North Melb 24.4
    13 Collingwood 24.25
    14 Port Adelaide 24.22
    15 Melbourne 24
    16 Richmond 23.89
    17 Gold Coast 22.72
    18 GWS 21.89

So as we can see being older generally means being better. Losing experience and becoming "younger" is not a good thing.

I have no idea about average list ages but they aren't really as relevant because those youngs guys aren't even best 22. There's no guarantee that when they come into the side they will improve it.

that's ok, it's fairly typical of North supporters not to know anything about other clubs or their players... I won't hold it against you....

There was an article a few weeks back saying that the Dogs have the third youngest list behind GWS and GCS heading into next season. Not sure on how it was calculated or if it was just spin... Too late to look for it now as well....

Could definitely be true. These are numbers from this year and measure the sides that fronted up to each of their 22 matches, not the entire list.

It interesting how Geleong is see to be an old list and past their best which may be a fair point but the premiers Sydney have an older list and won the flag yet are not spoken about as having an aging list and being past it.
