If Rodney Hogg was selecting the Australian team for the upcoming Boxing Day Test he would make a host of changes, including dropping out-of-form Shane Watson.

The 33-year-old only has four hundreds in 101 Test innings and has not made more than 43 this year.

Paine was done when he had two years out with his busted finger. Was just starting to take his game to the next level.

He is one of my favourites so it's sad that he won't be given another go.

It's hard to judge Paine, he's one of my favourites too, but he has suffered from Haddin gargling the balls of the selectors combined with his finger issues.

Has played only 4 tests but in those has scored 300 runs including 2 50s. The talent is/was there, just never got a solid go.
In those 4 matches has 16 caught behinds and a stumping. He's a decent gloveman.

Eerie to note he faced 666 balls in test match cricket and hasn't played since reaching that figure.

It's difficult to fins anything to disagree with in that article. I've never understood why Marsh gets chances ahead of some other guys. It's similar to a group of people continually calling for Callum Ferguson. As a specialist Batsman if you average under 40 in Shield cricket you probably shouldn't be picked in the test side. Obviously exceptions should be made for guys that average under 40 but are in fantastic form.

I like it! Only issue is Faulkner's not in the best form with the bat either and having him at 7 and Wade at 6 makes us a bit long in the tail.

Since you couldn't be bothered, I've applied the NSW 2.5 multiplier for you.

With 230 runs across 13 innings and a test career average of 82.5 it'll take a hell of a non-NSW player to dislodge him - and with a career average like that rightly so too.

Also interesting to note, now Bollinger has left the Hurricanes hes apparently one of the best opening bowlers in the comp. Guess its because he plays for the sixers. Guy is a massive spud.

Agree with some of that but Kohli's reaction when he got out in the second innings of the Adelaide test would suggest he's not in that boat.
