Preview 2014 Draft Our First Pick - Who Do We Take?

Agree flea, even if there are those who find gems as I think many would at some stage. Anyone in the AFL in a recruiting roll who was able to consistently pick "a gem". Could pretty much name their salary...to the best of my knowledge there is no recruiter like that. At this stage it is not an exact science.....
And it's the same in every sport with a draft. There are plenty of busts and bargains in the NBA and that has a lot more money going into recruiting than AFL.

They don't want to have to. They would rather it be in the second round.

I'm saying I know two clubs who look like bidding for him under the Pick 8. Magpies will have to decide is my guess.

I'll say they will take him because he could be a bonafide champion. You wouldnt like to be the recruiter who turns down a legends son who Turns out to be a superstar.
Especially with James Stewart looking promising for GWS. :p

Buckley was quoted saying that they may not go for Moore with their first pick
He's known for bullshittxng so they're trying to hedge their bets to get him with their second pick
Which will not happen as he's a very good prospect

I'd love to play poker with him, fool is as good at bluffing as he is at keeping his side together

Have added Kyle Langford to the mix as it appears that the kid is climbing up the rankings given the success of Bontempelli this year. Not only that but the kid is talented going by all the reports about him.

When you look at this group Francis is really going to have fun picking out the kid we take, if we keep the pick. For mine I'm split between Duggan and Weller as they both bring what we need, i.e pace and skill. At this stage Duggan is slightly ahead as he seems a little bigger than Weller, however it could change if come combine it's shown that Weller has put on some weight. The other one I'd like to see us take if on the board is Ahern but not sure he is going to be around come pick 11/12, whereas the other 2 are almost assured of being on the board.

Laverde, Ahern or De Goey please.......

Wouldn't mind finding some more info on Langford, bit of interest there....

I have him around the fringe of the top 10. Anyone who gets him after pick 15 has a bargain, IMO.
Do the Tigers go hard and try trade out a player for another pick within the top 20?

What do we make of the potential draft spots of 11-20? Still a rich enough pool of talent?

Will be interesting to see what FJ and the RFC are thinking......

I can't see it either.

Especially when you've got the WB and Carlton who've been crying out for a talented KPF for 15 years.

I personally dont believe teams before collingwood will bid for Moore, There looks to be very good talent available in the top 10
But Carlton being Carlton and Mick Being Mick - Should just to FU the pies

Another pick inside 20 would be gold, but Vickery is probably the only trade that would get us one, and he won't be traded. The top 40 is pretty good though, so I reckon trading say Batch for pick 35 is better value than Vickery for 15.

I dont know enough about this years draft class to make any educated guess but i do have high hopes for this draft for the first time in years as its the first one not being comepletely poached by the exspansion sides. If i have to make an animal sacrifice to the football gods for us to get some absolute guns with our picks though im more than willing.

Dude i was in a good mood until i read that, can we start a petition along the lines of Melbourne are going to suck no matter how many picks they get so dont waste those players on the demons? I spose a small part of me feels a little sorry for them and thier supporters though, there going what we went through in the wallace (i hate saying his name incase it invokes bad luck) years.

EDIT: Dont bite my face off guys i know we had plenty of other bad years too, was only using the most recent example.

I feel bad for them with Clark thats it.

Everything they have done they have done it to themselves, s**t development, poor trading and sacking the wrong people and hiring the wrong people.

I'm not old enough to remember and i know the trade wars hurt us but we were out on our feet and kept fighting.

Melbourne cleared debt and were in the best position they had been for years and have chucked in the towel for a 2nd time (Hawks merger) and if the AFL were keen on not having another fitzroy they would be out of the comp, instead they get the AFL to fund the highest paid coach in the game and pay off all their debts/payouts.
