Gary Rohan topped the kicking test in his draft year. Every time I've seen him, he has been a complete liability with the ball in his possession. The test says nothing about disposal/decisions under the pressure of a game (i.e. when it actually matters).
Lindsay Thomas might have a fair bit to do with that. Give him time his disposal will get better eventually.

i don't doubt what you saw but it is an issue, this is from afl.com

His kicking can at times be a little untidy, and his disposal efficiency was 62 per cent at the under-18 championships.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-18/meet-clem-smith
And the people from afl.com see him how much? A couple of games playing deep in defence in a team getting thumped? Does the efficiency % take desperate long kicks out of defence into account? A mate who watches Perth all the time says his disposal isn't an issue.

The TAC cup is so overrated. The best bargain draftees are those taken later who have player senior football at WAFL and SANFL level. Even VFL players are underrated. Unfortunately the high picks are needed for the young Vic talent and get the bargains later.

According to the Draft Rumours thread we are interested in Boekhorst from Swans and Jayden Foster - 194cm forward.

The former looks a likely type.

Draft selections:
13, 34, 54, 72
Defenders: Luke McPharlin, Zac Dawson and Alex Silvagni are the key defenders while Michael Johnson and Garrick Ibbotson can play on talls and smalls and both tend to drop off their opponents as key intercept markers. Lee Spurr, Cam Sutcliffe and Paul Duffield play on the medium-sized forwards and smalls and provide run from defence. Clancee Pearce can play in defence or run through midfield. Alex Pearce, Tanner Smith (rookie) and Tom Vandeleur (rookie) are developing defenders.
Midfielders: The big bodies of Nat Fyfe, David Mundy and Michael Barlow are the pillars of the Dockers' midfield. Lachie Neale has stepped up as a ball magnet. The Dockers also have the outside run of Danyle Pearce and Stephen Hill. Nick Suban and Anthony Morabito are in the next bracket of midfielders that can play inside and outside. Ryan Crowley is the key run-with player while Tendai Mzungu is a utility that can fill a variety of roles. Tom Sheridan is still developing along with youngster Brady Grey. Jacob Ballard could be upgraded from the rookie list as a readymade ball-winner. The key rucks are strong with Aaron Sandilands and Zac Clarke and they have back-up in Jon Griffin and Jack Hannath.
Forwards: Matthew Pavlich is still the central figure in attack but Matt Taberner is developing as a key forward and Michael Apeness is coming into his second year. Chris Mayne and Matt de Boer fill the medium forward roles although both are relied upon for their defensive pressure. Colin Sylvia is fighting for a similar position in the side. Hayden Ballantyne, Michael Walters, Hayden Crozier and Max Duffy provide the spark and class at ground level. The Dockers haven't lost much from last year, as Kepler Bradley and Scott Gumbleton did not play at all.
In a nutshell: The Dockers are still looking for key-position prospects as there are no guarantees that Pavlich, McPharlin and Sandilands will play beyond 2015.
Cal Twomey says: If Sam Durdin is still available at pick 13, which is a strong chance, the Dockers would find it hard to knock him back, given his ability to play at both ends and pinch-hit in the ruck. Hard-running tall Tom Lambis also a slim chance to be up for grabs at pick 34.

Boekhorst is also being looked at by other clubs with picks before our 2nd rounder

"the Pies could eye a ready-to-go midfielder in Blaine Boekhorst at No.30. "
"Brett Anderson of Inside Football was all over this one having Boekhorst going to Carlton at 28 well before any of the other more recent media rumours."

In: Sean Hurley (category B rookie).

Out: Kepler Bradley, Scott Gumbleton, Sam Menegola (rookie), Michael Wood (rookie), Josh Simpson, Tanner Smith.

Draft picks: 13, 34, 54, 72.

TALL FORWARDS: Matthew Pavlich, Matt Taberner, Michael Apeness.

TALL DEFENDERS: Luke McPharlin, Zac Dawson, Michael Johnson, Alex Silvagni, Alex Pearce, Tom Vandeleur (rookie), Sean Hurley (category B rookie).

SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Hayden Ballantyne, Chris Mayne, Michael Walters, Colin Sylvia, Brady Grey, Max Duffy.

SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Paul Duffield, Lee Spurr, Nick Suban, Cameron Sutcliffe, Garrick Ibbotson.

MIDFIELDERS: Nathan Fyfe, David Mundy, Stephen Hill, Michael Barlow, Ryan Crowley, Matt de Boer, Danyle Pearce, Hayden Crozier, Tendai Mzungu, Clancee Pearce, Lachie Neale, Tom Sheridan, Anthony Morabito, Jacob Ballard (rookie).

RUCKS: Aaron Sandilands, Zac Clarke, Jon Griffin, Jack Hannath, Craig Moller (rookie).

The Dockers have gone tall in the past couple of years, with Apeness, Taberner, Pearce and Hannath all showing some encouraging early signs. They could still do with some options at either end, most obviously down back, which will bring players such as Hugh Goddard, Sam Durdin, Caleb Marchbank and Jake Lever into their thinking. The appealing thing about Durdin would be his ability to play at either end of the ground, though he's looked more comfortable in defence. Peter Wright would be very hard to pass up on if he makes it this far. The Dockers generally pick the player they consider the best before reaching for any particular type, and midfielders like Paul Ahern and Liam Duggan would be looked at hard if they made it to their first pick. Lukas Webb, Daniel McKenzie, Jordan Cunico and Dan Howe are three versatile half-back midfield types who would be a good fit at Freo, while Tom Lamb, should he get to 34, would be a great fit for Subiaco given his running ability.

Collingwood have been linked to several, as the Pies always are. Lachie Weller, Jayden Laverde, De Goey and Ahern all seem right in their mix and they have visited Pickett and Kyle Langford in the past week. If they don't choose Laverde, it will be fascinating to see how far down the order he gets, and he may go outside the top 10. If they don't pick Langford, he could be on his way to the Gold Coast, Fremantle or Adelaide.

well if that is the case then i can't argue with the bigfooty equivalent of a one two punch, ie my mate says and i have seen him once.

for the record i rate smith and would like us to draft him but he shanks a lot of kicks and no the games i saw were not highly congested, he just has tendency to kick poorly sometimes. could this be fixed, i don't know, but at afl level the last thing you want is a half back with a poor kick.

We will take Lever if he is there (which looks likely). It is senseless to speculate about drafting midfielders when key defenders are our biggest hole going forward.

He averaged just under 20 disposals a game last year in the TAC Cup so he has a rebounding component to his game as well as being able to be utilised as a stopper.

He captained Vic Metro as an underager last year and has terrific leadership out of the back half. There's not much more to say really, he would be a big-time bargain if he fell to us.

Wright would probably be the only other guy that we would rate ahead of him outside of the top 3, but he looks like going in the top 10 so that's a moot point, really.

Starting to gather legs this rumour. This POhantom drafter has us taking McKenzie with our second.
#13 FREM - Langford
Durdin and Lever are big chances here as well as Wright if he slides but I've got a feeling the Dockers like the huge potential of Langford.

Pick 16: North Melbourne – Kyle Langford

Position: Utility

Height: 190 cm, Weight: 73 kg, DOB: 01/12/1996

Club: Northern Knights

Projected draft range: 25-40

Plays like: Marcus Bontempelli

A really nifty player who gives you a bit of everything, Kyle Langford is a versatile third tall type who can be utilised at either end of the ground, having shot up the draft rankings dramatically over the past six weeks. Langford started the season in hot form, bagging 11 goals in his first three games for Northern, having been utilised as a key tall who pushed high and hard up the wings. He averaged 18 disposals, eight marks and five tackles during that period, resulting in Vic Metro selection. Although best known for completely shutting down Tom Lamb in round one of the carnival, Langford was used in defence as a third tall, while once again provided an option between the arcs. In that time, his clean hands, agility, athleticism and will to create drive from defence were on full display. His tackling makes up for his lack of ability to win the contested ball, whilst he puts himself in dangerous positions to mark, whether that’s cutting off a forward entry or pushing hard up the ground to mark on a wing. He is quite prolific in the air, and has shown enough to suggest that he could develop nicely into a rangy winger that can drop back or forward when required.

34 FREM - R.Mckenzie
A KP player blessed with awesome pace to with his size; huge potential.

ROUND TWO

Pick 22: St Kilda – Reece McKenzie

Position: Key forward/ruckman

Height: 196 cm, Weight: 100 kg, DOB: 28/03/1996

Club: Northern Knights

Projected draft range: 25-60

Plays like: Travis Cloke

Reece McKenzie has his fans as much as he has his critics. His fans will say he’s a pack-crunching, contested marking monster who relishes the opportunity to throw his weight around, dominating marks inside 50 and kicking bags of goals in his sleep. Meanwhile, his critics will say he lacks agility, is a flat track bully who has only turned it on against weak opposition, relies too heavily on his strength and height at TAC Cup level to beat his opponent and has poor recovery capabilities. The upside is certainly worth talking about, particularly given McKenzie has played just the one year at TAC Cup level since making the permanent switch from basketball. His natural leap as well as his clean hands featured in the top 10 of the combine, while his speed of 2.97 seconds was the equal-second quickest during testing. McKenzie is still largely raw in facets, but his body positioning, contested marking and his nous to kick bags means he can turn a game on its head. He’s filled out for his age, and for a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve, he’s going to become a fan favourite with his passionate approach. Ideally, he’ll have to strip some weight to bring about his agility, allowing him to roam further up the ground which needs improvement. In turn, this will aid his ability to recover form a contest. He won’t be someone who comes on right away, so be prepared for a few years of development.

I heard on 720 this arvo before the International rules that Peter Wright could go top 6! Does this sound right? Is this an indication of the evenness of the draft?

What would be the point of drafting anyone for "the space of Subi" when by the time they are ready to play we will be playing on the standard size throwing away home advantage Perth Stadium.

Wright could go a high as 6 and low as 15. Petracca, and Brayshaw will go in the top three and after that players out the top 15 could slide or rise a lot. The first round is very even.
