Blease is kinda right though. We have stuffed the development of a lot of guys; it wasn't just bad picks (although some obviously were). Tappy, Watts, Morton etc were/are very talented players but were in a terrible environment for young players. Their own laziness/issues wouldn't have helped but as an 18/19year old, even a 'mature' one, you're going to need a lot of direction from others to keep your s**t together and become a quality AFL player.
Blease did seem to be pretty lazy too, which didn't help his own cause.

I have no problem with Blease's comments. As supporters we lament all the problems we've had over the years, he's only doing the same. At Melbourne his career nearly perished like so many other high draft picks. Our development, culture and player attitudes have all been poor.

Blease needed to take more ownership no doubt but our development has been diabolical.

Having said that, the only way to improve is to look forward and we need players who take ownership and want a genuine say in where this club goes rather than just wanting a pay-check and thinking they are all that simply to where they were picked. With more senior direction and positive attitudes we're on track. Blease obviously needed a new start.

Pushing out Bruce, Yze, McDonald and Miller meant that the kids coming in didn't have strong leaders driving them to be better.

It's a vicious circle of failure by the coaches that were there, the players not working hard enough and recruitment being off. As well as the Management allowing this s**t to happen. There isn't one reason for all these players developing; it's a mixture of many factors of major failings by our club.

It's just frustrating to hear that players have whinges about the club after they leave; when, from the outside, these players were average footballers. It makes them look like average people. Blease, Magner, Morton are some examples.

Hoo boy you begin to wonder how far back you could start pointing the finger. Daniher no doubt had player favourites by the end of his tenure which meant that perhaps senior players who should be guiding the younger ones were getting rather lazy themselves. These seniors were then obviously shafted by Bailey who had a 'kids at all costs' mentality (which itself seemed to be driven from higher powers).

If you actually listen to the whole interview, when Blease is talking about why Geelong were interested, he mentions that HE IS A GOOD KICK!!! Have I been watching someone else?
From memory he absolutely was a good kick at junior level. Couldn't translate to afl - under more constant pressure etc.

In juniors his speed would have given him space

In afl it buys you a second

You might find that breaking the two bones in the leg you plant to kick doesn't help that...

I imagine that struggling to stand upright because your head is so big also makes it difficult.

For some reason that made me think of this...

Like going through year 12 all over again.

Robbie Gray destroyed his leg , he is now one of the most agile blokes in the afl behind ablett
James Strauss obliterated his leg, and he's now set to be one of the most agile blokes in the EFL behind Gysberts.

Miracles do happen. Lift your game Bleasey.

Gray is a freak , but the one thing you would expect blease to lose was his speed and he never has

ACL, terrible but not leg destroying really - snapping your tibia and fibula in half (like Strauss and Blease) is literally destroying your leg.

Don't reckon the leg was the problem with his kicking

Blease would run full tilt and kick whilst still at full tilt

He never slowed down to compose himself before disposing of the ball, much like Ward used to

How come Other players who played afl didn't lose their ability to hit 15 metre targets ?
