I mean, if he was to fail the appeal. What is the penalty in case he isn't successful? If there is no trade off everyone would appeal.
There is no 'penalty' for a failed appeal.
You run the risk of it being graded as e.g. intentional instead of reckless.
The Match Review Panel classified Fyfe's strike on Hawthorn midfielder Jordan Lewis as intentional, low impact and high contact.
Fremantle accepted the classifications of low impact and high contact but unsuccessfully argued it should be graded reckless conduct instead of intentional.
If they e.g. challenged the 'low impact' it could have been upgraded to 'medium impact' by the tribunal and thereby a harsher penalty.
