Hi guys, wondering how Tom Nicholls is tracking. Do you know if he will be right to go at the start of the season? Thanks

What happened to Maysie??
I assume most of those in 'running only' are just niggles/light strains and are just precautionary. Also good to see neither of our ruckmen on the list for a change. I can't even remember the last time we had both Smith and Nichols fit and firing.

Yeah hopefully just looks worse than it really is. Will be more concerned if it hasn't improved by the start of the NAB games. For our season's sake I hope Maysie is OK. We need him fit if we are to make the finals. Dicko's ankle is going to be an issue for the rest of his career.

I'm told that Maysie isn't very serious. Will hopefully get an update from the club soon!

Also RE: the big injury list, a lot of those guys are being managed on special programs and being held back on purpose in order to not risk them at this time of the year. So it looks worse than it really is.

Update on May:
http://www.goldcoastfc.com.au/news/2015-01-29/may-undergoes-knee-surgery
Gold Coast SUNS defender Steven May has undergone minor knee surgery.

The 23-year-old had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Thursday morning after injuring it in a marking contest at training last week.

Despite the setback, May remained positive with the outcome.

“The specialist advised it was best for me to have a quick arthroscope and after the surgery, he was confident I'd be back on the track soon,” he said.

“Although I'll be sidelined for a few weeks, it’s actually a pretty good result.

“There was a chance the injury might have been worse and that would have put me in doubt for the start of the season, so to be honest, it’s a pretty good outcome.”

Senior coach Rodney Eade said the minor surgery wouldn’t hinder May’s preparations for the 2015 season.

“Pleasingly, the injury isn’t as serious as it could have been and we don’t expect Steven’s pre-season to be impacted too much given he has had a really strong summer,” Eade said.

“We anticipate he will resume running in ten days and full training in three to four weeks.”

Was looking at our list to see what kind of side we could put together if by some catastrophe our current injury list did not improve by Round One and was pleasantly surprised by the side I was able to put on paper. It would at least be competitive against most sides and shows our depth is improving. If ten of our regular firsts were out, plus a large number of depth players, we could still field a team such as -

B: S. Lemmens / J. Leslie / G. Broughton
HB: K. Kolodjashnij / S. Day / N. Malceski
C: M. Shaw / M. Rischitelli / J. Martin
HF: D. Stanley / P. Wright / J. Harbrow
F: T. Miller / Z. Smith / J. Garlett
R: T. Nicholls / D. Swallow / M. Hallahan
I/C: C. Cameron / A. Sexton / J. Lonergan
Sub: J. Glenn
E: J. Hall / A. Saad / T. Downie / L. Herbert / H. Schade / J. Ellis / K. Brooksby

Out: G. Ablett / H. Bennell / T. Lynch / L. Russell / T. McKenzie / D. Prestia / A. Boston / D. Gorringe / S. Tape / A. Hall / C. Dixon / R. Thompson / S. May / J. O'Meara / A. Raines / B. Matera / T. Sumner

The side is obviously very young and inexperienced but is still laden with talent. Twenty-one of the 22 also just ran a PB in their last 2km time trial. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the overall improved fitness of our list translates into matches this year. We should be able to maintain our attacking bursts for longer (which is a scary thought for most of the opposition) and also defend for longer and harder. Barring an unforeseen injury toll like that above, I'll be very disappointed should we not make the eight.

I hope Jesse Lonergan's ankle injury is only minor. I can only imagine how difficult it must be getting injured at training this close to the season after 4 months of pre-season.

Just on GC news - O'Meara is back running. Hasn't joined the main group yet but is in a race against the clock to be ready for round 1. There wasn't any strapping around his knees in the footage they showed.

What sort of running, Matchu? Laps?
The package showed him kicking a ball without strapping so I was unsure if it was old footage. They didn't really expand on it besides saying he is back running and should join the main group in the next few weeks. Jaeger said he was happy he got the surgery done now so it wouldn't affect him later in his career. It seemed like playing round 1 was a genuine possibility for him.

There's a whisper that Gary's shoulder is not healing as fast as it should be (yeah, yeah, old news). Rocket let slip today that Gaz has been unable to take a mark above his head and it sounds as if he had to miss the open day today to get it checked out.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is why his re-signing hasn't been announced yet.
