It's the reserves mate. Only parents and sad people worry over how the reserves go.

And people who have a lazy $20 on the SUNS to win the NEAFL grand final.

Got a feeling that ship has sailed . . .

FavoriteSun,

As a passionate NEAFL supporter - If you don't know what this League is, as some of your supporters on this thread are still talking about taking players from Southport to make your reserves a little more competitive - for the record Southport beat you guys every time they play you as the too are a part of the NEAFL Competition - This new Northern League was set up for your along with the 3 other Northern Side AFL Reserve Sides to give you and them a good standard of competition to improve your non senior playing group - it seems in the CG-Suns case this sure was a waste of time!!!!!!! Labrador and Broadbeach footy clubs along with Mt Gravatt and Morningside were demoted to the QAFL League to make this happen!!!!!!

For the sake of your footy club, you need to take a good hard look at this statement above - If this apathy is how you and your supporters think, then why have reserves and therefore a reserves competition? Why not just have an AFL list of 38 and 6 rookies and play them all on a rooster basis, this would make it fair, just like the under 8's so they all get a fair go at playing in the AFL.

Along with the Parents and the Sad people as you put it, you might want to ask your players currently playing in your reserves, how they think about it - you might be right they may not give a toss, as that seems to be the way they are playing at the moment. I am sure when your list gets cut at the end of the season, those players who don't or haven't had a crack playing reserve footy this year will be gooone!

But the reserves of any side be it AFL or F Grade is the side that strengthens the seniors each and every week, injuries, discipline, fitness and guys learning the game all benefit by playing reserve footy.

I seem to remember the only other side who played VFL footy out of Metricom who won a reserve's flag in the VFL some years ago, who then went on to become a power house in the 2000's, I would have thought any finals appearance albeit Seniors or Reserves would be cherished for the Suns after the amount of years your guys have been in the TAC Cup, VFL & AFL. As previously posted the only finals success seen by your club since its inception, was your GC-17 side against the Dennis Pagan coached Northern Knights in the TAC Cup Competition in their inaugural year, unfortunately they bowed out in the second week to a Josh Caddy led Geelong Falcons - As far as the trophy cabinet is concerned it is still bare, so IMO any success at any grade IMO sure would be a worthwhile step forward and a very important bond for your Footy Club. Good Luck but without a good reserve side you are doomed and currently 17 games for 0 wins is not a good result.

Your reserves team gives you a good insight into the depth and quality of your playing list. We've had a shocking run of injuries this season, but I also think we drop away a little too quickly outside our best 22.

I'm not discounting the performances of the other teams in the NEAFL. For Southport, Broadbeach, Mt Gravatt, Morningside etc it's your top level footy. That's where they are aiming for, or at least the guys who won't make it to AFL level. The Suns/Giants/Swans reserves side however have another level to work for. They're working hard on an individual level, but I doubt that the results matter as much for the team as much as the individual performance. If this was 2009 and we were still playing Prestia/Swallow/Smith in the VFL then i'd give it to you - that performance wouldn't be good enough nearly. But right now the goal is finals footy in the AFL side, the reserves side is not the priority.

Developing Josh Fraser as an assistant coach, rehabilitating players that are needed in the AFL side and keeping players who are under contract and aren't AFL quality in footy shape is what we're doing with our reserves side.

Anyone have a team sheet of who we have sent to play in Sydney today?

Josh Hall has gone down with the boys which is interesting enough. Good to see he is still involved at some level.

Surely the SUNS are not considering moving him on to the senior list?

Josh Fraser must be tearing his hair out. When our listed players chain possessions together we look great in the 2s.

When our top ups get their hands on it, we turn to absolute puss. Missed tackles, missed kicks and handballs. And not skills under pressure either. The top ups seem to be missing targets from no pressure at all.

He didn't have much left by the end of his playing days.

Some interesting best players there

Seb to maybe come back into the team. Karmichael to get his farewell game? Or perhaps even deciding game if his management speaks the truth that he has not made up his mind yet.

Jacko Allen deserves one last shot. Nothing to lose at the SUNS now

It's the first season of the new and improved NEAFL format. The competition has now left the ways of a two conferenced Northern and Eastern league and has now gone with a more traditional and hopefully competitive 14 team competition.

Good to see all of our home games are at Metricon stadium and the majority of them are curtain raisers to the big dance, giving fans exposure to the up and coming players.

Surely with the depth we will have next year we will start very close to premiership favourites?

Great final line OP

Queanbeyan, Belconnen and Sydney Hills Eagles have pulled out of the NEAFL comp next season - drops the league down to 11 teams.

Looks like they are going to have to restructure - again.

That's 10th, 11th and 12th on the ladder.

Current Southern Division
UWS
Sydney Swans
Ainslie
Sydney Uni
Eastlake

Current Northern Division
NT Thunder
Aspley
Redlands
Southport
Brisbane Lions
Gold Coast Suns

As it stands right now with 11 teams, play each other twice, 20 game season? or am I missing some logistics?

Nope don't be stupid. Makes too much logical sense for an AFL ran organisation to implement
