At the moment and over the next few years mens tennis in Australia is/looks more promising than the womens side. Not much coming through apart from Barty.
Bains has some promise, beat the world number 93 in Hobart qualifying pretty easily as a 16 year old.

I just witnessed Sam Stosur save two match points and go on to win the match. In Australia.

Is this real life?
Literally absolutely anything in the world could happen when Stosur plays, so I guess you could make that comment regarding her whole career!

C'arn Sanders (why oh why did your parents call you Storm)...

EDIT: Sanders takes the first. Regardless what happens from here, she's cleary not bad...

Sam winning very close matches must be helping surely....

Unbelievable effort by Storm, 7-6 in the 3rd against a top 20 player is incredible, going to be another one to watch for in 2014

It was a great effort by Storm. So close. saved so many match points with great shots as well. just never gave up.

could this be a turning point for Sam in Aus??? must surely help banish some demons with the last 2 matches both going to 3rd set tie breaks.

Only concern is that they were against the world 142 and no.54 ranked players.

Let see how she goes against Serbian bojana bonjanovski who is the no.8 seed. Bojana has a very weak serve but great ground strokes but Sam at her best would have no problems but still Sam is not at her best so anything can happen. What Sam needs is an easy straight sets victory then I will declare that she is back and will more then likely win Hobart.

The draw at the Aus open is very important too as Sam will be seeded 17 so if she gets through to the thrid round here are the following players Sam will not want to face.

Serena Williams
Victoria Azeranka
Maria Sharapova
Petra Kivitova
Jelena Jankovic

These players Sam has bad records against. On a positive note tho she has defeated all those players atleast once so that will give her confidence knowing that on her day playing her best she can beat anyone.

Sam will face 9-16 seeds in the 3rd round. Tbh, if she made it to the 3rd round that would be a success given how poor her record is

Did play much better today though

Stosur will be playing to reach her 4th straight final tomorrow. If only we could be talking about that statistic next week. She played better today, which was nice to see. Hoping she can build on the performance today and improve once again tomorrow.

Still an improvement on the past two years, you've got to admit playing in Hobart was a better choice than Sydney considering the circumstances. The way things are, three straight wins in an Australian tournament are a plus.
