Can someone please explain this pick 19. Gold Coast (received from Greater Western Sydney via a trade in 2012; traded to the Giants by Fremantle in 2011; originally received by the Dockers as compensation for Rhys Palmer)?

How it a pick from 2011/12 still hanging around in 2015?

When players were signed as part of the GC and GWS concessions they generated compensation picks similar to what free agents do today. Today's free agent picks are assigned in this year's draft and that's it. The GC/GWS compensation picks could be used at any point in the following five draft periods, as long as you nominated that year at the start of the year.

This is the last year the GWS picks can be used in, with the last GC picks expiring last year. There's only the one pick left - the Dockers got an end of first round pick for GWS signing Rhys Palmer. Fremantle traded that to GWS in exchange for a pick, who then on-traded it to GC as part of one of the minidraft trades. GC has to use it this year or it disappears.
