I'm gonna go with yes. People can say that we must be s**t if a 2nd year player with only 3 games to his name can come out and win it, but that's rubbish.
Murphy had a great year and if he beats him (it's going to be bloody close), it's purely because Cripps had an outstanding year himself. Even to be runner-up would be massive. I can't see it as anything other than a positive.

Would've thought that a club awards night would be compulsory for all players, with the odd special exception (weddings, family birthdays, medical reasons etc.).

You'd want the team celebrating each others achievements, not buggering off on a holiday if they think they're out of the running for a prize themselves...
