Like the look of Jordan Gallucci for Metro (Eastern Rangers)...Speed, poised & classy....Also Ben Ainsworth for Vic country (Gippsland); minds of a smaller version of Luke Hodge.....Shame their both under-agers.

Weitering, Schache & Collins all obvious first-rounders as KP players for Vic Country....McKay (Gippsland) in the ruck, raw but impressive.

Sorted.

This draft is supposedly pretty shallow, isn't it?

YEP...W/A & VIC METRO particularly disappointing.

All the class is from Vic COUNTRY, S/A & NSW this year.

Div 2 still hasn't kicked off yet...But likely to be a few gems in QLD & TAS....Though most of the QLD & NSW Guns are all Academy tied.:( ....Hence all the angst!

I know nothing about any player.

But I'll be an expert when we pick some unknown player who'll be our next Leigh Matthews.
There's always a bit of that. It helps following a club who have a proven record at developing picks from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round into premiership players.

Personally, I enjoy looking at who and what is available, and what we might make of them in our colours

Vics might need to make Tas & NT an academy to compete with the plastics?

All the advantages currently being had in the Northern States via their academy's, is the reason why club zoning has come back onto the agenda....As a plausible equalization measure, without doing away with the good development work of the academy's.

5 of the top 10 midfield guns in the up-coming draft are either Academy tied or A possible F/S....Combine that with the view that the 2015 crop is a shallow one at best & you can appreciate what all the bleating is about.

Tassie could provide for a zone, but only for one club given it's population....N/T use to be GWS tied, but could not of it's own provide for a whole zone.

Jack Silvagni booted six goals for Vic Metro on Saturday

NAB AFL Under-18s news, fixture & results

CARLTON father-son prospect Jack Silvagni kicked six goals to help Vic Metro to its first victory of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, beating Western Australia by 74 points.

With his father – Blues list manager and former great Stephen Silvagni – in the Domain Stadium stands, the 17-year-old showed his class and composure near goal with a strong display in Metro's 19.7 (121) to 7.5 (47) win.

His goals came from a range of spots inside 50, but the Oakleigh Chargers forward converted his shots well and also pushed a little further up the ground to gather 18 disposals and seven marks.

Silvagni, who doesn't turn 18 until December, returned to Metro's team after being rested last week and put together his most dominant game at under-18 level.

He is one of several father-son prospects available to the Blues this year, alongside Bailey Rice (the son of Dean) and Jake Bradley (son of Craig). Rice is also eligible to join St Kilda under the rule.

Stephen, who started his role at the Blues after being list manager at Greater Western Sydney during the club's inception, has already said he will play no part in the Blues' decision whether they nominate Jack as a father-son player at the end of the year.

Despite heading into the clash winless after three rounds, Metro proved too powerful for WA. Midfield pair Ryan Clarke (27 disposals and three goals) and Jade Gresham (26 disposals and a goal) were excellent, while Harley Balic continued his very good carnival with 20 disposals and nine marks.

Crafty small forward Hisham Kerbatieh kicked three goals, and Blake Hardwick and Callum Moore chipped in with two apiece for Metro.

Since winning its first game of the championships by a point, WA has been beaten by an average of 84 points the past three games.

Clint Hinchcliffe tried hard for his state, gathering 24 disposals and sending the ball inside-50 on six occasions, and Kade Stewart had 15 touches in his first game of the championships after recovering from a long-term leg injury.

Jordan Snadden also had 15 disposals through half-back and the midfield, while Greg Clark's athleticism took the eye at stages as he found 14 disposals and kicked a goal.

The division one title could be all but decided on Sunday when Vic Country plays South Australia at AAMI Stadium. If Vic Country wins, it will be almost unassailable in claiming this year's championship victory.

Rhys Mathieson starred in Vic Country's win over SA

NAB AFL Under-18s news, fixture & results

JOSH Schache kicked five goals and midfield pair Darcy Parish and Rhys Mathieson starred as Vic Country all but sewed up this year's division one title with a 28-point win over South Australia.

The Country trio led their side to the 13.13 (91) to 9.9 (63) victory at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, which pushed them two games clear of South Australia after four rounds of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

There is only two rounds remaining in the carnival, but Country has a healthy percentage and in round six faces the struggling Western Australia, who has lost its past three games at an average margin of 84 points.

Schache, a key forward likely to be an early selection at this year's NAB AFL Draft, was off target early in proceedings but found his rhythm as the game wore on and finished with 5.2 from 14 disposals and nine marks.

In his second game of the championships after missing the first two rounds with a broken thumb, Parish again underlined his class through the midfield by collecting 24 disposals.

Dynamic and with some dash, Parish is always looking to take the game forward, evidenced by his seven inside-50 entries.

His Geelong Falcons teammate, Mathieson, offers a more combative approach around the contest, and collected 23 disposals, four clearances and a goal as he pieces together a consistent carnival for Country.

Darcy Tucker (19 disposals) gave some drive off half-back and fellow North Ballarat Rebels prospect Jarrod Berry had 19 touches as he builds his credentials for next year's draft as a bottom-ager.

Country had a number of strong contributors across the ground, with Harry McKay also showing some exciting signs in attack. The 200cm Gippsland Power forward had 12 touches and kicked two goals, but gave recruiters more glimpses of his raw talent.

South Australia led at the first and second changes, before Vic Country booted six goals in the third quarter to set up the win.

SA captain Will Snelling was terrific with 32 disposals in a hard-fought display, and he also laid 10 tackles. Luke Partington was also effective with 30 touches, five marks and six tackles as he tried to keep his side in the game.

Riley Bonner's run off half-back (he had nine rebound 50s), Stephen Tahana's disciplined defending and Aaron Francis' class were among the other South Australians to take the eye.

Round five of the division one tournament starts on Friday, June 26, with the division two championships kicking off next Saturday on the Gold Coast.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA 2.1 5.5 6.6 9.9 (63)VIC COUNTRY 1.6 3.10 9.12 13.13 (91)

GOALSSouth Australia: Hoare 2, Allen, Bonner, Combe, Francis, Dew, Milera, Parella
Vic Country: Schache 5, McKay 2, Simpkin 2, Mathieson, Johnston, Cox, Ainsworth

BESTSouth Australia: Snelling, Partington, Bonner, Nunn, Tahana, Dew
Vic Country: Parish, Schache, Mathieson, Berry, McKay, Tucker

There's already a clear dividing line of top-end talent emerging thus far, for the 2015 Draft.

Weitering
Francis
Schache
Collins

These 4 talls are all guns & a lock for the top 10....The first 3 will likely comprise 1, 2 & 3 in the draft.

Partington
Parish
Mathieson
Tucker

These are the 4 High-end quality mids of the Draft & are all Top 10 Locks.

Mills
Keays
Hopper
Dunkley (F/S)
Kennedy

The Academy boys & Sydney F/S. All first rounders who will be bid-on prior to the conclusion of the first round...Meaning the Syds, GWS & Bris will all be forced to pay a heavy toll for them, in terms of forfeiting future picks.

There would then be upwards of a dozen lads vying for the Top 20, including;

Curnow
Burton
Ah Chee
Clark (W/A)
Parsons
McKay
Bonner
Clarke (VIC M)
Weideman
Skinner
Gresham
Tahana
Balic
Milera
O'kearney

Would love Curnow however its unlikely he will last past pick 10. The first uncompromised draft in years and its the thinnest and weakest in history!

If ever we are going to bottom out, next year is the year as it's said it could rival 2001..

Not sure how 5 of the Top-End talents being Academy/F-S tied renders this Draft uncompromised tige19....Also I believe that G/Coast still has an end of first rd compo pick up it's sleeve, which it must enact this year.

That's 6 of the Top 20 already spoken for....Given we finish anywhere near Top 4, then it's looking likely that we'll be trading our first pick away once again.

Still, the division 2 boys have yet to kick off as yet, so you never know.

I Like the athleticism & movement of both Clark & Parsons from the Eastern Rangers, who are highly skilled though predominantly outside mids.

Rhys Matheson may fall in our range. Kid is a clearance machine and is a real competitor.
Honestly haven't seen much of the kids this year but he was a standout in the carnival last year as a bottom ager. I also like the look of the little I have seen of Tom Cole

Mathieson won't last beyond pick 7....Best contested ball mid in this draft along with Partington....but a cleaner user of the ball than him.

Replays of rd 3 games are available in the U18 section of the AFL website.

Div 2 kicks off this W/end in Southport QLD. While div 1 has a weeks break.

Dunno why people are worrying about top picks for the draft this year. Don't you know it'll be used as currency for the Dangerfield deal ;)

I wonder how it'll play out in a few years from now when Longmire's son is at draft age - a Swans academy boy plus a North F/S pick....

Flynn in the ruck for NSW looks a good prospect....Wouldn't mind us pulling the trigger on him with a 2nd round pick....Young Gardner in defense for Tassie was good all day & really caught the eye.

Lovell 40+ possies, but alot of them were 1,2,3 hand-offs give-n-go style, ah-la Dane Swan....Has superior fitness but not sold on his poise/balance. A rookie at best for mine.

Flynn is a local kid up here - very nice bloke and a bloody handy footballer. Was my eldest boy's "buddy" when he started school. Would be great to see him in the brown and gold.

He's a big lad....All of 200cm & 100kgs & still won't turn 18 till September this year. From Narrandera I believe.

Given GWS will already have their hands full in securing both of Hopper & Kennedy, then it's definitely a possibility if we choose to go down that path in selecting another ruckman....We'll still need to bid for him I believe, though could be wrong on that.

Along with Parella 203cm, 104 kgs from Sturt in S/A, he projects as the best ruck prospect of all the U18 kids....Both have AFL ready builds on them & have 20kgs on Hipwood from Qld & McKay from Gippsland, the other 2 likely draft-able ruck lads, who will both require 3 years minimum development in the gym to make it.
