2015 Fantasy Tennis Comp

The fantasy comp from last year is back, this year we'll be doing the Grand Slams, Masters 500 & 1000 & WTA Premier events. Basically it is like dream team for tennis, you pick a team of players who think you will do well. There are exceptions to this, you can't just pick Nadal, Djokovic and all the top guys. You have take different players from different rankings groups. Here you have a team of 7 men and 7 women and you must select from the following:

- 1 player from the top 5
- 2 players from the top 6-20
- 2 players from the top 21-50
- 2 players from 51+

Men's Rankings: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/Singles.aspx
Women's Rankings: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/Singles.aspx

Then depending on how they do in tournaments and how much ranking points each player gets, that is totalled up to get a score and this is what we use for this comp. Here is an example of who you might select and what points you might get (using Aus Open 2013 results):

Top 5 Player: Djokovic (Winner: 2000)
Top 6-20 players: Wawrinka (4th round: 180), Tsonga (QF: 360)
Top 21-50 players: Seppi (4th round: 180), Hewitt (1st: 10)
Top 51+: Matosevic (1st: 10), Kubot (1st: 10)

So 2000 + 180 + 360 + 180 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 2750 points for that.

Now you select your team for the season but there were be times during the season to be able to change your team if wanted. Any week there isn't a WTA Premier or Masters 500/1000 on you will be able to change After the Australian Open will be the first opportunity to change your team for the February bunch of tournaments. I will post a list of weeks that your team would be open for change later but now your team is for the Australian Open.

The one other catch is that we use the rankings as of at that current time. But say if your player goes from 9 to 5 when you can change , you are allowed to keep that player or change to a different top 5 player, so effectively your top 6-20 pick becomes a top 6-20 pick. Same thing if the reverse happens, if your top 5 player sneaks out of the top 5 to the top 6-20 then you have to pick a player from that ranking (and effectively stuck with 3 top 6-20 picks). So choose wisely.

Prize: There will be a prize this year. Something tennis related and will be a mystery. Still got to sort a prize for 2014.

Make your team up by 10.59am Monday 19th January when the Open begins with 7 men and 7 women you have selected. Hope you get involved as it's a bit of fun for all involved.

Rankings on Monday will have her in 6th place. Wozniacki above her pretty sure.
Then you shouldn't be able to have Wozniacki in 6-20 should you? Otherwise you could start off with two players in the top 5, possibly more.

Not sure anyone read my post in the other thread so I'll repost. Obviously too late now but just an idea for next year. How would people feel about a draft where players are unique to each poster. We could still have regulations for rankings to keep lesser players relevant. Just think it would be more skillful and interesting. I really shouldn't be beating the knowledgeable people in here merely with fantasy nous.

Also we need a ruling from matt_897 on rankings. That live site appears to strip Aus Open points earlier than it should. Eg. Azarenka at 68.

John Isner is ranked 18, he needs to be a top 21-50 player.
