2015 Fixture - Abuse the AFL here

People who bemoan the death of saturday arvo AFL don't realise how much better it is for local footy.

Scheduling one Saturday afternoon game wouldn't kill local footy though, would it?

I loathe the twilight slot.

Also, I hope the AFL doesn't do what the NRL did and schedule Monday night games.

So week 1 against Sydney, in Sydney..

Well couple of positives:
Sydney are 'notorious' for slow starts.. GWS picked them off Round 1 this year
We are a good travelling side
We have all pre-season to replicate the Hawks game plan to smash them
We should have a fit list ready to play
IF 'doomsday' occurs then it is a game that we were likely to lose anyway.. so nothing to lose for the 'second string'
If we win.. it will create a bucketload of momentum for the season

Negatives:
Farking sick of playing Sydney in Sydney (almost as bad as Adelaide in Adelaide every single year)
Could be a demoralising loss off the bat.. leading to the inevitable Caro article "Hird must go and Thompson must replace him"
Tough assignment first up that could set the tone for the season
Any and all mistakes will be punished

Don't mind playing Sydney first up at all, they are usually slow starters and we have been jumping out of the blocks the last few seasons. ANZ is not as daunting as the SCG either and an away win against a quality side could really instill a lot of confidence and gain momentum for the year ahead.

Hopefully he gets in a bit of strife over the off season and cops a club ban then, he does have a habit of pulling out of games against us, only played against us twice in 4 years suprisingly.

Before that it was 2006 versus Sydney.

Before that, 2000 against Port.

So this will be two Round 1 home games in the past fifteen seasons.

Sydney and Hawthorn back to back... great way to start the season. Get two big scalps early and then mow down the rest...

IF the whole 6 month back dated deal thingo happens, it's an ideal start to the season for us. The 2 games where we'd have players missing would be against teams that most would have us losing anyway so they become games where the 2nd string team have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

If we have our list available and win them, it sends a clear message.

We were going to have to play the Swans and the Hawks anyway, rounds 1 and 2 are probably the best time to do it. We've been fast starters and it's our best chance and catching them sleeping.
