2015 Fixture

Rucci was saying tonight on sport day that Richmond and Melbourne will start a standard annual clash on ANZAC eve. Seriously, Melbourne and ******* Richmond!

If ever there were two sides undeserving of any ANZAC game it is Richmond and Carlton. The you have the ******* essendrug playing on ANZAC day itself.

I cant be bothered reading through the whole thread, and if I'm going over stuff previously discussed, then sorry. I can't seem to see any talk about our first home game next year. Kochie said a number of things on sunrise which pointed pretty clearly that it will be against the Swans. This is great for the club as Kochie can get all the sponsors and the sunrise team over for the game and no doubt lift the profile of the club even higher. Hopefully they have big plans for that opening game (INXS reunion minus Michael Hutchinson, Rudimental - too hopeful?). It would have been great to have had it on a Friday night but given that we are in Perth sunday night the previous week it wont happen, hopefully its on the saturday night or saturday twilight.

Hard to argue with Melbourne, GWS, Adelaide, Suns not being a fairly soft starting draw. That's 3 of bottom 5 teams
I am not saying it was not a soft start, when looking back (hindsight). I am questioning the notion that it was done for us. All the experts had us finishing in the bottom 4 with Melbourne, Suns and Adelaide were supposedly set up to beat us. Melbourne were tipped to be top 8 and hence were to beat us in the first game. Melbourne were given us for momentum, not the other way around. History tells us different, that is, it provided us with momentum.

Anyone expecting a trip down to Geelong after only a one year break from not playing there?
I don't think that's the sort of game that's locked into our fixture at AFL level. It's one of the "fill in the empty spots" games after about 14 or so games are locked in. We could go there for three years in a row, or vica versa for all I know.

The reason for this is something to do with Vic clubs not wanting to travel in the last round before finals (so they all play each other) and the Adelaide/Perth teams will play each other. It would have made more sense for derbies to be played but the teams didn't want to play such a high intensity match before finals.

A bit precious, aren't they? Why should the Vic clubs have the alleged advantage of not travelling before finals? Not that it is an advantage; as we have seen with our and with Hawthorn's performances, perceived disadvantages just raise our level of intensity. Or as Nietzsche would say :

"what does not kill me makes me stronger."

Really, so they get the 1st game at home and the Showdown at home as well they had the last home Showdown.

So much for EARNING a good draw... AFL hypocrites.
We had the first home game this season, just happened to be a showdown. We will play the opening game in 2016.

The whole 'earning' a good draw is just afl bullshit - doesn't apply to Victorian teams who play shithouse.

That's the way the system has always worked, except for this last year because we did all the legwork on Adelaide Oval. Crows and Port have always alternated who started the season at home, and also alternated who gets the first home Showdown. Because we got it first last year, they will go first this year. It's nothing new.

The ANZAC rd home game v Geelong still looks to be a possibility as the GWS missed out getting Geelong for a game in Canberra that weekend. The Quinn Cup might still happen on the 25th or 26th Lockhart Road

The GWS Giants have seemingly missed out on luring a big Victorian club to Canberra for Anzac Day, but there could be some consolation with AFL powerhouse Geelong pencilled on their draft 2015 fixture at Manuka Oval.

Gold Coast are shaping as the Giants' likely opponents for the historical 2015 Anzac Day game, which will be played as a twilight fixture after the Essendon-Collingwood blockbuster at the MCG.

GWS are also likely to play their first two home games at Manuka, possibly in round two and certainly in round four, given their Sydney base will be out of action because of the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The Giants and the ACT government had been lobbying the AFL for a big Victorian club on Anzac Day, which will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli, with Geelong and back-to-back premiers Hawthorn their preferred opponents.

While that bid seems to have failed, it's likely Geelong will play its first game in the ACT since it beat North Melbourne at Manuka in 2006.

Whoever finishes bottom the previous year should go to WA for the last game.

Sorted.

Correct - but the afl whinge its all too hard. Thats crap. First thing they should do when making the FIXture is set out which Wa team plays at home in rd 1 which in rd 2. They then rotate them each week so that neither of them has back to back away travelling games. Nexf should be the wooden spoonef gets slotted in as fhe away team in the final round. Then they slot in ANZAC day collingwood v essendon. There you go Bob is your uncle within minutes of starting ths process.

Short memory. We haven't played in Perth Rd 1 since 2007 - great win and start to the year at a venue we have more than a 50% win loss ratio. Last time we played the final game of the year in Perth before last year, was 2006 and it didn't matter as we only won 8 games that year. Rd 22 2013 was the second last round for the year - we played Carlton the week after at Footy Park with our Magpies jumper.

Round 1 in Perth: 2005, 2007 and 2015. 3 times in 11 years mate. There's 18 (previously 16) teams in the comp mate.

According to Geelong Addy this morning - Cats fixture contains:

- 8 games at Simonds Stadium
- 2 MCG home games vs Hawthorn and Collingwood and 1 ES home game vs Carlton
- Only 5 interstate trips (another article in the AGE mentions GWS at Manuka is one of them)
- Will play Adelaide, Collingwood, Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Sydney twice

Going by this, we might not have a trip to Geelong in 2015 since there's rumors of us playing them at home in Round 4 for ANZAC Round. (Round 4 will be ANZAC round, yes or no?)

Yes ... round 4 is Anzac round next year... Our home game

Expecting double up games against Sydney, the Hawks and Freo. And two trips to Perth.

Perth in rd 1 might be a blessing as Ken likes to hit rd 1 at full speed. We might be able to get Freo before they are up and going.

2015 is our 19th season in the AFL so we are into our 2nd rotation period of playing Freo in Perth in rd 1. Those 3 games you stated are the only games we have played so we are only one out of rotation. Hardly a massive bias against us by the AFL.

Since 1997 we have played the 1st round in WA three times and the final round twice. 1997-2014 is 18 seasons so of 36 bookend games we have been to WA 5 times. Which, because only one AFL game is played in WA every week, means that the other teams in the AFL between them have played 31 first round/final round games. 14% to us, 86% to 15-17 other teams. Slightly lopsided?

13 to 14 other teams (Freo and West Coast don't count). But I get your point. It's also skewed because historically the interstate clubs have travelled to Perth more often than Victorian based clubs (particularly the big clubs). Some years we have two trips to Perth, whereas clubs like Collingwood will only go once every year. For example, since 2010 we have been to Perth 7 times since 2011, whereas Collingwood have been only 5 times.

so apparently in the 1st month of the season we'll be playing Fremantle then in no particular order, Adelaide, Sydney and Hawthorn... WTF!

Going to ask, I hope the Hawks get a similar draw as they've just gone back to back.
