Come on mate, if Greenwood was still at North he would be picked every single week without fail.

Of course he would, he said he'd be one of the first picked, he wouldn't.

Would have been in the first 6 picked I would imagine. Most clubs would have 12-14 players who would be the first picked anyway, they would be locks to play every single week.

Do you even comprehension?

HE said HE felt he wasn't a lock for our best 22. Read the article.
So instead of working harder to ensure he'd be a lock, he decided to take the money and run to Collingwood where he thought he'd have more security because they don't have many good players to keep him out.
The article says he never felt comfortable about holding his spot, not that he shouldn't have been a lock in the best 22. He was third in the North BnF, and was one vote off winning it, and him thinking he still needed to earn his spot is a pretty poor reflection on Norths player management rather than a reflection on Greenwood's ability or form. He is a significant loss particularly when you think of the years that were invested in his development and now they have lost him for nothing just as he has proven his worth.

The other part of the North equation is the recruitment of Waite and Higgins who IMO are two highly talented players. The problem with both of them is that across the course of their careers they have both been injury prone and under achieved against the talent they have.

Now North has Waite, another 30+ player in a list already with its fair share of them. If he kicks 40+ goals this year or next and North in a GF, then it will be a stroke of genius. If not, he will have just stolen some games from a couple of younger developing players such as Brown and/or Black. In two years when Petrie and Waite are retired, these players may be under developed as a result, if they haven't already left through lack of opportunity.

Higgins is probably young enough to have been worth the gamble, probably a reasonable enough replacement for Greenwood at a similar point in his career. Only time will tell whether or not his body will hold up, but if you consider Greenwood was not a lock in your best 22 then this guy is just outside your best 22 until proven otherwise.

Greenwood has had one good season in what 5. Surely North have gone above there duty to look after him. After his only decent year he takes the money and runs. Hardly Norths fault.

Reading through the comments and Hawks fans constantly reminding us of their outs during a freaking pre season game.
Did it endlessly when they lost to Port last year but conveniently forget they got to a premiership coz other sides in 2013 were ravaged with injury.
Can you imagine the tears if the Hawks had players out in a final

Really, you're labouring a point that should have been left to die an natural death at least ten posts ago. Let it go. No one in Pie World suggests that we're on the way to bigger glories this year, and we all know that Hawthorn are in the hunt. But the Pies right now are in a certain phase of their development, one where it's all about the kids, and from what we saw tonight the kids are alright. We might not have had as many of our best 22 missing, true enough, but the fact is that Collingwood is a team still searching for most of its best 22. What we saw tonight was some good prospects and no injuries, and that's quite a fantastic way to open the year. No amount of cheap and seemingly embittered sniping will remove that fact.
Hey JB, what do you think you are doing, coming on a thread and making "perfect sense". The fact that you are new to this, I will give you the benifit of the doubt that you will soon learn that that is not how this things work:). Also with intelligent and concise comments, you make the rest of us magpie supporters look bad, if you keep it up, they may expect it from the rest of us.
In all honesty though, well said.

Excellent post and spot on, it is only effectively a practice game.
Most of the over the top celebrations or over-rating of the win probably stem from the relief of not having to read more, (mindless) posts about how Bucks has lost the players.
That for me is the most pleasing part, a team that had a go regardless of the circumstances and played the way the coach wanted them to play.

the argument being made was that Greenwood was not a lock (or did not feel he was a lock) for best 22 which was stated as such in the quoted article. Therefore, North supporters (or at least one) think he is no big loss. The point remains that he was close to BnF in a year that North showed improvement. If you read the full discussion, the point I was responding to had nothing to do with money, whether that is the real reason he left or not (even if I do agree that this is the likely reason).

One or two posters have posted about the outs.

No more than any other sides poster's would.

Collingwood fans can't be serious carrying on about a NAB challenge win surely?

Who is carrying on? A few people happy with their youngsters, a few people taking the piss and a few trolls in this thread. That is all.

We all understand that the match means close to nothing, but it's nice to see the progress of our youngsters.

Im reading posts by Collingwood supporters that think Greenwood is better than Beams.
