Ryan Clarke would be ideal. Perfect mix of hardness and good skill set. If he is available at our second pick we should snap him up without fuss

The Roos appear to have two main list holes to address: a key forward to eventually replace Drew Petrie and Jarrad Waite; and outside run and class given Brent Harvey, Daniel Wells and Nick Dal Santo are fast nearing the end of their careers. North seems to have missed out on its No.1 trade target, Greater Western Sydney on-baller Adam Treloar, but is believed to lead the race to lure out-of-contract Bomber swingman Jake Carlisle away from Tullamarine. Acquiring Carlisle could allow the Roos to use fellow talls Robbie Tarrant and Lachlan Hansen more flexibly. North has been active in the free agency market in the past two seasons but has not been strongly linked to any of the remaining players in this year's pool. Out-of-favour forward Aaron Black and support ruckman Dan Currie are two Roos who could request trades in the hope of more senior opportunities at a new club. - Nick Bowen

First selection: Pick 11-14

Cal Twomey says: One of the best things about Harley Balic is he can play in three different parts of the ground: as a half-back, midfielder and half-forward. That creativity and competitiveness would suit North well if Balic was still available at the Roos' first pick. He's got some star quality, and no team has too much of that. Riley Bonner's form off half-back and Jade Gresham's skill in the midfield also warrant discussion.

Harley Balic would be awesome.

Balic would definitely scratch an itch in terms of needs and when that itch arises it must get scratched pretty quickly.

Well it should be interesting who we get mind you I can see all our draft picks playing in the VFL State Delvelopment Leauge next season as with 1 team and 10 Werribee players playing 1st and with 22 in the AFL playing for North well you can work at the maths?

Maybe apart from Bennell, we are looking increasingly like (from all reports) keeping our first round selection for this years draft.. Whats everyone thinking? For me we need outside speed/class as a combination first and foremost over key falls (as we have two of them waiting in the wings).. Assuming we have pick 15-18 and if they're still available i'd look at Harley Balic, Ryan Clarke, Callum Ah Chee, Sam Weideman (even though he is a tall) and possibly Jade Gresham

Ben keays is a very nice natural footballer!

His dad and I won a few premierships together in school footy and are life long mates. Ben's a ripper and will be a very good academy selection for the Lions. He has a younger brother who's also good. Old man Matt Keays is as proud as punch, as you would be.

What a small world! Thanks for the inside knowledge!

17: North Melbourne – Wayne Milera
Height: 185cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 14/09/1997
Recruited from: Central Districts
Draft Range: 10-30

Shifted to a more permanent midfield role in the SANFL in recent weeks and has taken to it like a duck to water. Exhilarating talent who cuts through players like they’re witches hats. Kicks super important goals and collects an elite amount of football by position as a forward. Has class and composure by the bucket-load and always salutes with the ball. Decision making rates elite for this speedy talent.

36: North Melbourne – Aidyn Johnson
Height: 184cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 31/10/1997
Recruited from: Bendigo Pioneers
Draft Range: 30-50

Oozes excitement and class and rarely has a bad day out. Can be a bit patchy now and then, but his possessions are of serious quality. Hindered by injuries this year, but has shown in the past to be an explosive forward/midfielder with a goosestep that allows him to create space in which he can dart into. Loves to give and get and his link up work is of real highlight. Will test at the combine is my mail.

51: North Melbourne – Jesse Glass-McCasker
Height: 198cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB: 03/01/1997
Recruited from: Swan Districts
Draft Range: 30-undrafted

Tall, strong defender who plays predominately as a stopper. Covers the ground well, and has a sturdy athletic profile. Has shown he can swing forward and provide a target deep forward, and looms as a designated swing-man at AFL level. Positions himself nicely in a one-on-one battle, isn’t shifted under the ball and times his leads nicely. Isn’t afraid to take a mark in defence and conversely up forward he is good overhead. Really rate his spoiling game, and his ability to drop off his man to kill a contest elsewhere.
