I had cash on Cowboys and obviously had a nice collect, so this won't sound like sour grapes.

I thought Paul Green's coaching was utterly sub par. Scott was off at the start of the second half for the first 11mins, Tamou the first 17mins and Granville (was on target for the Clive Churchill he was playing that well) was on the sidelines for 21 MINUTES!!! These players off while you're 2 then 4pts down are you kidding me!!

What was he thinking? Paul Green should not be now thought of as a master mind because he did everything possible to let Bronco's win it. I'm totally staggered at the players he left on the sidelines for so long. Once those players were on the park, by that stage they had to play risk football because they were running out of time.

I rate the coach a 4/10 and it was all the players.
None of that really mattered though did it. If the bench is playing well then they deserve to stay on the field for longer than usual. Just because Scott, Tamou and Granville were off for longer than usual doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do. The Cows had most of the momentum in the second half and we just tried to fall over the line, and it didn't work.

I'll be honest, I was referring to the supremely overrated 1989 VFL Grand Final.
Funny story

Was watching 89 Vfl GF with a familty from Geelong.
My dad stumbles in shitfaced at 3qt ( after having seen about 2 minutes of the 1st qtr ) and says " Geez Abletts been quiet......"

I don't profess to knowing everything but I do know one thing, you don't have Granville sitting on the bench for 21mins while Morgan then plays D/Half. Just because Cowboys won you can't dismiss this screw up. You have those 3 players on from the start of the second half, you may not have to hope for an out of the box last minute win.

You say 'none of that really mattered did it'.....are you saying it only matters if they lost. Rate Green's performance out of 10 after I've highlighted who he left on the bench and got a lucky last 'second' win? I repeat...I was on the Cowboys, won money but still thought it was an ordinary performance from the coach.

None of it mattered at all, not just because they won. The game is about momentum, just like AFL just like any sport. If your bench players are performing, why take them off? They are there to come on, give a spark and do a job. No point taking them off if the team has the momentum (like the Cowboys had for most of the second half).

The game wasn't about the coaches decisions imo, it came down to the players and we saw what happened at the end. Bennett brought Nikorima on too early in the second half and he had no impact. Still, that didn't decide the game. Brisbane tried to win the game on their defence and it failed. Our attack was shithouse most of the game apart from Milford. Hunt was absolutely horrendous and he will have nightmares about his errors until we win a premiership again.

What a crazy game of football. The last 20 minutes plus extra time was as intense as sport gets. Felt horrible for Hunt as has been such a good player for the Bronco's and was good all night up until that play.

Granville was the best player on the park. Not even a question IMO. Why the * he was left off the field for so long was outrageously stupid. Playing two specialists hookers these days is stupid. It was a selection blunder. If your hooker needs a rest that's fine, but he needs to be replaced by a utility he can play elsewhere on the field. But playing two hookers means the coach is somewhat compelled to give minutes to the back up hooker otherwise it feels like you are wasting a player. Would love to see how much time Granville was on the bench. Must have been at least 30 minutes. Almost cost them the game.

JT was always going to get the Clive Churchill. He's the big name. There was the romanticism behind it. But it wasn't his best game. He wasn't poor by any means (the drop that lead to the try aside).... He threatened all night long and looked dangerous, but aside from one run from deep inside his own half he never really broke the line or set anyone up to break the line. Obviously he also coughed up the ball the lead to Brisbane's second try.

A pretty good game from JT, but Granville was the clear best. When he was on North Queensland went forward and looked dangerous. When he was off they had no momentum.

How the * North Queensland scored the last try will never be answered. Complete balls-up by the Brisbane defence. One play to defend, with absolutely nothing doing from the Cowboys... Insane.

They should've given the Churchill Medal to Ben Hunt just to troll him further after his heart was already broken. :(
He's had a magical season. Has established himself as one of the premium halfbacks in the game. Today, he saved his worst for last. His kicking game was poor all game. The only time it was right is when he kicked the ball out 20-25 metres out to slow the play down in the last 20 minutes. The errors explain themselves. I know people never like blaming one player for a loss, but the lifting tackle penalty he gave away, which led to the try, then the knock on from the kick off to start golden point which led to a premiership being thrown away by the Broncos, won't help him sleep very good for a while.

He will learn from it and fix his mistakes.

Hahaha I'm thinking if Scott, Tamou and Granville were on from the start of the second half, not only would've you got momentum out of them, you would've got points on the board. You're saying Cowboys had all this momentum yet didn't hit the score board until the 80th minute.

What ever momentum they had wasn't created by the 3 players in Scott's, Tamou's or Granville's positions. You have those 3 on at the start of the second half it would've been lights out. Hence Green's decision to leave these players off the field gave Broncs every chance in the world to win it.

It was a bad move by Green and that's a fact.....win lose or draw (or all in this case). You defend Green all you like but it could've possibly robbed them of the premiership that 'the players' won.

Yes... that doesn't mean they didn't have the momentum though does it o_O. We barely got close to scoring all second half. The Cows had a number of chances to score but didn't, but still had everything going for them they just didn't put it on the scoreboard.
