I went down to training with my young fella for a bit. MJ was walking laps and made sure to say hello making a fuss of my 8 yo, well done MJ.
A couple of things I noticed that haven't been mentioned:
Morra has a noticeable limp favouring his right side and looks a fair way off IMHO. He ran only a few laps then disappeared.

Sutcliffe can kick the footy. I watched him during the kicking drills/circle work - he really stood out.
Tanner also looked good hitting all his targets albeit with a slightly awkward kicking action. I have hope for him this year.

Fyfe and Barlow ran a heap of run throughs at about 3/4 pace and then pumped out lap after lap maintaining the speed. I got puffed watching them.
That sounds feasible pelican. Good to hear about Tanner Smith. If he turns out to be a good player our backline will be set for years to come,as I have high hopes for Alex Pearce and the Irishman.

De Boer would have a better extraction and center square ability than Crowley as well. If he could take on the tutelage of Kirk and develop his game in a similar fashion I can see a role for De Boer in the team.

Looking forward to seeing the "MJ Red Scooter" on the Fremantle team store website, along with colored weights and cardboard face masks of the regular training watchers to ensure the players feel at home on game day. Im picturing thousands of Fred Ziffel, Salim Malik, Sheriff, Harry Reems and E Shed masks in the crowd, resulting in a Jason Webber permanent death stare.

Yeah, look that's all good but I should clarify. I didn't get a death stare or a glare, as such.
I'm now of the view Webb was admiring my pure leather , Australian made Akubra.

I will however, ask Jason next week , just to settle the knockers on here.
I must add though that I was not in the way of the players. In fact nobody was near me when I lifted the coloured weights.
It has to be the hat.

Red Cross second hand shop and then Manna,s are next door and on the other side of Abhi,s is a side street.
Dont know where you were but dont think it was Abhi's .
The shop was on the corner of Nelson St and South Tce. If it's not Abhi's I'm back in Melbourne now and so can't rectify my mistake. Will have to wait for next time.

I always take my binoculars down to training, and providing I stand with Bluey and Groundskeeper Pat on the fence or sit next to "Fabulous Phil" Corello in the under croft, I don't have any problems with the death stare or questioning from anyone.

Sneaking into a closed session at Patersons, well that's different.

Picture this, me sneaking into Patersons through an unlocked door then hiding in the toilets for 4 hours as I lay in wait.

Then I tip toe carefully into the arena once training starts and take a seat somewhere where I won't be spotted.

Suddenly the urge for a Bratwurst roll with sauerkraut, onions and Bavarian mustard sees me leave my seat only to blow my cover.

Jason didn't have to say anything that day as the look on his face said it all.

I then escorted my self out the front gate.

How long until watchers become a nuisance at training?

Now I don't believe the sun shines from the Hawks-clash-colour orifice of everyone at the Fremantle Football Club, I also don't believe we fans are their equals – or mates – or really wanted.

Someone'll end up getting chipped about it.

PM me for odds. Got some juicy ones and some smokeys that look cherry ripe for a $50 plunge.

I've been down to training many times and the training watches sit their quietly under a fig tree and watch on. Some are often greeted with a nice smile or 'how ya goin' today guys' from Crowls and co. This is not intrusive at all. The coaches have never asked 'fans' to leave however Freo do have some closed to public sessions at Subi oval or maybe 1 or 2 times a season at Freo oval.

Not one poster I have met there has interfered in anyway and to say fans aren't wanted is ridiculous. That's what clubs need so they can survive. You're creating an issue that doesn't exist.

Training Report

No signs of Sonny Walters, Lachie Neale, Zac Clarke, Tanner Smith, Nat Fyfe, Micky Barlow, Michael Johnson, Crowls or Nick Suban today.
Better late than never here's my 2 cents - Johnno was there in Civvies - he was moving VERY gingerly. Fyfey rolled up in his shiny SUV later on - also in Civvies. Didn't spot any others.

Of interest was Apeness doing 1 on 1 ruck drills with one of the Coaches, then doing more ruck drills with Tabs and the coach.

Hurley is a big unit!

Sandi's toes look like they've been repeatedly hit with small sledge hammers.

My buddy (Mayney) was moving well in stark contrast to this time last year.

I think that's it.

MJ replacement better be ready to play from round one, doesn't sound like Johnno will be ready till mid season
break. Mayne may be required down back to help out.

Not out there off the top of my head were Johnno, McPharlin, Fyfe, Clarke and Walters although I am bound to have missed some.

I saw Sutty for the first time this pre season- he came out about half way through the session along with Subes, Lachie, Mundy, Tanner, Hurley and Duffy and ran laps. Lachie looks like he is even bigger than last season. They joined Sandi, Sylvia and Barlow who were doing laps from the start. Colin got a bake from Ross as he sat down in the dugout for a break in the shade between one of his runs. That prompted Ross to yell "Sylvia get up now" followed by a "Come on run" once he got going again.

Ross was happy with a lot of the work done today in the 1st drill I saw when I got there which was working the ball out of a crowded back line. The group I saw had a lot of the senior boys in there and they were often being praised by Ross for a good bit of play.

I loved Duffield's work today. In the 7 a side drills they do, him and Mayne worked with 1st and 2nd year players and once that was finished Duff pulled the young blokes in and had some words with them. Blakely impressed me during the drill with some great passes and I don't think he missed one. Brady was also very good. I'm Moller's biggest critic but he was very good skill wise during this drill although it's not his skills that I don't rate.

Sherro is a running machine. The group did laps at the end with Sherro, Mzungu and DeBoer in the 1st group and they streaked ahead of everyone. They were that quick once they got to about 3/4 of the way around the ground one of the fitness guys called out to them to ease up a bit. 10 seconds doesn't seem like much but there was only about 10 seconds difference between groups 2, 3 and 4.

Duffy, Barlow and Neale resumed running today but no ball or contact work. I haven't seen Fyfe but was told he was out doing some running before training today. Son Son nobody seems to know what is wrong with him.

Now this... Is the most awesome thing I've read in the preseason training reports so far.

The ability to pitch Clarke out to the wafl when he's stinking it up in the forward line? Priceless!

Getting quite worried about Mora. He needs a full Pre-Season and if he can't get going soon he could end up playing the whole season for Peel again.
The season doesn't start until April next year - a much later start will allow for those not really hitting their straps until after Christmas to still have time for essentially a "full pre-season".

I think for Mora its more about building him up to the start of the year for now. Not completely smashing him with the pre season. All he has done basically for the past 4 years is train and rehab. It must be hard for him to think about all that training and rehab for very very little games in return. Its not as if he is in bad shape.
