2nds 2015 VFL Reports

Would like to see Lachie given a good month in the magoos to regain touch and match fitness, which would see him back by Round 9.

Durdin seems very promising and Preuss could be anything by the sound of things. Promising for our future.

Durdins 4 disposals rewarded with being named second behind Sewell in the bests for the Roosters in todays VFL report in the Hun
Ed Vickers Willis got the 6 votes on the VFL website for 5 disposals

They played on Daw and Black respectively. Vickers-Willis was a bit lucky but Durdin thoroughly deserved his place in the bests.

Of course you're not, they don't play for opposition clubs.

That's not very nice.

McMahon, Currie, Warren - All are no good. You shouldn't have three blokes who you know won't be AFL standard before the season even starts. I understand that Currie is needed for this year.

Durdin - Very polarising player pre-draft. A worry to me that they 100% planned to use him as a KPF and have moved him already but it's very, very early.

Black - Could still be a good player for us.

McKenzie - He's ok. Think he's still got steady improvement in him but he's limited physically.

Daw - Quite like him but can't help but worry about the court case.

Vickers-Willis - Think he'll be solid but doesn't have any outstanding attributes.

Preuss - Love the idea of having a big project ruckman.

And.......

???? :p

And.......

???? :p

Well Beef Vindaloo and Doogie Howser M.D. can certainly hold their own - Vindaloo can connect and the hit by Doogie Howser on his opponent could be heard up on the hill!
In a spiteful last quarter there were spot-fires starting up across the ground with actual punches thrown and not this jumper punching crap!
The semi trailer also got stuck in helping to remove a few players from the ground, bit of a loose unit that one!

It was lucky this game was played at Port Melbourne and not Frankston, as there would have been a ground invasion from the stands, but the Port locals were close to invading!

Happy now naturally north ? :D

Match Result: Werribee 15.10.100 defeated Port Melbourne 12.16.88
Venue:
North Port Oval
Conditions:
Perfect for football. Breeze to one end.

In action:
- Majak Daw (17 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals)
- Lachlan Hansen (14 disposals, 11 marks, 4 tackles)
- Ed Vickers-Willis (12 disposals)
- Scott McMahon (12 disposals)
- Daniel Currie (8 disposals, 48 hit-outs, 1 goal)
- Will Fordham (16 disposals)

Match-ups:
- Currie v Josh Purcell
- Vickers-Willis v Hugh Sandilands

Story of the game:
In perfect conditions, Werribee burst out of the blocks with a four goal to one first quarter away from home.

Port Melbourne fought back with the breeze in the second term, reducing the margin to just ten points at the main change.

A five goal premiership quarter saw the Tigers out to a handy 24-point lead, but the job wasn’t done yet.

“They (Port Melbourne) had the wind in the last quarter and gave us a bit of a scare, but then we fought back pretty strongly and had a really gutsy win,” Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown said.

Werribee held on by two goals for its second victory of the season.

Points of interest:
1. Majak Daw pushed his case for a senior call-up with a best afield performance.

Daw finished with 17 disposals and booted three goals.

“He was the story of the day really. He was brilliant,” Brown said.

“Some of his marking was absolutely spectacular. It was a bit of a highlight reel today.”

One play in particular stood out for the North big man.

“He ran past two blokes on the wing with blistering speed, tapped the ball out in front of himself, fended off the first bloke, got around the next one, ran another ten metres then put a short pass inside 50 to a leading teammate," Brown explained.

"The whole crowd was really on their feet when he was on the ground."

2. Lachlan Hansen took another step forward in his return from a hip injury, playing close to an entire game in defence.

While Brown said Hansen is still working back to his best, there were some very promising signs.

"He intercepted marks three or four times throughout the day, like the Lachie Hansen that we’ve seen in the AFL.

"It was really great to see him getting back to doing that sort of stuff. He stepped it up a bit today. His form was better again."

3. First-year player Ed Vickers-Willis performed strongly in a stopping role.

"By in large it was a really, really solid game. He just snuffed out whoever he played on," Brown said.

"He did a terrific defensive job. He was all over them. He’s a bit of a natural hard-nosed defender at the moment."

Vickers-Willis took Port Melbourne’s Hugh Sandilands out of the game.

"He did it really well. He was quite impressive really … he’d be hard to play on, he doesn’t give them much space."

4. Ruckman Daniel Currie impressed with his effort.

"He kicked a nice goal, took a couple of really telling marks, laid some good tackles. It was a really, really solid performance.

"His ability to follow up, lay tackles, lay blocks and get possession was really telling."

Most likely call-ups: Lachlan Hansen, Majak Daw
Next week: Werribee v Box Hill, Sunday May 10, 2.00pm

Love the feedback from Gav Brown on Maj and Loogie.

I'd love to see such an assessment of Maj after his next game at AFL level.

As a neutral at the game I barely noticed Hansen and when I did he looked slow and not good at all.

Apart from Majak's impressive but not even close to mark of the year, he was not even close to brilliant.

I love Gavin Brown but those comments are far from an accurate account of their performances.

Finally, someone else speaks the truth! The bolded is 100%

To think that anyone from that game deserves a call up, well, that's an absolute laugh.

- EVW was putrid in the 1st Q and really put a stop to his opponent after that.
- Maj did some good things but was not outstanding.
- Hansen, likewise, but went missing a lot!
- Fordham played well, probably better than some reports suggest.

Depends on your POV I suppose doesn't it?

We've a 32 yr old FF who every NMFC person loves, but at days end he's kicked eight goals in five games, not really good enough IMO.

So from where Maj was he still clunked the ball eight times, unless that's also a ruse?

I'm happy and content thanks all the same. Not being aggressive towards your post, but yeah.

Of course, it's merely an opinion.

Majak had a presence offensively, took some good marks and kicked 3 goals. There is still the defensive element to his game that is sorely lacking.

Would love to see him succeed at the top level, but I don't think referring to his performance as brilliant helps when that wasn't the case.

Yeah I agree, and I know what your saying, but there seems to be a fair amount people hoping/wishing he fails. And some are North peeps!!

Most players have deficiencies, hell you've only got to log on during match day and if we're losing you get them all listed.lol
