Yes he "only" had 26 hit outs to advantage or whatever it was. That doesn't mean a larger portion of the taps weren't to our players, just means we weren't able to do as much with the other taps, GWS congested the ruck contests and forced ballup after ballup. Only the obvious clearances etc are counted as "to advantage"

It doesn't mean that GWS sharked 54 of his taps.

How are hitouts to advantage determined? I know that the criteria for an 'effective disposal' are questionable so what are the criteria for hitouts to advantage?

I'm guessing it is a hit out that enables your side to win a clearance.

With the current love-fest for the West Coast Palm Tree (team of the week Ruckman) I thought I would compare our boy's numbers to theirs..
Interesting how TG is flogging him in all areas except goals and free kicks for

The Palm Tree is averaging a colossus 0.8 marks per game too!

That is one of the most unreadable posts I've ever seen :thumbsu:

Anyone with an Enigma machine?

Todd is our best player, I'm not sold on that being a good thing though.

If we take a trip back in time season 1979 is worth a look.

Gary Dempsey 587 hit outs. Which Todd has covered by the length of the MCG.

Dempsey: 439 Disposals avg 18 rounded up.

245 marks!! 9.8 per game.

Now that's dominant, that s**t is off the scale. What a weapon he was and we still didn't make the GF.

As great as Todd is and he's arguably the best ruck in the comp, I'd swap him for the best midfielder in the comp in a flash.
And that's our problem, the best ruck in nowhere near the best midfield.

But yeah am glad he's ours.
Well said NN........did you get to see Max Gawn's game against Geelong last week?? I must say I enjoyed that.

But 80 tapouts is the record and someone earlier mentioned 27 of them went to our players, how many others went to advantage I havent a clue.

I cringe when people say he's a champion.......maybe of the modern era ?

Holy s**t. If you quote the post and look at it in the text box it looks like this:

As Todd approaches the age at which ruckmen usually start to dominate he could probably have been considered to be a top 5 (if not top 3 or best outright) for five consecutive years. Big boy keeps it up and he could end his career with ten elite seasons. North legend in the making IMO, lets hope we can add some team success to his resume in that time.

If you're gonna hate on Goldstein you might as well give up supporting us.

He's the only player who's gone another level.

But he should be winning every tap and directing it to an unmarked Lindsay Thomas in the goalsquare every single time. And don't get me started on the fact that Nat Fyfe is better.

It's just a case of being proven wrong in such a brutal fashion that you refuse to believe it/acknowledge it due to deep-seated stubbornness. I guess people (that person) thinks that if he rides out this period of 7-8 years where he's the most dominant ruckman in the game then eventually he'll drop off and he can claim he was right all along.

Dunno though, I'd rather just support a bloke who gives it his everything and busts his balls for the club. Call me crazy.

We'd win the flag if we had traded him for Tom Boyd!

HA I didn't see Max play, but yeah I heard he done good.

The 80 tap outs is pretty awesome in my book, but 27 to advantage regardless of the amount won is bloody impressive. Goldie is a champ and as others have stated moved his game to another level. Is he the best? Doesn't matter as he's that close. His improvement flies in the face of those that say we can't develop players. But that's a subject for another time.
My point regarding Dempsey was rucks don't win you flags unless they're freakin Corey ' I can ruck and take screamers and kick six goals' McKernan. I love that people are getting some enjoyment from Goldie's season which lets be honest hasn't delivered much joy.

Dead set, the only footballer on our list to represent the jumper week in, week out.

Super job again Goldy.

I genuinely hope you're rewarded with AA honours mate, because it should have happened years ago and you have taken your game to a whole new level.

Don't hesitate to dish out multiple cockpunches to the rest of your so called teammates, who have let you down all season long.
