Past #28: Robin Nahas - delisted by NM - 34 games for the club - thank you Robin

Is Nahas able to be played next week?

I would replace him with Gibson.
Think nearly everyone at this stage would also agree and want Nahas in for Gibson.

With Brad making everyone accountable since coming back into the coaches box I think he will make the change this week and finally drop Gibson

Yeh I would much rather replace Gibson (if he does get dropped) with Nahas rather than BMac (as discussed in the other thread)

Forward pressure was an issue again, i would play all three nahas turner and garner and play 19 on the field whenever their captain is having a spell on the bench.
But really comes in for gibson. Lmac for jmac and petrie for black.

Very unlucky is Nahas to be overlooked.

Hope he continues to work hard to earn a place and place extra pressure on those selected.

Thomas should not have come in ahead of Nahas based on VFL form and effort.

Of course not, is ridiculous LT is back off poor VFL performances (after repeated poor AFL performances) but fact is he is......

.....so hopefully Nahas keeps his chin up, and continues to work hard.

He is not as good as LT at their best but he certainly is playing better at the moment, and if he keeps putting up those numbers at VFL he will be very hard to ignore.

Nahas kept the pressure on the selectors with another positive outing.

“He was pretty good Robbie. He made the most of the opportunities he had and just looked like he had a bit of a class edge whenever the ball went forward,” Dyer added.

“He kicked a good goal from the boundary where he stepped around them and slotted it.

“He just really challenged their defence and was strong at the fall of the ball. He was a good contributor.”

Yeah....nah...

Despite it being the only guide we have, VFL form is not much of a formline as to how he is going to go in the AFL. I think it was mentioned on SEN a few weeks ago by Ro Co that it just isn't the formline we think it is anymore, and the gulf between the two is immense. The major reason for this is that we have full time AFL list players who are essentially 30-40hrs a week football (not counting game day), playing VFL players who whilst the best non-AFL list players in the state (and the state only), who are probably what, 6 to 8 hours a week outside of game day?

They all need "day jobs" to get by and hence the level of prep and development is just chalk and cheese.

That said....get Harps in!

1. Robin Nahas had a huge day at the office, booting seven goals in a game that could have him in line for an AFL call-up.

“He played that mid-forward role,” Development Manager Ben Dyer said.

“He caused a bit of havoc up around the ball and then spinning forward he was just really hard to defend.

“He combined really hard running back to goal with some smarts and got some shots through that. He got a couple of goals from his pressure and probably could have kicked 10 or more if he hadn’t given a few off.”

How can a guy be "best 22 no question" when he is playing VFL?

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyway, hope his excellent VFL form is rewarded and he gets another crack in the 1s.

Better offensive output that Garner and Turner for sure, however they are in the team for their defensive attributes. If Nahas is tackling and pressuring players like a bad ass then he should be a no-brainer selection.

This, the reason why some posters have been potting him is because he refuses to do enough of the defensive stuff for much of the early season.

Nah look this is absolute bollocks, and simply a case of 'feelpinions' over cold hard evidence.

Nahas averages more tackles per game than both Turner and Garner.

In fact, the opposite of Nahas is true. At the start of the season Nahas, if anything, was TOO defensively minded, and was so hell bent on tackling that he missed a couple of opportunities to hurt the opposition the other way...

...didn't stop him from averaging more goals than both Turner and Garner though.

Feelpinion, that is laughable, in his last five weeks, his pressure acts were down statistically in his, he didn't get above three tackles a game, in fact five tackles in is his highest max all season. We know what we get from Robbie, but not so much Garner or Turner, so they'll be more inconsistent, but still bring enough pressure acts to the game, Garner for example had eight tackles in the game against Brisbane and his stats are skewed by being the sub. Kayne's stats are also skewed by a poor start to the season, but has had 14 tackles in his last four matches. Nahas may kick more goals, but in the long term, Garner and Turner offer just as much or more chances for others to kick goals than Nahas. Some posters complain that we don't try enough youth, l for one am glad we're giving games to develop two of young forwards who could potentially play important roles in years to come.

After seven goals in the VFL, l am more than happy for Nahas to come in for Turner who needs more development, the continued exposure to AFL standard football will be beneficial.
