More info on Jake Neade:
Jake’s 2015 campaign was remarkably similar to his 2014 campaign. He played the first two games in the AFL team and struggled for impact before being dropped to the SANFL team, not returning until round 15. He was then able to hold his place for the remainder of the season barring the away trip to the Gold Coast that he missed due to personal reasons. He kicked multiple goals in late season wins against Essendon, St Kilda and Hawthorn. When on his game, Jake’s pace and energy around our forward line can be exciting and if he can bridge the gap between his best and worst football he can potentially develop into a valuable member of the best 22.

Does anyone know when Neade arrives at the club? I'm not sure why, but I am really excited about this guy

Tom Logan tweeted that Jake was at the Club today for his first session. Tommy reckons he's a great kid and very keen to get started :)

I think that Jake is the only new guy not to do any kind of media so far. Would love to hear from/about him now that hes been at the club for a few months. Perhaps the club is shielding him a bit from any hype?

The tiny teen with the giant talent has turned a few heads after his NAB Cup debut.

Port Adelaide excitement machine Jake Neade

Jake Neade, 18 rocketed into the Power's selection frame with a standout NAB Cup performance against St Kilda at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, kicking a goal, gathering eight disposals and applying enormous inside-50 pressure with his blistering pace and maniacal tackling ability.
Suddenly a lightweight who was considered a longshot to debut this year as Port tries to add some power to his 170cm, 67kg body is a fan favourite who is eyeing a round one start.
"Hopefully I'll play round one - that's the aim," said Neade, who already has added 3kg of muscle since arriving at Alberton in October.

Well I can see why they didnt plonk him in front of a media scrum. :)

He doesnt sound like a dummy, just very nervous. I bet away from a camera hes quite eloquent and confident.

Excellent story on Neade by Harry Thring

Little man, big heart

HOW does a heart so big fit into the tiny frame of Port Adelaide speedster Jake Neade?

At 170cm and 64kg, the 18-year-old is the smallest player in the AFL but judging by the way he plays the game you wouldn't think it true.

When his side was 41 points down 11 minutes into the third quarter against West Coast on Saturday night, of all the players on the ground it would have been easiest for Neade to concede defeat.

Instead, he was the catalyst for what proved a remarkable fight back.

Great article from Jakey's home town of Elliot.

‘Elliott Express' Jake Neade making his mark at the top level

ABOUT 10 minutes after lobbing in town and asking after the family of the footballer who plays for Port Adelaide we are at their front door.

The player is Jake Neade and his folks, Chris Neade and Bev Wilson live in South camp, one of the two Aboriginal town camps in the 350-person Outback town of Elliott.
Out the back of the Elliott pub is Shelley McDonald who is setting up for the town's annual gay and lesbian mardi gras.
She flushes out the publican's wife Lyn Mullan who leaves her next door shop and takes us slightly out of the main town - pub, shop, servo, cop shop - to South camp.
It is not really an intrusion, more of an open town and Lyn loves to chat about the "Elliott Express".

Yeah great story, but I like this bit that probably explains why he is such a good tackler and confirms that like many other indigenous kids in the NT they play both footy and league

In that Elliott yard, in that stifling Northern Territory heat, there is debate who Jake plays like.
"It's hard to say," Chris says.
"He's a bit like Johnny Platten actually, I thought," Lyn puts in.
"Because they're so small they know if they get tackled they are gunna get hurt so he just ducks and weaves. Or Cyril Rioli. I like him like Cyril."
"Eddie Betts maybe," Chris says.

There is someone in town who is sure who Jake is like on the field. Bob Bagnall owns the mechanics shop and has been on local council for 25 years.
He said he'd never seen Jake play before he played for Port but reckons he immediately reminded him of Chris.

Chris, who doesn't like talking about about himself, grew up in Mount Isa playing rugby league and played for Elliott in Aussie Rules, winning the Barkly Australian Football League best and fairest in 1994, 1996 and 1997.

He is referred to as a "legend" in town and there is a theory Jake's strong tackling comes from his dad.
"He could have been anything, Chris," Bob says.
"There just wasn't the opportunity back then."

Very disappointed with his development. 2013 is still his best and most influential season. Jake has all the attributes to be one of the great small forwards. He's a great decision maker, he's lightning quick, he loves to tackle and harrass, he knows where the goals are and has the smarts to kick them or bring team-mates in. For whatever reason, maybe it's attitude, he can't put that undeniable talent to use.

This year was the perfect opportunity for him. Monfries unavailable left a spot to be filled. Matt White going down opened another spot. By season's end Jake could have cemented his place in the forward line putting pressure on White, Wingard, etc when Monfries returns. Instead he's now fallen behind Youngy (well done to him), Amon, and Impey who has spent all his time with us down back. White and Monfries come back Neade will struggle to get a call up even if we have injuries.

Perhaps it's best for both parties if we explore trading him.
