Retired #3: Paul Chapman

Great career but utter disaster for us. Was instrumental in a few wins last year which delayed the inevitable collapse. Without Chappy we'd be 1 year ahead in our rebuild.

The response and applause he got from the supporters after a few good games was like the coming of the messiah. What a complete embarrassment.

He took up the spot of a kid on the list.

1 less developing ruckman, small forward, etc, etc.

:thumbsu: :rainbow:
And earlier in the year you set top 4 as a pass mark for this club. Now you're complaining about one player setting back the entire rebuild. You keep reaching for that rainbow.

Moronic comment.

Was sensational for us last year & arguably our best player in the North final.

Sure his body packed it up this year, but his training standards/leadership/advice that he's passed onto the group are immeasurable & something that hopefully manifests in coming years.

He cost us a cup of coffee ffs!!

Adam Cooney for #37 on the other hand is a different story.

What leadership and standards has he passed onto the group? They have crumpled over every time the going gets hard. There's is not evidence he's helped at all.

He got a 2 year contract or whatever and has only been able to fulfil one of it. This isn't any sort of supercoach s**t. This is the AFL and we have failed miserably.

Such a dud you had him listed in your 2015 Best 22

They've crumpled over everytime it's gotten hard?? You really don't have a clue do you?

There's a reason for that & it's into its 3rd year, the previous 2 of which we've stood up pretty well in. Or had you forgotten that?? To explain it away that Chappy's had no influence in the hell hole that's been our club this year is ridiculous. No advice, guidance or good intentions would've snapped us out of the rot this year, let alone anything Chappy has imparted behind the scenes.

Im also referring to feedback by the playing group about the influence he's had on how they think about their preparation/expectations etc. The fact he was voted into our leadership group might indicate that!!

To overlook the value his presence has had at the club is pretty shortsighted, esp given the fact he would've only been replaced by some late round spud who would've offered nothing anyway.

His worth off the field as well as being a leader on the field will add something to these guys going forward. They're the kind of people you need around the place when you rebuild so it's not a full list of novices or too much leadership responsibility is placed on a couple of people.

The more leaders the better, particularly one with 3 premiership medals over 5 years. Remember, he and his team-mates started in almost the exact same position that we are in now. They had a plethora of midfield talent with older big guys, we have a plethora of tall young talent and developing smaller guys, but the stage of development is very similar..

Too many people place too much emphasis on draft pick positions and trades and ages. If those were the answer then Melbourne, Gold Coast and GWS would be top of the ladder. It's as much about leadership and knowledge of existing players than the talent of potential or new players, plus coaching and game plan.

You cant be serious.

Champagne comedy folks. keep up the good work.

Gotta laugh at our supporter base who cheered Chappy like the messiah after a few good games last year. A 32 year old bit part player discarded from a club looking to challenge again on his pension tour getting a standing ovation.

He was ok for us last year in a dozen games but has come to a grinding halt. Thats no way to view success in a recruit. Its about list build and constant regeneration.

The problem with too many Essendon supporters is its become about the individual rather than the team. While other clubs continue to build powerhouse
teams and empires we are more concerned giving laps of honour to our players.

Now just call everyone brainwashed, declare that you're off to the Dogs board and that's Kelvin bingo.

Agreed - This post is a complete embarrassment...

Great player for cats. Nice touch club acknowledging a rival player's contribution:

The Geelong Cats congratulate Paul Chapman on an outstanding AFL career after he announced his impending retirement today.

Selected by the Cats at pick 31 in the 1999 AFL draft, Chapman spent 14 stellar seasons with the club, playing 251 games and kicking 336 goals before moving to Essendon for the past two seasons.

A fan favourite, Chapman entertained the blue and white faithful from his debut in 2000 to his last game for the Cats in 2013.

A triple premiership player (2007, 2009 & 2011) for the club, Chapman’s accolades include the 2006 ‘Carji’ Greeves Medal, 2009 Norm Smith Medal and All-Australian selection in 2009 and 2010.

Chapman was admired by Geelong supporters for his fierce competitiveness and ability to step up on the big stage.

“Chappy will go down as a legend of the Geelong Football Club,” Geelong Cats coach Chris Scott said.

“He was a privilege to coach and his contribution to our football club will never be forgotten. Paul's playing record speaks for itself, but it doesn't show the fierce competitor and the determination that he displayed in every game he played.

"His contribution is much more than the statistics and awards. You only had to watch the intensity he brings to know how much football means to him. We all wish him luck in his final game and look forward to catching up with him after the season.”

The Geelong Cats wish Chapman well for his future after football and congratulate him on his fantastic service to the club and the game

There is such a function on BF called 'Ignore' this means that you will not see the posts of someone you place on 'Ignore'.
Rather than resorting to personal attacks I suggest that you use the ignore function as the abusive comments are becoming very tedious

How about we get a dislike button...

Ignore is so head in the sand...

Just wish people would check before they press post reply and ask themselves would they say this to the person face to face, old fashioned values maybe but this is how humans deserve to be treated..

What's the name of this kid?? He's a developing ruckman who doubles as a small forward, yeah we need one of them...
Come on, in hindsight tell us who we should have picked, it's that simple..

As opposed to you living in Kelvin land who has all the answers after the event but never any solutions before the event.
So which kid at pick 60 plus did we miss out on developing ?

Will answer my own question.
3 picks used after we used pick 64 to upgrade Dalgliesh.
Tom Langdon
Sam Lloyd
Karl Amon.
Maybe took a spot from them.
Problem was we lost early picks. We did ok getting Merrett Z and Fantaisia from limited picks.
