Traded #30: Patrick Ryder - Returns to the club as Indigenous Player Development Manager

Paddy has been so consistent this season. And going under the radar from many outside the club. He is so skilled, athletic and has a great football brain. Hope he keeps it going.

Been a big fan for many years.

Ryder and Hepp are working so well together. They really trust each other. The amount of times Paddy would just palm a tap down the throat of Hepp these last two weeks has been incredible. Wallis was right on Hepp in the 2nd and 3rd last night, but Hepp still often found the ball in his hands - he'd just get tackled instantly. Next time you're at the game, have a look at the understanding these two have.

Good shout. Would take Ryder as a forward slightly ahead though
Only slightly? Jacobs gets more hit outs because he's a lot bigger and gets more possessions, but they are generally uncontested and he's not at all damaging with ball in hand. Ryder gets his share of contested possessions, both on the ground and in the air and can be very damaging with those touches, as he is with his tap work.

Sauce Jacobs.

Good call

Jacobs only trails Ryder (averages) in tackles (- 0.7), Contested possessions (- 1.1), clearances (-1), 1%'s (- 1.2) and Marks inside 50 (- 1) whilst Ryder has kicked 13 goals (to Jacobs 5) and would be a far superior forward.

I didn't even realise how bloody good big Sauce had been this year.

Loving his work this year, but with Daniher and Belcho out his workload has obviously increased. What are people's thoughts on his workload management towards the end of the season given we should now play a part in September ?

I posted last week that in an ideal world he would either be rested for a game or have 2 games when he spends less than 50% in the ruck. An injury to Ryder would be catastrophic.

Ryder was always going to have a good year if he was the sole ruckman. Its the same why Jacobs, Minson and Lobbe go well consistently. If you play in the ruck long enough you will get the pill and enough hitouts.

For me hes probably on the brink of AA. Surely Jacobs as the main ruck and Ryder on the bench as the backup ruck/forward.

I would have Heppell, BJ and maybe Watson still ahead of him. He is looking like getting a top five finish.
The only clearly ahead is Hooker IMO

Paddy is a fantastic player, this year he's been so consistent. He has been one of my favourites for many years. Top 3 for importance in our team.

I saw him at a blackjack table one time at the Crown Casino about 4-5 years ago. I sat next to him and had a chat/laugh, I didn't bust his balls too much about footy because it was the off season. Great bloke, gave me the time of day. A few losers (opposition supporters) come passed drunk shouting out who they barrack for blah blah blah, the usual stuff.
