Max Bailey
Made a fantastic recovery from his knee surgery only to injure the other knee in the final home and away game. It is a bit of a tragedy given he’d done so well to get back and play some AFL games. He’ll be in rehab for the best part of the next nine months, and he will come back depending on how well his knee progresses.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

As 'my man' for 2010, I'm looking forward to seeing big Max back on the field, hopefully sooner than we think, and getting to play several-fold more games this year than his 4 or so thus far for the HFC

Will monitor his recovery with even more interest now

Re: 1. Max Bailey

In an interview with the Hun while he was up in Katherine, NT, as part of the Hawk's community camp program, Max was talking up his recovery from his knee injury, with his knee feeling good....

"In all seriousness the knee feels fine."

Good enough to eye a mid-season date for a comeback rather than sitting out the year. "I know I won't be right to play for another four or five months, but around mid-season I'd seriously be hoping to be close," Bailey said.

"I'm not too fussed on the timing. If I can play one game before the end of the season I'd be happy."

Bailey still a chance to stand tall

INJURY-plagued Max Bailey's excellent progress from a third knee reconstruction has Hawthorn believing he could still be the long-term solution to its current ruck crisis

...

When Bailey's "good" left knee went last year his career seemed in doubt, but the Hawks will not warehouse him for the season.

"He has a few boxes to tick, but there is no reason he wouldn't play AFL footy (late) this year, especially if our season is still up and running by then," one Hawks' insider said.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

Max is about a month away from resuming full training, and has been undertaking specialist rehabilitation adjusting his jumping and landing technique to minimise the chance of further knee problems...

[Bailey] is back running and doing leg weights and while cautious not to set a date, he could return in the last half of the season. “I’m about seven months into things now and hopefully I’m about a month away from getting into training,” he said.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

I had a long chat with Max Bailey on Sunday and the vibe :)D) was that he is over his injury concerns and is looking forward to 2011 with great confidence.

Our man in the know, Number 24, has confirmed that the club has decided to cotton wool our man Max for the rest of the year, given his recent arthroscope, but Max is confident about making his belated return to dominate the football field in 2011.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

Clarko has confirmed the club is leaning towards putting Bails on ice for the year

Alistair Clarkson said:
"He's done a fair amount of work in his rehab, but nothing beats actually starting a pre-season fresh, fit, firing and ready to go and then having a three or four month campaign to get yourself ready for match conditioning.

"At the moment that's probably the way we're leaning. We're probably more mindful of giving him a full pre-season, but we've been really happy with his progress after this reco and he's an important player to our structure if we can get him going."

Re: 1. Max Bailey

Mark Evans reiterating Maximillian's slow train to footy, with the club likely to wait until 2011 before putting him back on the park.

Mark Evans said:
“We’ll allow [Max] to keep going in his build-up to playing, but if he’s going to run out of time we certainly won’t be pushing him out there early,” Evans said.

“The program for the moment is for him to just keep working away at it and we’ll make a call as he progresses through. The Hawthorn and Box Hill sides will hopefully go for a bit more than the five weeks [to finals] so we’ve got a bit of time. There’s no great rush.”

Re: 1. Max Bailey

Max has been told he'll receive a contract for next year.

A Hawthorn player well acquainted with being sidelined by injury, ruckman Max Bailey, has been told he will be retained next year. The 23-year-old has played just six matches in five seasons and none this year because of a third knee reconstruction but despite this record and the fact he comes out of contract in a couple of months the Hawks are keen for him to go on.

"He has been training and he will continue to train, not so that he can play this year, but to make sure he's in prime shape to do the best pre-season he can," Evans said.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

Mark Evans speaks of the confidence the HFC have in Bails after delisting Skipper and Taylor, and that Bails will be fit to start Pre-season on November 1

He seems to have come out of this rehab really well," Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans said. "Only time will tell whether he can get through the full bulk of the pre-season, but so far things are going well.

"It's the first time he has been ready to go for the start of the pre-season, so they are really promising signs. He's been an absolute pleasure to have around the club, and his commitment has just been outstanding, so we are hopeful he can kick-start his AFL career."

Re: 1. Max Bailey

Number 24 puts paid to the rumours that Max's knock to the knee in pre-season training was anything serious...

Max hurt his knee in a marking clash with Buddy last Friday. He WALKED from the ground UNASSISTED.

He was out on the ground today. His knee was strapped. He went to the oval via the long stair route and negotiated the stairs with no sign of discomfort. He did not run today but moved with total freedom, bending his knee as reqiured, and did not limp at any stage.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

I'm going to be on the edge of my seat every time I see Max Bailey play an AFL game. Apparently he's taken 'sideways jumps' out of his repertoire as that is what got him in trouble with his last knee.

I don't know how he did his other one.

Re: 1. Max Bailey

I think it's pretty safe to say if he does another big injury this year that's it for him. I hope not just like everyone else.
