The only 2nds comps not currently AFL funded are the SANFL and WAFL if I understand correctly.
Like the Foxtel Cup?Yeah but its not like any of them are national (flights, probably paying to get them on tv for sponsorship deals etc) so costs much much less

I think the footy culture at the top level hasn't reflected the grass roots level for a long time, being a reserves match before the league match.
A whole day's entertainment, same plane too.
I don't think any club will tolerate moving to WA so I would expect some powerhouse mergers.
The thought of which will offend any Victorian football fan of course.
Essendon Bulldogs, Carlton Kangaroos, Collingwood Hawks etc etc
I don't expect that to go down well.
The problem is so many people in Perth can't see an AFL game because too many people support the current clubs, a new team would allow people to go to games and they will support this new team. The northern suburbs are just so beige. I can't see where the support or passion would come from. They also need to steal a lot of fans from existing sides.

West Coast A is currently called East Perth.
Supposing there is a third WA team
Dont assume all three WA teams will automatically Get two derbies against each other, unless there is some conference arrangement
I think there will be a 3rd WA team and a 3rd WA team really increases the viability of a WA footy tourism market, but would 2 AFL games every 2nd weekend mean WA (Perth) would vie with Melbourne for football tourism $$.
Many more people may fly to Perth for a football weekend if there is 2 games, couple of games of footy, casino, Margaret river etc.
While I like the idea of a 3rd WA team, I doubt too many people would come over to see 2 games.
Most football tourism is people wanting to see their side, and really, the new stadium having more/better seats allocated for visitors would probably have a lot more to do with increasing numbers there. 1 day at the football, 1 day doing other 'tourist' stuff, then back home.

I just recently went to Melbourne for a weekend, did not really barrack for any team , went to 2 games, casino and Caulfield races and a few Fitzroy pubs + Royal/cricketers Arms opposite Punt Road for a arvo.
Could do the same on a weekend to Perth, plus possibly the beach ( if we had 3 AFL teams)
Footy fans are committed - despite the problems in Melbourne of poor FIXturing & time slots/FTA coverage, I have not heard of any fan changing clubs in Melbourne Blackas, have you?
A 3rd club in WA will need AFL support for 20 years before it is financially viable - more compromised drafts, more footballers getting a game in the AFL comp who just are not up to it, they are duds Blackas, not good enough today & you want more.
I think that is rubbish, although i agree the talent pool is not there for it.
Rubbish my guesstimate, whats yours?
A couple of years, a new team would take no members of either team ATM, except those perhaps on waiting lists, you underestimate the amount of people in WA who have no real affiliation with either team by not being Sandgropers by birth and being relatively new to the state.
Both clubs are closed shops, memberships are as scarce as hens teeth, they have cut a whole generation of Westralians out of being able to go to the footy.
Collingwoods support keeps growing, they dont go elsewhere. They sell premium packages based on a guaranteed GF seat, not a guaranteed GF.
