He grabbed the attention of recruiters after a stellar season with East Fremantle (WAFL) under the leadership of club coach and former Brownlow Medal winner Shane Woewodin.

Re: 44. Liam Anthony

Quote: NORTH Melbourne draftee Liam Anthony is recovering quicker than expected from a stress fracture in his right foot and could return to training within three weeks.

The 21-year-old was diagnosed with the injury ahead of North's season opener against Melbourne – initially meant to be his debut – and was set to spend up to six weeks on the sidelines.

However, chief of football Donald McDonald said that Anthony's latest scans had confirmed a shorter lay-off.

"The doctor said today (Tuesday) that the scans were better than we first thought, so it's healing really well," McDonald told kangaroos.com.au.

"In a couple of weeks' time he'll just do another precautionary scan and be right to resume training. That's two to three weeks earlier than we thought."

Because of inroads made during the pre-season, McDonald believes Anthony will need one or two weeks on the track before he can be considered for selection by VFL affiliate North Ballarat.

"If he gets through the training alright, he's just going to have to tweak his fitness up a little bit again – even though he's got a fantastic base" he said.

"Originally with the stress fracture you had to be off it for six and then there'd be another three-week period where he'd get back to full fitness again."

The midfielder wore a moonboot to aid his early recovery and McDonald said the injury had to heal naturally – with rest and without the strain of running.

North recruited 21-year-old Anthony at No.43 in November's NAB AFL Draft after three years' experience in the WAFL.

Re: 44. Liam Anthony

Mate, he hasn't even played an official AFL match yet, let alone an automatic starter. He'll go through the VFL just like most would.

He was pretty much our best midfielder across the preseason. Hopefully can quickly rediscover that form as there is definitley a spot for him.

Re: 44. Liam Anthony

Anyone got an update on when he'll be back? Is he close to playing with North Ballarat?

Re: 44. Liam Anthony

Hey guys. anyone with training knowledge or up to date info on where he is at would be greatly appreciated. there are an awful lot of fantasy footballers out there waiting on this guy.
Thanks for the updates

Re: 44. Liam Anthony

Know a bloke who works at North and he tells me that Liam SHOULD be right for selection in around 6 weeks. Obviously this is presuming there is no injury mishap and he gets a bit of match fitness while playing good footy in the VFL.

Re: 44. Liam Anthony

The article was posted on 16th April.

---2-3 weeks he gets another scan. That is April 30 - May 6.

---One or two weeks on the track before being considered for VFL. That is May 6 - 20.

---Needs to impress through the VFL. Two weeks plus one would think. that takes him to May 20 - June 1 at least till he's considered for AFL.
