Taxpayers would subsidise the training of priests and other religious workers at private colleges for the first time under the Abbott government's proposed higher education reforms.
As well as deregulating university fees and cutting university funding by 20 per cent, the government's proposed higher education package extends federal funding to students at private universities, TAFES and associate degree programs.
Religious teaching, training and vocational institutes would be eligible for a share of $820 million in new Commonwealth funding over three years.

Institutes such as the Sydney College of Divinity, Brisbane's Christian Heritage College and the Perth Bible College, which currently charge students full fees, would be eligible for an estimated $4214 funding a year each student under the reforms.
The John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Melbourne, which offers course units including "Theology and Practice of Natural Family Planning" and "Marriage in the Catholic Tradition", would also be eligible for federal support.
The institute says on its website its mission is "promote marriage and the family for the good of the whole Church and the wider community".

This should be good.

If a school can't adhere to the country's vilification laws then they shouldn't receive education funding.

Call me stupid but to me that seems self evident.

It's bad enough these kiddy fiddlers get protection peddling their hate under exemptions in that law, but we shouldn't be using tax payer funds to support them while peddling it.

"John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family" . . . god help us.

Your being very judgemental , many priests do wonderful work in the community, of course their is the odd bad apple, but very rare are they.

I'm being judgmental?

Have you read/heard what churches preach?

As for your comment on being "very rare" . . . . even the pope wouldn't try and sell that! [Pope says about two percent of priests are pedophiles]

So an orgaisation that's had decades to clean up it's act, has a history of hiding pedophiles, "reassures" the pope that it's now only 2%? We're not only supposed to believe that 2% is somehow acceptable but we're supposed to accept that 2% as being accurate? This is the Catholic Church we're talking about. Truth isn't a virtue any thinking person would equate with that organisation - Catholics included!

We shouldn't be debating whether these schools get tax dollars . . . we should be debating if these institutions of child abuse should even still exist!

Can't wait for the campaigner to go has no idea what he's doing.

Disgraceful
On this one he knows precisely what he's doing. Giving support and comfort to the people from whom he takes his orders and gets his motivation. Wouldn't surprise if George still phones him daily to give him his marching orders.

To be fair the Church does have revenue stream obstructions.
After the bloke priests were " outed " for systematically shagging everyone small, the great unwashed contributed less to the 'collection' plate.
If this stingy, vengeful and irreligious approach were to continue, the church could be forced to fall back on some of its 11tysevengazillion in monetary assets.
Heaven has already explicitly forbidden the selling of any art treasures, prime realty or gold reserves;or paying for its own unrivaled training regime.
Those who have been shagged or had their children shagged will have their taxes used to underwrite the training of the new generation!
Amen said Tone!!

Family unit is a very important thing.Though its not for all, it is still and always will be, important for many. Its how we're meant to continue. Christians do have a right to preserve their culture,

Having said that Julie Bishop has said she will blame Blinky bill Shorten if her depts budget is effected by their blocking of the university bill.

I hate the animal this is so much worse than anyone realizes. This is 100% proof of pure agenda. Now we can all see cutting health and education isn't for the savings he is trying to kill the lower and middle classes.

Someone really should assassinate him!

Lol he's meant to be a prime minister for all Australians, not just for the delusional medieval Catholics and big business.

Can't believe anyone would apologise on this clown's behalf.

I was defending the family unit that is getting attacked in here, not that clown
How is the family unit "getting attacked"? (Sounds like a Fox News headline TBH)

How is that even possible?

Abbott helped them with this as well as he took money away from the Royal Commission into child sex abuse.

Tony "I thought you aborted that kid" Abbott is protecting the traditional family unit?

Being skilled in hypocrisy is part and parcel of a decent Catholic education.
