About time WA clubs used the go home factor

Can't see many high profile players leaving Melbourne after 8 years to go back to WA. Rance is married presumably to someone he met in Melbourne, his mother, father and sister have moved to Melbourne. Not much to go back too!
Im 90% sure he married a Perth girl, who moved over with him.

I doubt he will move though. Hes too entrenched in Richmonds team to worry, he will get a much higher payrise by waiting until mid next year.

Freo will have to pay way overs to get him. If so, good luck to them. Richmond dont need to be pulled into that fight, no player is bigger than the team. Unless you are Gary Ablett. Then you can ask for anything you want. :D

Buddy used free agency but there was no go home factor. Vic clubs are sweating on Dangerfield, so its pleasing to see the WA clubs getting in for their chop.

All-Australian defender Alex Rance is the latest big man target in Fremantle’s now annual assault to win a ready-made key position replacement for veteran superstars Matthew Pavlich and Luke McPharlin.

Rance, out of contract with Richmond at the end of the season, continues to delay talks on a new deal, leaving the full-back open to approaches from Dockers management to consider a move back to his home state after six seasons and 107 games at the Tigers.

Jaeger O’Meara, Harley Bennell, David Swallow, Brandon Matera and Jack Martin at the Suns as well as Stephen Coniglio with Greater Western Sydney are all expected to be headhunted to return home.

Versatile Essendon duo Cale Hooker and Tayte Pears are others on the radar for tempting lures to return west along with Brisbane midfielder Daniel Rich and Hawthorn’s Bradley Hill.

One football operations boss said contracts would not be a barrier after last season.

“You don’t worry about contracts, they mean nothing anymore,” he said.

That was evidenced at last year’s unsavoury trade period when a host of players still in contract switched clubs.

Good news if you are a Dockers or Eagles fan, but both need on field success to lure good players home.
Freo tried this with Buddy, Harry Taylor.. Noone from WA wants to return unless they're going through a mid-career crisis or are pushed out.

I know a member here who is friends with his wife, she is definitely from WA.

Thanks, I thought that was the case.

The story goes that Murray rance went to woosha & asked him to draft Alex, but woosha told him wce needed mids, which is a shame. Our team would be much better if we'd drafted him over Ebert.

If rance does come back, it'd be to one side only you would have thought- and with rance'a family over there he seems likely to stay.

Taylor was a whisker from coming back
Perth 1.9 million now, in last 10 years alot more nightlife and bars, and of course more planned and massive coast and party culture..
Next generations will want to come back to the Barcelona or LA of Australia

Sorry mate but I've lived in Perth for 6 years now, and while it's grown up a huge amount in the last 5 years it'll never be a destination city for the rest of Australia by virtue of its isolation and cost of living. And Harry Taylor- well he had his girlfriend wanting to head back AND a huge payday on offer and he still didn't return.

Even with Perth booming the last 5 years no one of any note has returned. Now the slowdown is in full swing why would this change? Not trying to be negative but I think it's an issue WA clubs need to start addressing, and you could argue it's cost Fremantle a flag already without having the 1-2 topup stars to finish off a team like Hawks and Swans enjoyed these past few years.

If Perth becomes the "LA of Australia" then nuke the joint and start again. Its a shithole.

Ive been living here for 15 years. LA is a shithole.

s**t-hole.

HT was entertaining the WA offer. And from what I believe he took less to stay in Geelong - not much but less - and the wife was pushing pretty hard to get back to WA.

Each to their own, but WA faces challenges.

Harry is a Geraldton boy & that is home & where he will be post footy. Doesnt suit the narrative aka spin of many posters but ...

That the WA clubs had a go is important because over recent years they dont seem to have tried.

That mean's he's chance of wanting to return if they are looking at having kids. The wife usually wants to be near her Mum to help her through the start.

That said, people have kids much later these days so they might prefer the Melbourne life style and not want to move to the Perth burbs.

Free Agency is one thing, but in terms of trading, Freo and Ross Lyon are an absolute pain in the arse to deal with and West Coast really haven't got any decent trade assets if they wanted to snag a big name (from GC or GWS)

The harsh reality is that both Perth clubs are pretty much unlikely to snag any big name interstate club recruit anytime soon...
