Adelaide Crows 2014-2015 Offseason extravaganza

Hello! Sorry for raiding your page, good luck in the off season and all that.

So Luke Lowden has told Hawthorn he wants opportunities elsewhere, and from what I've been hearing you guys need a second ruckman to help Sam Jacobs so Jenkins doesn't have to ruck (might be wrong, mind you).

Giles is the rumor going round, but GWS will probably want a second round pick for him which Adelaide wouldn't want to trade. Hawthorn need a clearance midfielder and from what I've been hearing Lyons isn't going to usurp Crouch for that position.

So what would you think of:
Lowden+Pick 57 (To Adelaide) --> Lyons+Pick 65 (To Hawthorn)

Both players are in blistering form in their respective reserve teams (Lowden averages around 2+goals and averages around 30 hit outs, whereas Lyons in a clearance monster and does like to kick a goal or two) and would like chances elsewhere to flourish. Hawthorn and Adelaide wouldn't be interested in dealing with their Second Round picks, but an upgrade of 8 in draft order could allow the Crows to get a valuable depth player. A sweetener on the deal, if you would.

Thoughts?
I would say thats something we would look at. Lyons hasnt had a good run and alot of us think if he has coach who plays him without been used as a sub and dropped after one or two games then he will be really good. Sando sucked at managing young talent.

What if you were lucky enough to bring Cameron to the club?

Factor a second ruck in Giles who can rest forward (if you play them both) and it gets quite crowded up forward.
Giles should be played with Sauce. He is a very good forward option who can kick goals. Sauce doesnt hit the score board anywhere near Giles.

With WhiteX, Anderson, Simpkin, Hartung, Woody, and possibly Hallahan waiting in the wings, I can't see a requirement for Lyons at Hawthorn.

We have Langford as our specialist (up and coming) clearance player, and Woody to back him up. I would prefer to keep Hallahan than exchange one depth player for another.

Lyons would offer something very different to Whitecross, Hartung etc.

I personally thought he'd be more of a Sewell replacement given he's meant to be a strong inside midfielder, one paced (although decent in front of goals going from what we've seen at AFL level).

Even then, mightn't break into the 22 given Sewell couldn't but that's the sort of position he'd be going for ideally imo.

Lowden wants to be traded (from reports) and honestly I think this is the best deal we can get out of him. I've been asking around-bundling a few players doesn't meet the criteria needed to get a substantial pick nor a substantial player. If we can't get a good pick or trade for him then there's no point in trading him as he's been on our list for 6 years, and simply delisting him means we get nothing. Hopefully if this is the case he sees reason and resigns, I honestly don't want to lose the bloke.

Lyons, by all accounts, is a goal-kicking midfielder of which we lack who thrives on contested ball. He reminds me of Josh Kenedy-perhaps not as good, but with lots of potential. For a trade where we come on slightly worse in our third-round pick shouldn't hurt too hard aswell.

Whitecross is coming off an ACL-there's no guarantees he'll be as good (case and point Gilham, poor guy). Cant say anything on him yet but wish him the best.

Anderson & Langford, yes I completely agree.

Hartung is a pacy player. He's not the contested king we need, he's an outside running player who can run his opponent ragged (basically a faster Hill)

Simpkin doesn't have the pace nor the skills to hold a permanent spot in our team, and develop into a full time player. One thing I will say is that he always has an impact.

Woodward isn't really a goal-kicker and I don't believe him to be as good as we think he is (he could prove me wrong). Hallahan has all the attributes but will probably seek opportunity elsewhere.

Look at it this way: Hodge, Burgoyne and Mitchell are getting old and Lewis is 28. These 4 were arguably our best performers in the Grand Final. The guaranteed replacements for them so far are Anderson, Woodward and Hallahan. Langford has already taken Sewellys spot.

Young blood doesn't hurt and we need players who thrive on contested ball to feed it out to our running players. This is why the club wants to get O'Rourke: a fast player who isn't afraid of contested ball. In my opinion if Hallahan leaves this could be a trade we could seriously consider-if he (Hallahan) doesn't then 50/50.

If this guy is fast 100 percent we should go after him. On that, do you (Adelaide supporters) think Lyons is particularly fast? Or just average?

Ah sorry Adelaide supporters. Probably shouldn't talk about Hawthorn's list on an Adelaide forum, I'll just bugger off now.

Lyons is relatively quick. Not elite speed, but can run and carry and executes well by foot. Added bonus is his ability to hit the scoreboard.
I personally want Lyons to stay as I think he will improve out of sight if he has the right coach. With us, he only had to make one mistake and Sando dropped him, but other players got far more forgiveness. Don't know if it was a relationship thing, but he definitely got the sharp end of the stick.

Who is he going to play ahead of?
You have 3 rucks ahead of him atm and its not like hes going to play for rough/gunston

He walks into Hales position. I see Ceglar as possible trade bait NEXT year.

I know another season in the VFL is not likely to be high on Lowies list of desires, but after he is the one I think is the best replacement for Hale

Wow ok, can we have Ceglar then?
Would rather him than lowden.

Guys like Danger, GWS' Cameron, etc don't change unless the purchasing club has multiple very early 1st round picks &/or top 5 players willing to change clubs as a trade.

crows don't have multiple very early draft picks to trade, Walker, Sloane, Talia & Jacobs aren't on the table & Danger would, in the very unlikely situation of wanting to move, wouldn't move to anyone not in the immediate picture for a flag.

And those clubs don't have the assets that would interest the crows.

So just like every other club, the best they can hope for are middle of the road type trades.

Hope everyones been following the Crows crazy trading this year. Head over to the Crows board we have a 1000 page thread on it to keep everyone up to date.

Who you getting?

Who you getting?

Someone that no one else wants? Maybe?

Playing in local leagues seems more attractive...

For what it's worth I didn't think Adelaide should gave gone trade crazy, see what Walsh does first, then see what happens next year (if any of the 3 FA's don't sign).

I really thought it was all going to unfold today for the Crows. Can't believe they got nothing out of trading again. Something has to change in this club.

And with just one minute until the deadline. Adelaide trade picks 31, 50 and 68 for Lowden, Cheney and picks 43, 47 and 59

Essentially a downgrade on our second pick and upgrades to our third and fourth plus two players that fill a need. Think we've done alright there.
