Adelaide's Rising Star History

All with no top 10 picks, unless you include Crouch senior
yes, its an exceptional effort. add to that the strong rookie draft picks from last year and the poaching of betts and we do get a helluva lot right in terms of list mgt and especially player development where you could argue we are near leagues best.

Hopefully people can let off with the 'Victorian Bias We Don't Get Rising Star Nominated' rubbish that some people have been spouting
Prior to 2008, there was definitely Victorian bias in the system - not in recent years though as has been very fair IMO. This is some of the reason for our increased nominations - along with Rendell!

Exhibit A - Johncock played all 25 games in his 1st season in 2002 & played some very good football. Got overlooked in every game for a nomination & have a look at some of the duds who were nominated (most of whom played no where near the full year). Eg Ty Zantuck...

I get the feeling that the panel likes to see a couple of solid games before a stand out performance. It doesn't look good to have a bunch of previous nominees not make 50 games.

Round 1 and 2 are the "guns recruits" that play well.

Who could ever forget the 2003 debacle of nominating two blokes in Round 22 just so they could fit in footballing luminary Matthew Lokan on the basis that the season could not finish without granting him a nomination.

Couldn't bend the rules for Johncock though.

Reflects than 2001 was one of the best quality national drafts in history of the AFL ... but still a joke that Stiffy was not nominated after playing every game - unlike many of the players above.

Ayers just flat out refused to draft anyone aged under 21, at least not until after pick #50. Even then, he insisted on sticking his oar into the recruitment process, resulting in blunders like Angwin.

Craig came in and gave the recruiters free reign - and things began to look up immediately, though Fantasia's penchant for stuffing up our 1st round draft picks remained unforgivable. Then Rendell came in and we started to get some real talent on the list, with Fantasia's stuff ups no longer a part of the equation. Fingers crossed that Ogilvy, supported by the team Rendell built, is able to continue in the same tradition.
Who were the recruiters that built the 2005 team?
