Rightly so. Selwood doesn't duck. He shrugs and lifts his elbows to deflect the tacklers arms to a high position. It's still a sneaky ploy and poor form - but it's not ducking.

How is it poor form when the alternative is to allow himself to get tackled?

If players can't tackle properly why not exploit that? At least he has found a way to do it without leading with his head and ducking in to tackles.

nobody will argue against the fact that raising your arms to break a tackle is a good idea, it's just he should not receive 267 free kicks for it in the last 5 years.

.. are you serious? the alternative is to dispose of the goddam ball. i.e. what pretty much every junior is taught to do when a tackle is applied - not * about trying to get a cheap free kick. Poor form.

You realise he and Carlton are in the situation they are in because....

Yeah, because of about a trillion things that don't stem from Micks ability to coach or add to a football club.

I don't think he's done a good job at all at Carlton, but their list is no good, and the people in the background have no clue and haven't for about two decades.

All this may be true but at the end of the day the team is underperforming by a big margin (they even lost to GWS by 70 points). They are not that bad. Essentially they are not having a go. If we take Malthouse on face value he is blaming the club for this because they have used the word "rebuild". Triggs says that this was an inclusive strategy that included Malthouse and he had bought into it. So what's the problem? Think about how Malthouse was at Collingwood. He had actually bought into a new position with Buckley as head coach. Then slowly he started to s**t on the club and walked. His behavioural patterns are exactly the same. IMO Carlton were mad to hire him and didn't think through how he had left Collingwood. He is not the sort of person we want at Hawthorn under any circumstances.

People who support the ducking free kick have no idea how damaging it is to the game. As soon as you stop playing the game on it's merits it gets damaged. Soccer went through this in the late 1990's early 2000's. Question is does the AFL have the ...... to deal with it? I daresay if a poster boy like Selwood wasn't the major proponent they would have dealt with it a long time ago.

and yet later in the game, he was pinged for htb when he was tackled lower and the tackler had enough strength to make it stick.

Go figure.
