AFL @ Adelaide's Oval - That time is now.

YES I can't believe anyone even gets out of AAMI that quick, although there are always people who say they do, Unless your leaving halfway through the last quarter during a win or something.
If you use the shopping centre - 30 minutes would be a good effort to get out of.
If you're using Max Basheer, well, I don't want to imagine how bad that is. Only did it once, the Nab Cup GF in 2008. THat was bad enough. Have avoided at all costs ever since. Wouldn't be shocked if some said it takes 1 hour to get out of.
Then there's that infront of the Shed. There is a small amount of public availability there. And I must say, if you're not at the cities footsteps 30min after the game, you must have been in a car crash.

I've parked here ever since we tried it out in 2009. (I moved to Adelaide in 2008) and when we leave right on the siren every game. We've only been delayed in traffic once when going home. We stopped at a petrol station to refuel and then the traffic caught up with us. So Port Road was now hectic.

Oh, come on. It takes 35 minutes just to get down West Lakes Blvd and you can usually catch both coaches' press conferences by the time you get out of the car park

We go out of the car park, turn south on Frederick Road ... I usually listen to Sando's presser as I'm walking in the door. :p

ETA: It's true. We park close to the entry/exit gate (maybe that's the trick), and NEVER have a problem getting out. We do stay till the final siren.

I think Port Adelaide should have a oval near a port and we should have Adelaide Oval, come on it's called Adelaide Oval not Port Adelaide Oval, ha ;) CANT WAIT FOR A FINAL THERE :O:O

Haha we've already got free naming rights, and I've seen them use the term "the oval for all South Australians" and plenty of state colours used in the renders of the inside facilities.. Will not take long for us to make it our home.

Sort of like 5pm every weekday of the year except with far fewer people?
i just love the way you have such a naive outlook when it comes to comparing a 'rush our' end of work day to a crowd of 50000 people moving en mass to hit public transport. When it turns into a shitfest, I will be the first to be in here to say 'see i told you so', and if all runs smoothly you can do the 'i told you so'. Deal?

Ok now that AAMI is almost over I will let you in on a parking secret, well it's not that much of a secret because there's a few that use it. C'mon down Frederick Rd from Port road, take the last right before the Boulevard and turn left at the end into a culdesac. You can park on lawns and pay $5. Plan it well, grab a spot that you're not blocked in and youre out of AAMI in 10 minutes and that is waiting until the end of the game.

Here is another one.

I have been parking on Cooba Way for the past ten years. It is near the lake. Never been home any later than 45 minutes from the end of the game. I live in Salisbury. At times I have got there about 30 minutes before the game and it has been full. I those cases I park near the Golf Club on Lochside Drive and again get home quite quickly.

On to Frederick Road, through the Port and the Northern Expressway. Or if I take a mate home who lives near TTP straight up Grand Junction road, this is prior to the South Road roadworks of course. We always beat the bus home.

Golden rule, never go down the Boulevard. That is for suckers.

Went to a Saints/Collingwood game a few years ago at Docklands. The "Rapist" game. Got out at the end of the game and we were stuck between the ground and train platforms for just under an hour. Packed in like sardines. That was the worst, but have been in similar scenarios for other games between two Vic clubs at both the G and Docklands.

Such a thing will happen at AO, it is part of having a ground in the city and a majority of people heading to public transport.

I am thinking a drink at the Casino or the Crows aftermatch will be a goer for me next year.

Game ended at 5:25pm
I was driving past the Alma at 5:57pm, home at 6pm

Get the shed parking!
They stop traffic to filter Brebner Drive traffic south onto Fredrick Rd, so there's nothing going North (which is where Shed parking is filtered)
ANd if you leave on the siren, all you people who park in streets or that carpark on the other side of West Lakes Boulevard havn't hit the roads yet. We generally overtake the first wave of FX buses between Woodville and Hindmarsh. FOr those twilight games, we generally beat the first FX10 bus back to Norwood and order at either ENjoy Bakery on the parade or Chicken Time (previously known as Red Rooster) before the rush of footy express patrons arrive.

With all this talk about buses and North Terrace - I've always been under the assumption that War Memorial Drive will become the drop off point for the Footy Express buses? Not sure where I got that idea, but would make more sense than people marching down King William Street

Add in that the name of the membership was changed to fit in with the new ground and now they are not going to use either, Adelaide Oval Football Member just so inspires you to fork out the extra money.

I guess from that we will have SANFL games to go to outside of finals at Adelaide Oval they just haven't said how many to justify the extra money.

Drove past, drove down King William Street and over the River Torrens bridge late Saturday night and the Southern Stand is going to be very imposing walking in from the city.

As soon as you get past the Festival Theartre it's in your face and you will know we have a massive stadium in the city now. Before hand, the Adelaide Oval could be hidden and out of the way but now, that Southern and Western Stand will be monsters.

The foot bridge is coming along nicely as well as I had to drive into town and then down War Memorial Drive for a meeting.

It's looking good.

That is definitely happening.

Its getting very exciting, im looking forward to seeing the nearly completed Oval during the Ashes, if only to see it rather thanwwatching our poor cricket side.

Im also curious about public transport however as I work nearby its not a huge issue. We will have to get used to walking to the ground like every other city

Was just stalking the Port board and saw this: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...at-adelaide-oval/story-fnia3v71-1226684627658# Was going to reply there, but the wording of my post would've pissed a few off, and I don't really want to do that.

If the Showdown is potentially going to be Rd 2, and the venue hoping to get a test run going, do you think the AFL will try and get the smallest crowd possible, say Port vs GWS in rd 1 to just test out how the stadium copes?
THen for the next week make any changes required for a Rd 2 showdown which would be our game?

Adelaide would almost certainly sell out week 1, Port would too vs a big team, but vs a small team it would be a good test run. Hence why I think they'll get the Rd 1 game against one of North/Dees/Bulldogs/Saints/Giants/Suns

They will have plenty of opportunities to have a trial run with catering, parking, traffic, buses and getting people in and out of the stadium before the AFL season starts in March.

Moving the Friday night showdown round 1 opening is an excuse because the SMA will have so many opportunities to iron our the unknown things that could go wrong before hand.

The Southern stand will open in December and increase the capacity to about 35,000 people and they will get that many for the Ashes Test match Cricket in December. Trial run 1

They will get even larger crowds for the International One Day games is late January as I imagine they will release more seats due to demand. Australia Vs England in cricket will sell out everything at the moment. Let's assume they get 40,000. Trial run 2.

They will get similar sized crowds if not larger for the domestic T20 big bash games in January. Trial run 3, 4 and 5.

If they can not make changes to the operation systems and day to day running of the stadium after a few huge events like that, I imagine they will have got it right or will never make those necessary changes.

The showdown was promised as the opening well before the Adelaide vs Essendon round 1 game at AAMI Stadium this year. After that game, the Victorian media kicked up a fuss and bitched about how there was no football in Victoria the opening weekend and presto - we have a few hiccups that will cause the showdown to be moved.

They will have plenty of opportunities to have a trial run with catering, parking, traffic, buses and getting people in and out of the stadium before the AFL season starts in March.
The Eastern stand is handed over on Monday the 24th of March, The 2nd or 3rd week of the season is looking at starting on the 28th of March.
All your examples are doing is giving 60% of the stadium a test run. Not a full proper run.
It'd be like saying the SCG right now is a realistic test for the New Years test. Ahhh, stadium isn't complete and there will be another 50% patrons added ontop of what's going through gates and facilities now!

From all accounts the Eastern Stadium is well ahead of schedule and with public pressure after the December test match will see the hand over date pushed forward to January 26th of the Australia vs England ODI.

Now, I don't know if they are 8 weeks ahead of scheduled but I can see the public out crying to get that stand opened or at very least release some tickets at an earlier date.

Saying that, I imagine the strategies use to usher in 35,000 people will not change that much for an additional 10 to 15,000 people.

The only thing that may cause a change of direction and switch in philosophy in how they set up there match day operations would be the opening of the Eastern Stadium car park. If that's not finished until the hand over date, that will change a lot of things. Especially getting out.

Thats all a Port vs GWS game would be anyway.
But at least they can test the Eastern Stands facilities.
I'd rather 35,000 spread out completely than 35,000 cramped into the only parts available.
