Pretty keen to get a thread started again regarding AFL Canberra 1st grade.

Looks like it will be a relatively strong comp in 2016 with Ainslie coming back and keeping some really handy players.

Tuggers sound like they have kept most of thier guys and signed a few too.

Have heard Belconnen have lost 5 or 6 and haven't recruited much.

Anyone know how QBN, Eastlake and the Jets are looking?

Solid start to the season for the Jets in their first practice match, beating North Wagga 86 to 51 over 6 quarters.
Has anyone else played any practice games? Whats everyone got planned prior to the start of the season?

QBN easily over Eastlake today in Div 1 and 2 at Allinsure. Tuggers down by 66 against Wodonga Raiders on Friday night. Surprised an O&M team would come up this far for a practice match - I would have thought a NEAFL side would give them more practice.

any results from the Div 1 games?
Eastlake v Ganmain, Eastlake down by 10 points. watched and Eastlake kicked the last 6 goals of the game before game was called off due to an injury. Demons probably would have ran over them.

Griffith v Gungahlin. Heard Gungahlin were up by 6 goals in the last qtr. Any news on the final result and how strong the teams were

Queanbeyan v Coolamon. Queanbeyan comfortably, any news on the score?

Tuggers went down to Wagga Tigers by 3 points.

Final score: Qbn 31.19.205 defeated Coolamon 6.5.41

We went in with a pretty strong team but were still missing regular First Graders Swan, McCormick, Carroll-Tape, Williams, Page, Lawrence, R Price, Slater, and couple of NEAFL Rookies (Stevens and Vardanega who both played well the week before).

Coolamon were missing eight senior players and brought over quite a young side.

Our Rising Stars comfortably defeated Woden Blues Div 4 side 20.13.133 to 0.4.4.

Woden Blues Div 3 side defeated our Second Grade 13.7.85 to 8.11.59.

I understand Belconnen def Sydney hills Eagles by 10 goals. Surprised that Eagles didnt perform better.

What's everyones thoughts on how AFL Canberra can even up the 1st grade comp? The top 3 teams are well ahead of the rest.

Some sort of player grading point system maybe ?

They have a player point system already.

Queanbeyan continues to punch above its weight.

They have 1 "Social Club" to draw funds from which has been struggling for years that puts less cash into footy as each year goes by, yet they work hard building and retaining relationships for sponsorship, have a massive amount of fantastic volunteers and continue to produce top junior footballers.

I know its not easy and the process is a long one but its time for other clubs to step up.

Agree ABH, I would like to see 1st grade move from a 6 team comp to an 8 or 10 team comp. Would be great to see the likes of Woden, ANU, Molonglo etc. step up.

I know ANU wanted to stay up in the Div 1 comp when we had 4 NEAFL clubs still competing. If they were not forced back down to 3rd grade we would currently have a 7 team comp and ANU may of been strong.

Belconnen are not as financially strong as they once were, The City club closed down last year and the main sports club is struggling from all reports. So they have also done well to retain players and stay strong on the field.

Disappointing to see Gungahlin 2s forfeit this weekend.

Think Ainslie 2s have had 1 game in a month. Lot of odd byes for a comp with an even amount of teams this year.

Does anyone know if the rumour is true that Ellis has signed with Ainslie for next year? Tuggers would be spewing if thats the case!

Also heard Curtis & Salter have recommitted to Ainslie!
