Apparently the AFL are the 'bad guys' according to every soccer fan...apparently. Just lol. AAMI Park was built for soccer and league, that is big enough.
So was Docklands Stadium. When it was opened in 2000, it was as a multi purpose venue. It was designed to accommodate both Soccer pitch and Aussie Rules oval dimensions. Its not owned by the AFL or any club, so the A League clubs have just as much rights to the stadium as AFL ones. I don't expect anyone here to remember that though. Most people these days have memories of goldfish.

They have rights to it (sort of)....DURING SOCCER SEASON. Not halfway through May. Stick to the dates that were given months ago and you would have had the stadium. You could have played the Final last Friday and do what every other soccer competition does, play 2 games in a week (just a regular season game). The AFL don't have to move because the FFA continually messed up dates. Not the AFL's fault.

You mean aside from the pre-emptive rights the AFL has, that no one else has right?

You are totally obsessed with this topic.

It's done and dusted. Souvlaki trucks are being set up outside AAMI Park as we speak. Move on. A-League fans have, there's actually a pretty big game on this Sunday between Victory and Sydney to look forward to.

The FFA were obsessed with moving the game so it is only fair. Dogs vs Freo is a big game I agree.

Its still soccer season. The game with the bigger expected crowd should get best time slot priority as there's more money to be made. The just another AFL game can be scheduled at any other time on the weekend as it will get a low crowd no matter what, so it doesn't make much difference when that game is played

AFL offered to move with compensation, FFA refused. This whole thing is solely their fault.

Maybe compensation doesn't outweigh the money from ticket sales and advertising dollars from a better time slot. It really should be up to the stadium operators and no one else

No it isn't soccer season. It should have been finished a week ago at the latest, and usually a month earlier. It is meant to be between seasons, not 6 weeks into one of them. maybe the FFA can set a date and stick to that date, it is actually extremely simple, or give the AFL 12 months notice if there is a change not just a month or two. The draws have already been made there. Memberships are sold based on home games. It has nothing to do with crowds. The AFL has the contractual rights not the FFA. The FFA have the rights to AAMI.

The stadium operators would have made the call last October - either accept the AFL's definite booking with a likely crowd around 20,000; or hold out for a possible A-League grand final with a potential 50,000 but the significant risk of ending up with nothing.
Maybe conservative, but they took the AFL's booking that guaranteed them a game. The call was made in October, and once locked in couldn't be changed. The A-League only knew for certain they'd need a ground in Melbourne last Friday night; and by then the AFL had already sold tickets, memberships & corporate packages.

Stadium operators took the booking that was confirmed. FFA either should've booked it in correctly, or when they changed their mind on the schedule, compensated the AFL move. It's pretty simple stuff.

And the stadium owners said, to the surprise of nobody (except the FFA/soccer fans it seems) "We're going to continue to honour the contract that gives us the vast majority of our annual income".

The people who were whining that the AFL is the antichrist spawn of Satan because the A-League had to be played at AAMI Park might be better off going onto the Ticketek site - because the A-League Grand Final is not sold out.

I wasn't going to say it lol. Seriously hilarious that they can't sell out a venue like that. Imagine the AFL GF being played at Ethiad and not selling out? Just lol.

It will probably will sell out, but it's now 3.30pm and tickets are still available. Members of the two competing teams and somewhat interested non-member fans have had ample opportunity to buy tickets.

So much for Victory's private owner chairman and his snide comments that fans who miss out can get tickets for the Dogs-Dockers "blockbuster".

I know it's unlikely, but I'd love for the doggies to outdraw the A-League GF (sold out or not).

I see the Victory President is still bitching and now wants the State government to build them another bigger stadium at the taxpayers cost
Well if they so big and successful as they keep banging on about then let the whingers PAY for it themselves. Not a good way to win over the bulk of the population who couldnt give a stuff about the soccer GF.
