Its true, defenders get a raw deal. I remember (reasonably) regularly polling votes in the comp fairest and best during my relatively brief senior career playing through the centre. Never got vast truckloads of it but my soft, outside, show-pony, sidestep-the-defender-and-carry-it-your-15 ways attracted the umps attention whilst more deserving players in the back half went unrecognised.
Ack, so long ago.
