Polled 20 votes to win it, three votes clear of North Ballarat's Liam Anthony. Scooped up consecutive BOGs in the last two rounds to come from the clouds to win.

Great stuff, Woody.

Demonstrates the depth at Hawthorn with Woody winning the JJ Liston Trophy and Sam Grimley winning the Frosty Miller medal (the VFL equivalent of the Coleman Medal).

Congrats to Woody! What a great effort after his knee injury. Hope he gets plenty of opportunities in the Seniors next year.

For reference Sam Mitchell also won his Liston Trophy in a similar amount of games (11 to Woody's 12). Not to detract from what Woodward has done though. It's an incredible effort from both of them. Both small, in and under clearance machines. Hopefully a sign of more of the same in his future.

I think it was the Frankston coach Goosey on the weekend on the ABC coverage who said Woody was a chance because he always stood out. Very similar fashion to Mitchell's win in 2001.

A family friend said he was disappointed on a few occasions during this year when others got a go before him. But Ratten in particular told him his time will come. He was super keen to play in the AFL but the coaches knew he would need a year of solid footy before he was ready for the AFL pace.

Well done Alex :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

He, Langford ,Anderson and even Whitecross will allow us so much flexibility next year to rest guys like Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne and Sewell (if he goes on).

Great Stuff. Can't wait till next year. He will be a gun. With some experience, can't wait to see him reach his full potential.
