Might as well fold. I don't know how this club will possibly function without Stone?!?

To be fair mate I dont think you understand how respected he was in the AFL

He made Jason Dunstall and built Tadgh Kennelly, look at the development of all the swans mids since he was coach there in 05

Kennedy, Jack, McVeigh, Bolton, Hannebury etc

So why did he retire? Had enough? Bad blood? We need details!

Spent a year working with Bail, McKenzie, Evans and Nicholson.

"I'm a coach, not a miracle worker godamnit. Oi vey!"

It's really not that big of a deal. Teams have won flags without him. If we're relying too heavily on one guy who's 60 or 70 years old, we're doing it wrong. Ultimately the players have to drive their own improvement, and the rest of the coaching staff will have learned enough from him during his brief tenure to keep up what he started.

For all we know this could have always been the plan. No need to launch into one of our Demons Depressive Spirals (DDS's) just yet....
Don't ruin DD's with your farcical anagrams!

Yeah, I'd say it was almost definitely flagged when he was recruited. Probably came to the Dees just to help Roosy for a year (and pick up some retiring cash), as well as help us set up a long-term development strategy.

No scandals here mate. I'm not sure how old he is - but he certainly one of the 'senior' people going around the AFL coaching staffs. Just ready for a break, and possibly retirement.

I suspect this news didn't come as a surprise to Roos or Jackson. The timing around Goodwins appointment and trade week seems pretty well planned.

Matthew Lloyd mentioning on AW he would like to get involved in specialist coaching

All diving jokes aside he was the best full forward since Lockett retired and if he was to do some one on one work with hogan regarding leading patterns it would help him immensely

So Hoges, it works like this. Take a mark, pick up some grass to see what way the winds blowin'. Go back take your shot. If you miss, walk around mouth agape pointing at people

Do it correctly roughly 960 times

Stuff Lloyd. Can we get Duck in to talk to him? The comparisons have already been made, Hogan clearly has the potential.

Nah I know mate , would be funny to see hogan go back for his first kick at a Closed etihad an throw grass into the air

Catching flies as well

Never seen someone with their gob open as much as Lloyd

Yeah, while Lloyd was a good forward he's thick as a plank. I'd rather someone with half the talent and twice as much brain power was coaching our players.

Leigh Brown?

Intelligence has nothing to do with coaching or skill
Chris Dawes is the smartest man on our list but he still hasnt learnt how to bend his elbows when taking a mark

Dermott Brereton would be considered smart by no one here but he has coached the GWS boys for a while now

I dont care if they get Doug Hawkins down for * sake as long as they stick to talking footy

Derm would be choice one for me. Great football brain with the ability to teach.

I think Carey has one of the best footy brains around. In a parallel universe he would have coached North to a flag. Not just a goal kicking player, amazing at every aspect and understood the game.
