I have a feeling Chris Dawes may end up being a huge positive for Melbourne. One of the few positive legacies left from Neeld. Can't pinpoint it, I think he could elevate his rep as a player and leader by the time his current contract is up/ I don't know, just saying.

I think he's already showing that. In all of the games he's played so far for us his workrate has been excellent and he's appeared very vocal and passionate on the field. Definitely plays like a leader.

Neelds biggest saving grace was the key position players he brought to the table. We had so few for so long, now we have a plethora.

We have potentially the best forward line and back line going into next year and beyond. With a preseason under the belt of Toumpas and Viney, our midfield may also be ok too!

To be fair to Bate, he's been screwed over by our poor development and um, I reckon given another year under a good coaching structure he could really realise his enormous potential?

I still remember hearing on the radio after Bate's first game Daniher saying he was a star in the making and would be a ten year player. He looked the goods early on as a big midfielder / flanker, but then due to our lack of tall forwards Bailey tried to turn him into a quasi full forward and he beefed himself up, worked briefly but from there his career was on a downward trajectory to oblivion. In retrospect it would've been nice if Neeld had just kicked him out when the Bulldogs wanted him, might've been the change he needed.
